So, according to this article, Sumitomo's a Dragon Ball fan? I'm very surprised....

I appreciate how Riko treats Freeza the same way she would a mischievous neighborhood kid instead of a galactic space tyrant.
And then Freeza turns around and treats her like she's his daughter or something.

So do we think Sumitomo got better or like what's the general thought on him these days. Cause I'm starting to actually notice the tracks instead of finding them bland as hell
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The OST has some nice tracks, like the ones used in the last episode when they first met the Super Dragon Balls, or Goku and Botamo entered the arena at the end. Or the SSG ritual one. I think that, overall, his work is better than in the movies, it's just that the bland tracks play more often.garfield15 wrote:So do we think Sumitomo got better or like what's the general thought on him these days. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Some are more tolerable than others, but I find myself completely unimpressed every moment that the soundtrack is playing, whenever I'm watching the anime.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Sumitomo's work for Super hasn't been terribly good in my opinion, which is a shame because I thought I was going to really like him after Battle of Gods. We've gotten some interesting tracks in recent episodes, which is nice.
The OST has a few good ones:
But also a lot of really bad ones:
I think the few tracks that were actually in the U6 episodes were a bit of an improvement overall from some of the past stuff, and I hope Sumitomo does continue to improve, but the majority of his work for Super is admittedly bland.

His work in Kai Buu arc was really terrible (still better than Yamamoto though), and ROF Movie was not much better either.
In other hand, his work in BOG Movie was great and he's doing a good job in Super too.
But overall his work is not memorable and something that I have interest to listen often.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I said this in another thread about Sumitomo's work and I'll say it again almost for verbatim:
Someone in Toei really needs to have word in Sumitomo's ear and tell him to focus solely on full orchestral pieces, where he seems to truly shine, as supposed to instead of wasting energy on all the synthesized shit he puts together. I was reminded one too many times of Crash Bandicoot listening to some of his tracks in soundtrack for Super. And while I love Crash Bandicoot, I don't want its type of music anywhere near Dragon Ball in any remote sense.

Fucking hell, those are just horrible. It's like he was told just to throw a couple of beats together in a couple of hours and be done with it.Wezenheim wrote:Sumitomo's work for Super hasn't been terribly good in my opinion, which is a shame because I thought I was going to really like him after Battle of Gods. I think this post only tells about your taste of music. I find pretty much all of these pieces of OST enjoyable in their own way, although I agree some of them might be bit overused and/or placed in wrong scenes of the show.Wezenheim wrote:Sumitomo's work for Super hasn't been terribly good in my opinion, which is a shame because I thought I was going to really like him after Battle of Gods.
