Too little too late imo. The damage has already been done to his character and whatever gains he acquires during Piccolo's training probably won't even amount to what he had in mystic form.
Didn't Gohan's "mystic" stage release all his hidden potential that he will ever have?

It was all his dormant power he HAD and plus the beyond limit thing by old kaioshin

I think I will quite watching DBS... They make a lot of characters irrelevant... Goten/trunks/piccolo/Gotenks...

99 percent chance gohan stays this way... 1 percent chance his character is reinvented and makes a giant badass entrance into the tournament. If I were writing of course I'd do that and I'd have gohan unlocking some sort of God infused mystic form which surpasses goku and vegeta but I can not save you this time gohan fans.

Also that style saga is gone of this character has fused with God and surpassed everyone and is now the strongest. Oh wait now this person has trained in the time chamber and is the strongest. Oh wait now this person trained using a method of relaxing the body and conserving energy and is now the strongest. Hmm but is his son just as strong? Probably not. Oh wait he just unlocked ssj2 and is now the strongest.

They want it to be Goku and Vegeta show, you can't have character stronger than them. Ofc he lost Ultimate form.

It has to do with the fact that Gohan is stronger than both of them, but is unfairly nerfed and pushed aside. But we'll see...

I think his point is that Goku and Vegeta are the only relevant people from the old cast with the new guys, as usual, being above them because that's how DB works. Personally, if they can introduce a whole new bunch of characters from U6, they might as well have done the same for U7 with Goku & Vegeta acting as trainers instead of bringing the old people back to emphasize how useless they are.

Gohan's gotten the best deal out of all the Earth cast not named Goku & Vegeta: he's sitting this one out ergo we cannot possibly get reminded of how useless he is.

The tournament seems really throw-away. I'd rather they use something more worthwhile to display the results of his training.
