Are you satisfied with the way DBZ ended?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Are you satisfied with the way DBZ ended?

Post by JAPPO » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:51 pm

Don't know if this has been made before.

My question is, are you satisfied that DBZ ended as a kind of "to be continued" episode to Dragonball GT (a series that should have never been made)?

I think it should have ended when Kidbuu was killed and at the very end of that episode we see Uub in his village (but Goku never meets him).

In a way I am, and in a way I'm not. I'm really not sour anymore at all about the way Boo was defeated and it's perfectly fitting that the people who the Z fighters had been saving all along finally saved themselves. It wasn't even just Gokuh since Vegeta's planning and even the dragonballs contributed to it, so no issues there. Even with the whole tournament thing, it was nice for Dragonball to come full circle and for Gokuh to finally become a master with a student of his own. When I first saw it I felt like Gokuh was being a selfish jerk and that this was a bad note to end on, but eventually I got to thinking that it was just Gokuh getting his reward for all those years of having to fight to protect the world, and being able to just train for fun again. All in all, I'd say the ideas were good but the presentation could have been worked on. I don't appreciate the very deliberate open ended-ness of it just for the sake of GT.

No. It should have ended with Super Saiyan Goku killing Freeza and then dying himself in the explosion of Namek.

That would have been sweet -- alas, it would have never happened.

It COULD of happened, it was intended to end at the Freeza arc from what I recall.

It should have ended with Gohan killing Cell, and having some sort of big party celebrating that the earth was safe for good. It would show everybody celebrating, and have Goku and Grandpa Gohans Ghosts' overlooking the party with that "Star Wars" feel.

I've got other ideas, this is just one of em'

Ideally would have ended with Freeza, but everything onward sans GT was an interesting and exciting foray into what would've happened after. I mean, imagine a world with no Goten, Trunks, Adult Gohan, fusions, levels beyond Super Saiyan, a good Vegeta...it's not as much fun. No, I agree with Mr. Announcer: it should have ended with Buu, but with more closure.

I would like it to end with the Cell Saga, the second attempt to end the series. But the full DBZ circle is good too.

Another Idea from Big Momma:

It is at the tournement after Kid Boo is defeated, and eveyone is waiting for their fight. Goku and Uub are in the middle of their fight when "BOOM"! They look over and see a Majin Furiza/Cell. The Z Senshi stand up, Goten and Trunks Fuse, Everyone powers up, and they all blast towards the Dynamic Duo. Furiza looks over, sees them all, and says "Oh Crap."

*Screen shows all Z Senshi about to beat down, camera blurs, then fades to the words "The End"*

Yeah, I know it, my idea pwns.

I'd be more inclined to agree if the whole "the villains come bak strongur then evur!!!!111oneoneone" idea wasn't already beaten so badly to death thanks to some fanfiction and movie writers... e_e

I'm not really that picky about where Toriyama finally decided to end DBZ. Actually, the Buu arc is one of my favorites, if nothing else than for all the huge goof-ups that all the characters make... xD;;

Yeah, and I don't know how Cell or Freeza would come back or be stronger. Half of Cell's awesomeness was the way he handled himself when he had such overwhelming power over the other characters. So having him scurry around as a weakling won't really bring back the same "feel."

You don't want to *end* things on the biggest battle ever. The fights are what get people to actually watch the show. You want the final chapter to a particularly long series such as this one to be done peacefully; make it something that makes you think about the journey as a whole. I kinda liked how GT ended in that respect, because it brought you all the way back to Dragonball when Goku was just a kid, where the whole story began.

Good idea, bad execution.

I still don't understand what happened with him at the end.

If you wish it ended earlier, then just don't watch it past that point. :P

Anyway, Dragon Ball Z was pretty open ended, but at the same time, it was fairly suiting. Overall, though, I appreciate the ending that GT offered to the franchise.

I enjoyed the ending ten-fold more when Toriyama redid it for the Kanzenban volumes and added the part with Uub getting Kinto'un.

Dunno if that'll show since it's linked from the main site, but it's a great way to end the series IMHO. Too bad Toei didn't come up with it.

Yeah, I agree. I think the redone ending was a good improvement.

I agree with you completely on that Corey. Though I would've also liked Grandpa Gohan to look down on Goku from the heavens and comment on his life and such. That would've been pretty sweet.

That would have been awful. Think about it. Gohan's character development, all down the drain. Ending it after the Cell Games would have been absolutely PERFECT. Goku died, Gohan is SSJ2. It all comes full circle. Everyone knew that Gohan had this hidden potential that, once unleashed, would be unstoppable. If the series ended there, it would have been awesome.

The SSJ Goku dying on Namek with Freeza would have been great if DB/DBZ wasn't split, and there wasn't the character development of Gohan.

Look at who you're talking to, he isn't exactly the biggest Gohan fan. Hell, he laughed maniacally at my fanboy sorrow over his death. Rocketman shows no mercy for Gohan, but would beg for mercy after a visit from Chichi. :P
