Truth is, ep 5 almost killed the whole series. Uni 6 arc hasn't been able to recuperate that lost fandom yet, but let's hope the fights in the coming episodes are REALLY good. Only that way people are gonna regain interest in the series.
But the amount of people watching the series overall outside of japan has decreased dramatically after episode 5.
But it is also true that some people are watching it again after the Uni 6 arc began. The retelling also afected the interest people had in the series. The ratings will only go up from here, but if they fuck up again, that won't happen. It only took 1 episode to almost destroy the reputation of the whole series (ep 5).

Seriously going to think about writing in-depth animation guide in hoping it will help those who are ignorant understand clearly how the animation industry works.

First and foremost, where do you get this data? A strawpoll voting? A random poll that has a small sample that doesn´t represent the whole fanbase from any random anime pages?Hit!! wrote: Ratings in japanese television, true.

This seens more like an asumption of yours rather than a straight cold fact.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Not to mention the fact that it has absolutely no impact on the show.Neo-Makaiōshin wrote:First and foremost, where do you get this data? A strawpoll voting? I really hope Tate is given a full episode later in the tournament with a good amount of time and animators working under him. An episode in the early 40s would probably be good since that would be plenty of time since episode 32 and it will likely be near the end of the tournament.Lord Beerus wrote:Far from it. Yeah. Since we probably won't ever get a scenario where Tate can spend two or three months on an episode doing upwards of a hundred action cuts himself the next best scenario would be giving him other good animators to work with so that those drawings won't go to waste. Naruto is often good about this.ArchedThunder wrote: I really hope Tate is given a full episode later in the tournament with a good amount of time and animators working under him. I can understand why Tate isn't everyone's cup of tea. His style is very 'un-Dragonball', and whilst his cuts can be fluid and kinetically exciting, they can be a little anatomically awkward, detail-poor and 'cartoony'.
I think it's a good example of one the biggest issues that people are finding with Super - it lacks the level of aesthetic cohesion that many were used to in 'Dragonball Z'. I think a lot of fans struggle to make that distinction, and thus, unfortunately, express it as 'bad animation'.
Case in point: if the above Tate cuts appeared in One Piece, where his style is perhaps more at home, nobody would bat an eyelid.

I definitely think some of Tate's less action parts like some of the faces were a somewhat blegh in the latest episode. Episode 11 is his best work for Super thus far imo.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

That actually makes sense. I do agree that it isn't something that's been used in DB, but I actually like how different it is, especially when Tate is at his best, which is unfortunately not as much as I'd like in Super due to scheduling and lack of help.Blade wrote:I can understand why Tate isn't everyone's cup of tea. Tate got flack from One Piece fans all the time andhos work on Dragon Ball Super has been relatively tame in comparison.

B-But they're so good?! Maybe it's because I love Hosoda's One Piece film best and Tate pretty much decided that was going to be his thing after it. I mean, I haven't seen the 6th One Piece movie but I just don't really like the look of Tate's cuts but I'd by lying if I said that the animation wasn't pretty damn fluid. But then again, I'm not a fan of Eisaku Inoue's cuts on One Piece either.Ajay wrote:B-But they're so good?! He's a talented man but I'm just not a fan of his designs for the characters personally, I'm more of a Masayuki Sato or Kazuya Hisada kind of guy along with Katsumi Ishizuka.Ajay wrote:Aw man, our tastes are complete opposites. I love Inoue so damn much.

The only problem I have is with the deformation of the bodies in movement. But overall he animates really really good.

I've seen a lot less of criticism of his work on One Piece. I mean, especially when animating Luffy - who is a rubber man, Tate's loose-limbed, wobbly cuts are right at home. That's not to say that it's an aesthetic style that has no place in Dragonball - I'm sure his touch would be perfect for Majin Buu, for example - because it is just that, a conscious stylistic approach, because If you look at some of his old work back on Dragonball Z, it's clear that he can animate fluidly without sacrificing detail and introducing all of the jelly-formism.JulieYBM wrote:Tate got flack from One Piece fans all the time andhos work on Dragon Ball Super has been relatively tame in comparison.
I think the biggest pity is that for a lot of people, he's going to go down in the annals of Dragonball history as the episode five guy.
