"Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
That's fair, and I guess I don't hate his stuff as much as I think it's "okay". As you said though, that's his job. If a meh Yashima episode leads to better stuff later in the arc, I'll take it.

Two Kakudō storyboards. That should be fun. Already saw some of the cool shots in the preview for his #31.
It seems like Katsusawa's got quite an angular style just judging by the preview. Wonder what the actual motion will be like.
Got a solid month ahead of us, it seems. Unreasonably excited for Toma's episode.

From the preview of 31 alone I hope that Katsusawa becomes a series regular.

I agree. The Doc wrote:Going into a Naoki Tate episode always feels like playing a game of Russian Roulette. A majority of his rounds are a pleasant relief, he can really pull some slick looking stuff out of the bag.. when he wants/can. However, we eventually hit a point sooner or later where we finally get the bullet, and my oh my is it unpleasant. So I'm uneasy about him handling what looks to be the beginning of the tourney. I at least feel guaranteed that while episode 32 may not look 100% pretty 100% of the time
Is the time scheduling for Super really that bad? Tate's animation was top notch throughout entire episodes when he worked on One Piece. His best looking episode from Super looks poor in comparison. His last episode started out okay with his own cuts but the episode deteriorated afterwards.
It's a shame really. I used to look forward to Tate's episodes but now we don't know what we're going to get.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
A lot of Tate Naoki's old One Piece episodes had pretty goo animators working on them, too. For Dragon Ball Super he's only ever worked with one good animator, Ootsuka Ken in Episode #5. Dragon Ball Super is running around working with multiple unnamed animators from sub-contracting studios just to get episodes finished in time. Things have changed a lot for the industry over the last handful of years, just as much is they have changed in comparison to the 1980s and 1990s.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
I am happy that we are getting mostly King Ryu written episodes so far in this arc. One writer saves time and helps keeps consistency(especially the interactions). What makes it better than he is a good writer too imo.
About Tate:
I am sure that his episode will look like episode #18 with slight improvements here and there. I dont expect to see a lot of action in this episode, maybe by the end of the episode.Which is sad really as he excels in animations action scenes.Anyways, I think it will be a decent episode.

No Shida or Yamamuro so far. Maybe later, I hope.Sodhi wrote:Updated:Spoiler:

Something really did happen behind the scenes. Hope they can pull it off.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Yamamuro can just jump in in any episode he wants to, even in episode 13 his name wasn't mentioned in the staff list until the episode aired. However he has to do anything before episode 35 as he will probably be busy doing the new ending after that, which will debut episode 39.FortuneSSJ wrote: No Shida or Yamamuro so far. If we are to believe this website then it would appear that King Ryuu is the series kousei (series composition/organization/head writer) for the Champa arc.Sodhi wrote:This says something about king ryu. Translations would be apprecjiated

If that's the case, then I'm extremely happy. He's Super's best writer by far.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
I vastly prefer his episodes, so this will be good news if true. It would be great if the drought of him from the Golden Freeza Arc means he had plenty of time to churn out scripts for the Champa Arc (it is looking a bit like that), because the less writers we have to cycle through, the more consistent the characters will be in personality.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
It certainly explains why he stopped writing during the Golden Freeza arc. For Disk Wars: Avengers he personally wrote the scripts for the first ten episodes. In fact, almost all of the staff for Disk Wars: Avengers work on Dragon Ball Super. The only major difference is that Komura Toshi'aki is not the series director, Chioka Kimitoshi is. Chioka did a handful of storyboard for Disk Wars: Avengers but Komura only did three. Now for Dragon Ball Super Chioka has done no storyboards while Komura Toshi'aki has done two and a half.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
I have a feeling that had something to do with Toriyama's comment about Dragon Ball Super. Ever since his words got out, they've picked better staff for the Champa arc. King Ryu became the head writer, (possibly got rid of Koyoma in the process) going by that website. We also have a guest animation supervisor for the next episode plus Toma Seizo.
Good animation rotation and one of Toei's best head writers, that could be a turn of events, no?

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
King Ryuu probably plans on writing most of the episodes himself at this rate. This is the only show he writes for so I bet he will have no trouble.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
I don't have any problems with him, only one of his episodes thus far has been bad (#12), while every other scriptwriter has had multiple bad episodes. Hopefully he can keep up with episode 11 standards of writing.

That's fantastic news. His episodes have been the best of Super so far, so it looks like were are in for a treat with the Champa arc.JulieYBM wrote:If we are to believe this website then it would appear that King Ryuu is the series kousei (series composition/organization/head writer) for the Champa arc.Sodhi wrote:This says something about king ryu.
