Why is the Goku/Vegeta(& maybe Beerus) rivalry a thing still

Post by shadd21 » Fri Feb 05, 2016 12:24 pm

First of all could someone move this to the Super section please, think you :)

With SSG Goku and Beerus' fight nearly destroying the universe, Beerus and Champa's clash nearly destroying both Uni 6 and Uni 7, combined with Whis and Vados' statement about destroyer gods clashing it seems that there's a risk to the universe whenever someone with god ki fights others with god ki, yet Goku and Vegeta's rivalry still seems to go on and with Toriyama mentioning that they could surpass Beerus at some point, saiyans clashing could risky. And then there's Beerus' statement in Super that he wants Goku and Vegeta to get strong enough to"Make good playmates for him" which implys that he's interested in fighting them again if they get stronger.

What i don't get is why all of them are so eager fight each other again when there's risk to the universe if they do?

All they care about is fighting regardless of the risks so it isn't anything new.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Goku and Vegata need to stay rivals to make their character interactions interesting in a way that fits the serie's action genre. It's a logical way to give them chemistry.
Favorite Movies: Alien, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Thing, Evil Dead, The Land Before Time
Favorite Shows: Cardcaptor Sakura, Doctor Who, Wallace and Gromit, Wakfu, Yu Yu Hakusho
Favorite Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball

Because they're all easily bored, selfish individuals who get no enjoyment from anything that doesn't involve ramming their fists into people's bodies?
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Why do people think the universe thing will ever be relevant in fights again? SSB Goku and SSB Vegeta just fought Golden Freeza and not an single thing was destroyed bedsides an planet.

Also removing the Goku and Vegeta rivalry from DB would be like removing the Jedi and Sith rivalry from Star Wars. It's something you just do not do.

Yep. And that's what makes the dynamic of their relationship so interesting.

Because they are capable of such feats. Not seeing universal shattering every time does not magically take away from them.
Besides Goku and Vegeta's rivalry is always a highlight of the show.

I agree for Goku and Beerus but Vegeta's whole obsession with being the best got old 20 something years ago, him returning to that full force is more obnoxious than anything. Like he isn't allowed to have any sense of self-improvement to keep on training unless its precisely to beat Goku.

I didn't see the original fight with Beerus in Super so maybe I'm wrong but I've always taken it not to neccesarily be about raw power (first form Freeza could destroy a planet with ease after all) but more about controlling that power. Beerus probably worries less about controlling his destructive power in fights because destroying things is what he does for a living.

You should watch it, its 5 episodes long (10,11,12,13,14) and by far the best fight in Super so far.

It isn't. Goku wasn't concerned by Freezer's death ball until he threw it on Namek itself. That power was surely not enough to do any real damage to Goku but it was enough to destroy the planet.

Vegeta's rivalry with goku is an important thing, its what keeps vegeta going,he doesnt want goku leaving him in the dust so he constantly trains. While goku doesnt really see vegeta as a rival.

Also beerus doesnt see them as rivals to himself,he views them as playthings, something to relieve him of boredom and have a little fun.

Plus seeing vegeta and goku interactions is fun,and beerus also, him running after them in the forest was amusing lol.

As for the universe thing, its fiction inconsistency etc.Nothing uncommon in DB universe or any other fictional verse,so dont worry.

It's an ongoing arrangement because the characters in question are popular and familiar enough with audiences to warrant their prolonged involvement. That's the only plausible explanation for Vegeta lapping up more screen time than Tenshinan or Piccolo ever did. Both characters also happened to share a similar commitment to fights, yet we don't hear much about them upturning every nook and cranny they can find for a source of power that would allow them to keep pace with Goku. The title of "deuteragonist" should have transitioned to a new successor by now.

From a personal standpoint, I couldn't care less about what happens to Vegeta. His only worth in my eyes is being the only relevant fighter left past Goku. I would sooner hope for Piccolo or Gohan to achieve something than wish for more Goku and Vegeta shenanigans.
