If you're dead-set on doing a pointless online petition (sorry, reality of the matter), please take it outside this thread. Thank you.

Umm...No one is forcing you to buy these new DVDs. I don't know, I find it pretty cheap to get 40 episodes for 30-50 dollars.
If you don't want to see the widescreen version, just don't get it. Buy the Dragonboxs or something.
Pshh.

While I agree with the petition and would sign it, no amount of signatures would dissuade FUNI when the Z-Store posts the quantity they have available for pre-order and it goes down every day (even though its already out for some).Daizensushi-x wrote:Umm...No one is forcing you to buy these new DVDs. The only way to get it thru to their heads is to NOT buy it. But, the reality of it was posted above. The price point is too good for episodes that were never released at all in the States (at least, not he uncut versions). Personally, I'll get the first 2 sets (and maybe the third) and that will be it. I want them for the good subtitles, but afterwards there is nothing they can offer me I want. My money will go toward the DB/DBZ singles (and probably the GT singles someday).
If they ever decided to redo it, it would be after the third boxset... at least, I'll predict that is when they see the sales fall off. But at that point, I'll have gotten into the DragonBox singles and I'll just rip them to my harddrive and rip the subtitles from Funi discs to watch them all on my PC like how we REALLY want them.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
DB DBox color corrections & DBox color corrections.

Once again, I think the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" opinion would be fine if not for the fact that a hunk of episodes are not available in North America otherwise.Daizensushi-x wrote:Umm...No one is forcing you to buy these new DVDs. As I said, if they finished the Ultimate Uncuts, it wouldn't be a problem. People could get the episodes in the original fullscreen or widescreen remastered. Now there's not much of a choice.
Of course, if I could get the DragonBoxes, I would. Unfortunately, that's clearly not an option for me and many others.

Working with such issues in the past, I can tell you that online petitions do nothing. Tangible products are much more valuable than intangible products, and multiple tangible products are much more valuable than single tangible products.BrollysKin wrote:So then in your opinion, what should be done?VegettoEX wrote:If you're dead-set on doing a pointless online petition (sorry, reality of the matter), please take it outside this thread. Seriously. Take a look at your arguments:
Widescreen Ruins the Show
I, myself, was a big skeptic and considered not purchasing the set. Now that I've seen episodes in motion, it's not as huge as a problem as it has been made out to be. At first it bothered me because I was specifically looking for shots that would look bad cropped, but you completely forget about it after a while. Sure I'd prefer a full screen option, but if this is the format we're given it in, I'm still happy.
Colors are Way Off
Regardless of how "off" the colors are, 99% of those purchasing this set (myself included) don't notice. What I *do* notice is that everything appears brighter and more distinct. The old episodes as I knew them before have really come to life. Lines are sharper. It's really a step up. Dragon Box? Again, 99% of those purchasing it don't even know what the Dragon Box is.
Packaging Sucks
It's really not that bad in person, and having two disks stacked on top of each other per page is a practice that MANY TV shows use in their releases. Seriously, if you find time to bi**h about this, then should we really be worried?
Now let's talk about what makes this set work:
- Price: Online you can find it between $20 and $50, I ordered mine from the Z Store for $34.99. This is leagues cheaper that what we're used to.
- All-inclusive set: All 39 episodes of Season One in one box without having to have nearly 10 DVD cases on your shelf? Count me in!
- Quality of the film and audio: videophiles and naysayers may not like it, but it's the best it's been in any FUNI release.
- 3 audio tracks. Everyone who hates the DUB music have been silenced.
- Consistency of releases. Eventually we'll have all 291 episodes in these sets. It'll all be uncut, the dialogue is re-recorded, and we have the same voice actors the whole way through (Chris Sabat does Vegeta, for example, instead of the Ocean actor in the Vegeta Saga). While I prefer the Ocean Dub group in many ways, at least we'll have one set of VAs the whole way through.

As much as I think online petitions are pointless, I signed the new one as well... I wouldn't put it past FUNi to release a fullscreen version dow the road, since they obviously like milking money from fans (Fullmetal Alchemist movie", anyone?).
I see them release 3/4 of the series, and having sold tons of sets since most people decided to give in and settle for the widescreen version and then releasing it fullscreen. Just to screw us over, like they did with the Ultimate Uncuts.

The same way the whole series came out consistently on VHS the first time?BlueSunrise wrote:Eventually we'll have all 291 episodes in these sets.
Or the same way the whole series came out consistently on DVD the first time?
Or the same way the Ultimate Uncut Edition came out consistently on DVD to finish it off?
FUNimation's promises, ne... overall business plan... mean absolutely nothing to an American DBZ fan. Nothing against what your pros are... but just sayin'.

You've managed to make a post that I myself was too lazy to write. Thank you.BlueSunrise wrote:Seriously. Take a look at your arguments:

How much was the saiyan saga before? 99.99? something like that.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
