Basically they are stating my opinion, even on material which is consistent between all media is invalid because of my position on other unrelated filler/dubs. This is snobbery and elitism and runs rampant in here to the point where if you aren't reading the original Japanese manga your opinion is invalid. I would expect differences of opinion and welcome them. They make us better and more informed fans.
Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I do appreciate it. I think it's a bit confusing for me because I've only watched the English dub through once, basically, when it was first broadcast on Toonami. After that, I got really into the manga and focused nearly exclusively on that. So when you talk about Goku stating he would avenge the Saiyan race, I get a little confused because I think he only says that one time (in the version I've read) and only because Vegeta asked him to. I hope none of that has come off the wrong way.

Part of the influence on my opinion is that so many characters seem to be brought back endlessly or overused into oblivion. I was excited to see Freeza return, but now that it all played out, it seems like it was wasted. I like that characters such as Raditz, Cell, and the Ginyu's were all let be after serving their purpose. More than anything else, I'm burned out on there being more and more Saiyans when I find other races more interesting at this point. Goku being a total airhead about his origin and focusing exclusively on the people that love him seems like such an integral part of the character to me, losing that would make me a bit sad. Sort of like how DB minus gutted Bardock's character, compared to the old TV Special.

Sorry Mikado. I didn't mean to be snobby and if i came off as such then I apologize. This site isn't like that and it's a great place for Dragon Ball fans to talk.

Totally get it, I don't think Goku needed to be the one to get into his origins because he is an airhead, but a nice scene would have been a reformed Radditz sitting in Gokus house and teen/post teen Gohan asking him why he kidnapped him as a baby. Gohan would be naturally interested in the history and in his grandparents. Especially with the relationship he seems to have with the Ox king. It would have been a much more natural way of doing a Dragonball minus style origin story without all the messiness of Dragonball minus.

No problem, I think for me personally I consider everything with the Dragonball name and Toriyama name on it Canon. Meaning whatever the contents of it he approves of that story and that side being told of his characters. I don't really believe in layers of canoncity although some portions are more integral to the story than others.

I don't see Raditz as wasted potential. Sure, he's Goku's brother, but... Goku was never special among his own race in the first place. Literally every other Earth-bred saiyan in the manga has more potential than Goku. It's just... Goku has a passion for fighting that's unheard of in his universe. Raditz was a saiyan that knew his place, never broke his own limits, and was a lapdog to Vegeta and Frieza alike.

He served the role that suited him the best. Anything he could have brought to the story was done by Vegeta.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

I really think he should've been much more prominent. I'd want him to at least play a similar role to Nappa. In the fanfic I'm writing, Raditz is an important character who actually lives until the fight with Frieza, where he sacrifices himself to save Goku.

"My opinion of Norihito's Sumitomo's new score is... well, very mixed. The stuff that's good is pretty darn good, but the stuff that's bad makes elevator music sound like Jerry freaking Goldsmith." -Kenisu

Yeah I like that a lot better. I mean it's funny how now everyone in Goku's immediate family is now pretty nice in Dragonball minus except for Radditz. I mean they do have the same mother and father unless they want to make him Gokus half brother now?
