The Lecherous Muten Roshi wrote:You know, I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but thanks to the cropping, I'm really probably going to not get any of these sets beyond the first two.

And I'm only getting these first ones because it's the only way I can get all the episodes. Aside from those, I'll just complete my collection with FUNi's previous releases, assuming they're still in production. Then again, that'd be pretty inconsistend, and the remastering sure is nice.

Also, at a point I was hoping for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT to get sets like these, but now I don't think I really care. Maybe if they do get releases like this, I'll complete my collection in this form, for the sake of consistency. Maybe. It really depends on what kind of impression this first one makes on me.

Gah, I don't know. -_- I like consistency, so I'd like to have everything in the same format. Then again, I can't be certain that it's even going to happen. And the cropping is a pain in the butt.

Bah! The more I think of it, the more it disturbs me. Would it have killed them to make it fullscreen? To really make it the way it was meant to be seen? This sucks. I'm ranting pointlessly.

They call this set "perfect". Almost. Not quite, but almost. That's what really grinds my grapes. It's so damn close to being perfect, but just has one glaring flaw.

This makes me wish I had a big widescreen TV. It is truely indicative of the fact that soon enough everything will be widescreen.

FUNimation sure has a way of screwing over their customers. I was buying all the Ultimate Uncuts up until they stopped. And they stopped with no explanation whatsoever. And this is what we get??

I think I'm just going to be getting the first boxset at least, see if I like it, and if so, see what happens with the other two series of the trilogy.

Although, in their defense, a boxset with all the movies widescreen remastered should be quite nice. At least there can't really be any complaints about that.
I like consistency as well :)

They didn't make it fullscreen because A) The film was damaged and B) They are too cheap to repair it.

I understand the glue issue, but how the heck much glue was there?

How much would they have had to zoom in? :?

DUB WITH JAPANESE BGM

This is my 3rd time asking and I'm sorry about that. I am just so freaking curious and it's getting the best of me.

Many many thanks go to the people who have this DVD who are taking time off watching it to post images and comparisons. Thanks for putting up with a legion of demanding demanders (me included)

One guy said he worked at a movie store.

Others have claimed pre-ordering from FUNimation has gotten their sets early.

And, yes, I agree for the 3rd time. I REALLY WANT a clip! ANY!

Weelll... the easiest way to do that would be to get a fatpack from these dudes.

http://www.sleevetown.com/multi-dvd-case.shtml

They got a 6 discs case for a buck (with shipping though... i don't know how much), and if you guys not in favor of the overlapping, and the flimsy digipak, you can get this, make your own cover, and it will look as good as new... or something.
I really don't see how that's any better. The overlapping's still there for four of the discs. The only plus side I could see is that someone who really didn't like the cover for this season set could just print or draw something to serve as alternative cover art. And there's no place to put the booklet, either (unless you would rather just throw that away >.>).

Really, the only problem I have with digipak cases is that the CD hubs don't always hold onto the discs... which, honestly, is bad if you're not careful with how you handle the box. Other than that, they seem fine... o__o;
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

For all we know, the glue damage only affected a tiny minority of shots, and they chose such a shot for their misleading Kaio/Gregory comparison in order to make it more misleading.

The only explanation that we have been explicitly given is that they decided on widescreen because it looks "more cinematic."

Look closer... it looks like they over lap, but each disc on the extra "pages" are on the opposite side.

As for the booklet, I say tuck it into the front of the label slip, or just leave it in the old case... it's not that important, I think.

People are talking about a replacement package/cover, so this seems like a good time to show this work-in-progress I've been putting together in Photoshop:

Image

Nothing can compare with the packaging FUNimation used for the original DB DVDs.

Now I return to the shadows from whence I came, perhaps never to be seen again.

That is one snazzy cover. I tip my hat to you.

You wouldn't mind PMing me the full size version, would you?

Who knows. I guess just for the people who wanted to know what the deal was with the box. For people who don't know what a Gate Fold is.

Oh, okay. I've had a second look; I see how they're positioned now. My bad.

Wow, that's really nifty! The design you put together looks excellent. I have to point out, though, there's a typo in the second-to-last line in the box summary. It should read, "the most powerful opponent he has ever faced awaits." Fix that small mistake and you're golden. :D

Clearly nobody has them yet. If I did, I'd gladly make a clip. You may just have to wait until February.

SelMod, great job. I'm assuming that's for an individual sleeve...or the whole thing?

I say, stretch the spine, and slam that in the fat-pak, and you just outdid FUNimation's entire re-releases of the Season Sets.

But that just might be my DVD cover making fangasms talking.

SelMod, that is one awesome design. Might I suggest slightly altering it so it would fit right over each side of FUNi's box? I was beginning work on my own custom cover, but my Photoshopping is well... meh.

Woah. I just noticed that the Piccolo image has been reflected. Any reason for that? Also, the Raditz, Vegeta, and Nappa images look disgustingly awesome. I'm guessing they're art from past video game images (I really wouldn't know).

Anyways, if you're willing to alter your cover to be able to cover each side of the FUNi box (if someone could please put up the box's dimensions?) that would be great. Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums. :D

Sorry if that was a bit off topic...
