Any Non-Fighting DB Games?

Post by Maker777 » Sat Jan 20, 2007 9:04 pm

Are not a mashy fighting game? (Like Dragonball Z 1,2 and 3, SPARKING!/Neo) And are an adventure 3rd person view walk around and bash people. I know about the Gameboy games but are there any on XBox, GameCube or PS2?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

DBZ Sagas would be your cup of tea, Maker. It fits the description of the kind of game you want and is the only DBZ game to be on all three major consoles. Also, it's the last GameCube DBZ game after Budokai 2 and the only X-Box DBZ game.

Fair warning, so far it's only available for North American audiences only, however you could import it.

Sagas is pretty much the only one I can think of.

We need another. Although the first one has some serious defects, I found it to be fun for the first few levels. And I wouldn't be opposed to purchasing a sequel.

Sagas had a few glitches here and there, and I felt that it was too short and needed more levels. I mean, it skips from Goku versus Freeza to Goku versus the Androids, for example.

I don't want a sequel, cause otherwise we'd have Avalanche working at the helms. I'd much prefer Dimps make a 3rd Person Free Roaming Adventure game. They proved they can make solid adventure game on the GBA & I could imagine how it would be in 3-D.

They didn't go straight to Goku's encounter with the Androids, we did get an original story level on Yardrat and a couple levels circling around History of Trunks. If anything, while not executed nearly as awesome as it could've been, Sagas introduced elements many of fans have wanted to see that the other Ps2 games just don't wanna do; make original characters and delve into different story environments (we didn't get "History/Future of Trunks" in any other Ps2 game till BT2/NEO). Not to mention using footage from the actual anime for its cut-scenes.

Hishouden and Gekitouden, for the original Gameboy, are great games. The fighting gameplay is one of the most original I've ever experienced. I was addicted to them for months. Both are extremely fun once you get a feel for the gameplay. You should also consider picking up both of the Gokudens for the Super Famicom if you wanna try something different.

I recommend these four the most.

By the way, Sagas sucks. It sucks badly. It sucks dragonballs. Stay away from it.

They could actually take the engine they already have (the Budokai one) and just modify it a bit (change the axis points to allow for free roaming movement, etc) and it work perfectly fine, plus they wouldn't have to start from scratch, and would have something that already has a lot of (great) content and mechanics.

Well, DIMPS did try using their fighting engine for several 3D scrolling beat'm up bonus levels in Saint Seiya - Chapter Sanctuary (which on his own is somewhat based on Budokai (1)).

That was _not_ a great succes, bad movement and angles :s

They did make even better CG movies voor Saint Seiya than for Budokai =3

Uh, no matter how you look at it, DBZ is about fighting, it'd be hard not to make a a fighting game.

Well there's always Dragon Ball, I don't think it's being exclusive to the latter arcs.

You can't take the fighting out of DBZ, but you can take the focus away from the fighting and put it on the story, characters, or other things.

I recall someone posting a suggestion a while back on another thread about something similar to LoZ, where you control Chibi Goku, travel the world and use Nyoui Bo...
DB, in particular, lends itself to adventure Vs beat up everything in your path.
But eh, the Legacy of Goku series and the sequels that dropped the title have some good elements, and if someone... ur... who had a better idea of what people actually like reapplied them to a console game, it could turn out great.

And even with the fighting elements, can't we vary those a bit? I think Super DBZ delved into it a little... *is very tempted to plug RPG notes*

Advance Adventure needs my attention. :).

Sagas... good concepts, terrible terrible programming. Like, glitches that resemble those I make in my text/audio games. Of course I notice them and then try to fix them... I seriously have to wonder if they test played Sagas at all before putting it on shelves.

Free-roming RPG... teams of allies (not necessarily fighters! Bulma? Oolong?), and... go around and do stuff! There's ... a lot of potential there, isn't there? And there are a lot of things to fill in; character stuff, ... *stabs things that interrupt the completion of post*.

The Legend of the Super Saiyajin was a fairly decent RPG, aside from the ridiculous amount of leveling you had to do...
