Playing PS1 Imports

Post by Leotaku » Mon Jan 29, 2007 3:27 pm

Hey,
I have a friend who just picked up a Japanese DragonBall Z Legends for PS1, but she only has a North American PS1. Other than modding the console (which she doesn't want to do), is there some other way to play the game on it?

I think this podcast will help. There are methods besides moding the system. My brother used this Game-Shark add-on and it worked the same way the Game Genie did I suppose. Anyway, the machine allowed us to play Legends in our american ps1. Hope that helps..!

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Is she trying to play it on a PS, PS2 or PS3? That helps even more! ;)

If it were on a PS3, wouldn't it just play anyways? Or do I have my PS3 facts jargled up? :?

But the best way to play it on a PSone (not the fat grey one, but it'll work for it too.) is THIS.

PS3 is pretty ghey. It has no region restrictions for the PS3 games, but it is Region locked for Ps1/2. I suggest that you buy a PS3 from Play-Asia out of Japan. I assume that by now many people here have an American PS2. Japanese PS1/2 and Region Free PS3 FTW!

Even though PS3 is really sucking balls so far...

That's probably what I'll end up doing when the time comes. My Japanese PS2 games out number my American one 3 to 1! And awesome find Nathan, that would be the obvious way to go. Boot discs are the best way to play imports.

Yes they are. I've tryed modding (solderless model for dummies) and it went no where...

So either get a boot disc for uber cheap, or go get it modded profesionally for the price of importing a japanese ps2

I'll definitely have to get an import PS3 then. Where is the best place to get one?

That would be at http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bo- ... 0-p62.html The 20 gig one is also available for 100 bucks less, in case you only want it for playing games and really don't care for the extras. Hurry, Sony might close down Play-Asia, like they did to Lik-Sang.

Well, Sony sued Lik-Sang's ass to eternity because...they sold their systems to Europe. It seems like Play-Asia is getting away with it, and as long as they are not caught/sued until the Europe release in March, all is good.

OFF-TOPIC: It was because Lik-Sang sold Japanese PSP's to Sony executives in Europe. Thus the getting caught part...

I mentioned that she only had a North American PS1.
Thanks for the help, everyone. Appreciate it. :)

Nathan, have you ordered from there (that Modchip Store) before? It's a reliable site, right?

I wish I could say I have, but I haven't...

But it IS like the only place I've seen that boot disc for under 30 bux. So I say it's at least worth a try.

And when the handleports in the ps1 die... do you get a japanese ps2 (Ur... that's what I got from the podcast)? *imagines that an emulator with region2 bios would be legal under these circumstances... doesn't want to get one* *thwacks this computer for not letting the pressing of more than two buttons at a time, thereby making gaming a pain*.

I worry that my copy of Legends might be damaged beyond usability, as it was freezing a lot just before the handleports went out. Are the ps1 titles pretty much EBay'd now?

Anyone ever used the Action Replays before? I used to use that on my PSone to play my imports. But then I sold it to a friend, who was trying to do the same thing, and I went and bought this little devide called the "Goldfinger". It works just like the Action Replays, but I found it to be a little better. It works as a Gameshark too. Anyway, I've been using it to play my PSone import for the past 8 years. It works like a charm.

I used to have a Goldfinger. But those don't work on the PSone models of the Playstation because it lacks that adapter slot.

True. That is why I use it on my first model PSone, or PSX, or Playstation, or whatever you feel like calling it. :P
