The worst part is when the inevitable HD version of these remasters are finally released, these things are going to be even that much more noticable....
That being said..... The set is only 30 dollars so, c'mon, how much effort can you really expect from them? These dvd packs are obviously just a last-minute cash-in before they start releasing these on HD formats (in 3 episode per shot, assumedly)

Hoh boy... kind of sad how they didn't fix those mistakes, especially considering that I could clean some of them up easily (except for maybe the second one with the tear--how'd they miss that? D: ) and JAPPO's proved he can as well. Seriously, it's not like those things are present on every frame; it can't be that hard to edit them out. D:
This aside, though, I'm still getting this set and hoping for the best. Maybe the next few sets will have less dirt and hair... something tells me they should have dusted those masters off when they got them back out of the vault.

Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

If it was just a cheap set that would be fine, but it is a cheap set that they apparently spent (or have suggested) they spent a ton of money on, and screwed up so many ways.
Wow, Funimation is really trying to make us hate them once again are they? These just prove that the "Rebirth" of DragonBallZ is a really bad one. I deem these sets, crap.
I feel sorry for Future Gohan.
Everyone's like, "What?! What are you doing with two arms?! You tear that off right now, mister!"

Lol'ed.

How many bailouts is this? Good grief...Duo, I actually expected you among everyone to carry on and give this a chance, but do what ya' will.Duo wrote:The clincher...I am finally convinced not to buy this set.
Also for the record, I won't be sending in any letters to FUNimation in request to the full-screen. It's not because I don't want to (I don't like the wide-screen anymore than the rest of you), it's just I don't wanna come off as a hypocrite. I still seriously intend to purchase each released set, no question.
One more thing, about the small dirt/specks/whatnot complaints. For cryin' out loud guys, these aren't Dragonbox remasters, stop expecting for these releases to live up to them. Yes, FUNi's remastering wasn't nearly as profound as they were making it out to be, but these releases still trump the previous R1 DVDs in terms of visual and audio quality. Accept that and keep in mind this release was never intending to live up to the Dragonbox, otherwise FUNi would've actually gone through the trouble to purchase those masters.
But eh, you guys complain about what you want. Rather it's the cropping issue or specks of dirt, hell I may as well be the only one here to buy all the releases FUNi distributes. So good luck to the rest of you.

Just so you know I agree with this entirely. The dirt isn't a big issue in the slightest.Conan the SSJ wrote:One more thing, about the small dirt/specks/whatnot complaints. I don't think anyone's comparing them to the Dragon Boxes on this issue. The fact that there's any of that shit left in the final footage is abysmal regardless of what set Japan has.
Even if you ignore the facts that they faultily advertised this as 1080p HD, and bragged about the "painstaking" frame-by-frame restoration, it's still stuff that is pretty minimalistic to fix considering all the time they spent painting bushes over people and the like years ago.

The dirt and other things wouldnt bother me as much if Funimation hadnt made all these claims. They were supposed to be spending all this time and money going "Frame by Frame" to get the best quality possible. As shown here some of the examples could have been taken care of in little to no time what-so-ever.
Come on inside....the Kame House.

So many threads like this in going on.. I’m surprised there isn’t a section strictly for FUNimation’s remastered set..
Well after seeing some of the pictures in this thread, I think it’s safe to say the word “remastered” has lost all meaning. From a business standpoint, FUNimation is brilliant. Why release a good product and get one big check when you can release “crappy” versions of that product again and again to make even more profit?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

FUNimation aren't really all that "brilliant" when it comes to business, either. They use pretty basic marketing skills. They could make hell of a lot more money if they actually respected their customers.Mr.Piccolo wrote:So many threads like this in going on.. They're more "lucky" than anything else.

The stuff isn't hard to spot when it happens often enough. Hell, even the Dragonbox DVDs still have dirt on them in a few places, but nothing like what has been shown.BlueSunrise wrote:But - there's really no pleasing anyone who singles out frames of video and looks for a hair or a speck, is there?
It basically does show that they are full of it and didn't even bother to watch it once before they put it out the door on issues like these.
No offense to JAPPO, but he corrected that image in how much time and with what equipment? And is he a professional? Is he supposed to know the advanced techniques for the removal? Or did he just use a tool in photoshop?
But the point is, it doesn't matter because he just bitch-slapped FUNI and did a better job than they did at a fraction of the cost (I"m assuming he didn't spend a million on the PC he's posting from). They should have just hired him to do the scratch removal and paid him $60,000 for the year and given him free DVDs and I bet he'd go for it.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

He's not the only one. I'm pretty sure anyone who has some experience digitally editing images on MS Paint could do a decent job cleaning up dirty frames like these. As far as this issue goes, I have to admit, FUNi has no excuse for letting this happen...ect5150 wrote:No offense to JAPPO, but he corrected that image in how much time and with what equipment?
