MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 3/16/26!)
Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 3/14/16
I find it more awkward that she still looks like a child here and like a fully grown adult only three years later. Yeah, I know it's the same for Goku, but he has the retroactive excuse of being an alien. Chichi, not so much... and she looks way more like a child than Goku ever did, to me.

I loved "Pull Piccolo corpse out of closet, and say Oolong killed him" As for that Yamucha scene, i think it gets some flack, because we see Yamucha fight, and he last even longer than Kuririn, who was killed with one blow. As for snow and #8 never interact with Goku again after RRA, you could argue, they had small cameo at Genki-dama scene where they, as well as Elder, recognize Goku voice.

I actually see that Yamcha fight as one of the most disliked additions to the TV series, but not for the reasons you pointed out, which I agree with you on.

So I am about to watch this part where the thumbnail has a blindfolded Popo chasing Goku. Meanwhile a thunderstorm is occurring while I am about to watch. Well that's fucking ominous...
*EDIT*
Was hoping the Daimao, Goku, Mutaito paradox was addressed, but I know why it wasn't as stated in the very first dissection video. Though I don't get why Tenshinhan couldn't just pull a Roshi to stop the volcano. Though if he did, the episode wouldn't be as fun. I never did think much about the underwear drawer thing, I guess Dragon Ball's more silly demeanor made me miss that. I do really enjoy the anime version of this arc because it adds so much good stuff to the story. Though it's been too long since I seen Z filler, I don't remember if there was any good character z filler. Funny moments sure, but nothing I recall was on par with Dragon Ball's pretty well done filler.

Ooooh boy, the Freeza Arc dissection is coming, this one will surely piss off some fans.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Been a very long time since i watched anime arc of DB so i forgot a lot of things, that capsule in underwear drawer was indeed creepy
As for Tenshinhan not dying, well, Kami and Piccolo Jr. didn't die from performing Mafuba, maybe you don't die, if you are strong enough?

I think most of us predicted that the Freeza Arc would get the five, but I'm starting to wonder if Gaffer is going to throw a curveball at us and give it the three or even the one. Maybe I'm crazy, but I sort of get a certain vibe that he really doesn't like it.

I still think Freeza Arc will get the Nº5 spot, I think I saw him complaining more with Android & Cell Arc and the Majin Bu Arc (I think he dislikes the former far more).Nightmare Wheel wrote:I think most of us predicted that the Freeza Arc would get the five, but I'm starting to wonder if Gaffer is going to throw a curveball at us and give it the three or even the one. I dunno. It just seems work-around-able to me, but I get what you're saying. Ultimately, the stuff about conflicting character designs was something I was more interested in talking about.dbzfan7 wrote:Was hoping the Daimao, Goku, Mutaito paradox was addressed, but I know why it wasn't as stated in the very first dissection video.
I figure it would work out the same way it did when Kuririn tried to shoot at the lava: it would just cause it to rain flaming death upon all of them.Though I don't get why Tenshinhan couldn't just pull a Roshi to stop the volcano.
If this is referring to what I say at the end of the episode, I was making a jab at Fukkatsu no 'F', which I've already intimated in an early DBD episode that I can't stand.Nightmare Wheel wrote:Maybe I'm crazy, but I sort of get a certain vibe that he really doesn't like it.

Only reason I wondered if it'd at least get a name drop, as it's pretty infamous. Unless the Popo machine was just some kind of mind test or something, then I can see it all working. If it's just a time machine, then it really makes no sense at all.Gaffer Tape wrote:I dunno. It just seems work-around-able to me, but I get what you're saying. Yeah I got that as I name dropped the first video which covers why something like that isn't important to cover.
Krillin I recall shot at a part of the mountain. Roshi blew it all up famously. Perhaps the one Roshi blew up wasn't as far into it's eruption cycle...maybe...I figure it would work out the same way it did when Kuririn tried to shoot at the lava: it would just cause it to rain flaming death upon all of them.

This is a volcano. What Muten Roshi blew up was a mountain that had been cursed by a fire spirit. As in, it was a mountain with magical fire surrounding it. Presumably if you get rid of the mountain, there's no more fire. With a volcano, if you blow up the earth, you've just made it that much easier for the lava to disperse.dbzfan7 wrote:Krillin I recall shot at a part of the mountain. Roshi blew it all up famously. I dunno. I can see a person doing better against one type of opponent than another. Goku and Mutaito only spar for a few seconds, and Goku is not used to ki being used in that way. I can definitely see Mutaito having an advantage in that area without it contradicting anything. Maybe that's just me.If it's just a time machine, then it really makes no sense at all.

Ah I see. I didn't recall Mt. Fry Pan being like that, but that makes sense. Although GT Goku I think basically do the same thing to a volcano. But still very good point.Gaffer Tape wrote:This is a volcano. What Muten Roshi blew up was a mountain that had been cursed by a fire spirit. Eh I don't think that really works when someone is in a league of their own. Daimao absolutely toys with Mutaito in the anime. Fair enough reason I'll say, but I don't really agree. Mutaito and Goku physically clash, with Mutaito making it look like he's not really trying. Which in a physical confrontation, he shouldn't last a second. Which is why I think if this weren't a time travel machine specifically, but more of a machine that projects past events in Goku's mind, it'd make more sense why something like this could occur.I dunno. Kinda like how Silverfang is a much more skilled and disciplined fighter than Saitama who is considered an amateur, but no amount of skill and expert martial arts can help him against a guy who's just out of his league. Which is a point later in the One Punch Man story.

I love all of the original storylines in the 1986 animated series. You could really tell that Okazaki and Nishio were trying to expand upon the world of Dragon Ball a little bit while also drawing on other aspects of the genres that influenced the original comic.
You didn't mention Utsumi Kenji as Mutaito! That guy has got some serious range, going from Shen Long to the Tenka'ichi Announcer to Senbei to Mutaito!

Wow. You know, I don't think I actually ever realized that was Utsumi! Wow. Now that you mention it, I can hear it. It's such a shame he left the franchise. So many awesome roles.
You know, there are so many times I feel I get the "you forgot"ism, where someone tells me, "Oh, you forgot to mention this!" And I just kinda roll my eyes and grumble and think, "I didn't forget. I just didn't have anything to say about it!" But, yeah, I really didn't know that at all. So thank you!

Hehe, I just thought it was kind of strange to mention Nakao and Aono but then skip of Utsumi given the role he played in this arc. It's really cool how the production crew kept finding ways to bring Utsumi, Aono, Chiba and Gouri Daisuke back both as their main roles and as one-off characters.
