So the Manga doesn't skip ahead? Oh thank you Jesus. Not only do I want the Manga to portray everything from this arc (and by the sounds of this, it has expectedly portrayed what happened better then its anime counterpart) but no spoilers mean I have reason to watch the anime.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
The fights were lacking in this chapter, which is a shame because all the tournament fights up until this chapter were well choreographed especially compared to the anime. It's a damn shame this manga is stuck as an abridged promotion for that shit anime.

They're probably just going to talk about Frost being evil next month anyways.
Your mileage may vary, the Goku fight was barely different and in my opinion the Piccolo fight was worse in the manga.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:So the Manga doesn't skip ahead? Oh thank you Jesus. So are Toyotaro and Toei working from the same script or not because the Piccolo vs Frost fight was completely different and Goku vs Frost fight much longer amd which one is the closest to Toriyama's script.

We have absolutely no idea and it's not the type of information they would normally share.namekiansaiyan wrote:So are Toyotaro and Toei working from the same script or not because the Piccolo vs Frost fight was completely different and Goku vs Frost fight much longer amd which one is the closest to Toriyama's script.
All we know is that Toriyama provided a story.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
It's clear that both Toei and Toyotaro are reading off the same hymn sheet, but I'm willing to wager that it's more a memo on the back of a napkin than an extensive set of directions. Beyond that, though, it's becoming increasingly clear that Toei and Shueisha aren't sharing assets that they are having to design themselves because Toriyama, presumably, hasn't provided them.
What I prefer most about Toyotaro's depiction is the look and feel of the nameless planet stadium. It's still not very Toriyama-like, but for me, the whole aesthetic is just less crummy than that which Toei came up with.
Reading this chapter, having already seen the corresponding anime episode, felt pretty weird. Just like the tone of the series is very un-Toriyama-esque, a little bit like some of the old Dragonball Z movies, the Manga also lacks the same charm, but instead reads like a doujinshi-take (unsurprisingly) on the same premise, running in parallel.
Ugh, what a mess.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I'm not herms but let me translate the chapter a bit
Champa-FROST YOU CHEATED! I'll DESTROY YOU!...Get it because I'm the god of destruction so we use the word destroy a lot! haha!
Vegeta-Not so fast!
Frost-huh?
Vegeta-The fans are hating Super so far, I think it's time for a little fan service to win back some of the fans >:)
Champa-I don't know....maybe we can just get a halfway decent animation team to work on Super.
Frost-That's my bad. I stung them with my poison before they started animating it. They don't have your strong bodies so they haven't gotten out of the haze yet.
Beerus-okay now I must destroy frost myself....because he's why I was given such a bad face in episode 5!
Champa-HA! He said destroy! Get it because we're the gods of destruction! Super has such great writing don't you think? huh? huh?-(blasted in the face by vegeta.)

I like both versions of the story, but it's interesting that U6 fighters aren't given any known incentives. Maybe Champa just bullied them.Ajay wrote:Thanks to TheDevilsCorpse, we now have a bit more info on Frost's portrayal.
So it seems that Frost isn't explicitly portrayed as outright evil. No mention of space pirates, secret schemes, or any such nonsense. Frost simply uses his needle to end the fights due to feeling threatened by his opponents. When confronted by Champa, he says that he was in a hurry to finish the matches due there being no prizes (money or otherwise). Only when the referee goes to check his needles do we get any hint of his nature; he says he should be glad he didn't kill him.
I vastly prefer this. It's far more subtle than the ridiculous Freeza 2.0 narrative they spun in the anime.
I wonder what's Toriyama's version of events.
Please don't attempt to translate if you aren't going to be sincere. There is enough misinformation spread around in the DB community.LSSJGODSSJ4Gogeta wrote:I'm not herms but let me translate the chapter a bit

I think after Vegeta has defeated frost, Champa will kill Frost for cheating

Well Vegeta broke the forth wall and other things happened so I think it was clear it was a joke.

While the anime made Piccolo look good the manga made Goku's fight a lot entertainig and cooler..... I dont know how to feel about this, big green needs some love.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I was hoping for new material, and expecting the Manga to go ahead of the Anime. Nothing we don't know came after a month of waiting.
The Goku vs Frost fight to me stole this chapter. Way longer than it should have been.
At this point, I'm not even upset as a Piccolo fan that his fight was so short. They shafted Big Green aside so many times now that I was honestly expecting it.

Goku vs frost fight was good but piccolo vs frost was a joke and didn't do justice to piccolo in the Manga so the Anime version of the piccolo fight was far better than the Manga, can't believe the Manga did a bad job in comparison to anime also I like how the Manga didn't spoil anything....

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Yeah this months chapter was completely pointless. No doubt.
I already had a bad feeling it wouldn't go past the anime material this month for some reason. Turns out my predictions were right.
Like i said no sense in rehashing the same material on a black and white paper.
If the manga doesn't move ahead of the anime soon it's gonna lose it's purpose.

SO everything in this chapter was as I predicted and expected. At Least people would stop saying that they would bet toei changed the script or something which made no sense but whatever. I am a bit disappointed in Piccolo's fight,he lost pretty quickly, at least in the anime he would have won and showed off so many different techniques.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Just read the chapter and this may be the most disappointing chapter so far. The anime version of Piccolo vs. Frost was way better. Piccolo outright jobbed in the manga version. But the manga version of the SSJ Goku vs. Piccolo was so much better than the what we got in the anime. Nothing really of worth in this chapter.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
This manga had a beter Goku vs Frost fight but worse Piccolo vs Frost fight. The only good thing about the Piccolo vs Frost fight was that it looked like Piccolo was using his fists.
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I feel like the manga was more consistent in power levels and story. Basically showed what a fight between Piccolo and someone with that level of power compared to Goku would actually look like. The anime seemed to make that fight larger than it logically should have been for the sake of fan service and selling toys...

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I hated the anime version of the Piccolo vs. Frost battle. The tournament has been set up from the beginning with the intention of being a sport (with some consequences), and yet Piccolo started right off the bat with an attack intended to pierce a hole through his opponents. Even if Freeza's shown to be able to survive in chunks, this completely rubs me the wrong way for what the tournament is supposed to be.
The manga is much, much better in my opinion. Despite having less time dedicated to it, Piccolo still puts the pressure on Frost and forces him to use the poison needle. As I said earlier when the Frost personality stuff was first translated, he only uses the needle when he feels threatened that he can't win on his own. So Piccolo would have defeated him without using a technique that had no purpose being in a tournament.

WTF?! Is that real? We'll have a weekly DBS manga? Damn! Now there is no argument that this series isn't canonTzigi wrote:The cover of the collected volume. More info here.Spoiler:
Not really, I'll be against majority in saying that I prefer Frost being evil, I mean he is not exactly like Freeza as Doctor. and many others have pointed, I just would like that he have more build and them finally reveal his true motivations.Ajay wrote:Thanks to TheDevilsCorpse, we now have a bit more info on Frost's portrayal.
