I am really depressed right now after hearing that. I only wish that in some way they will not do what you are insinuating. I can't imagine what would make them stop. People do want the episodes in Spanish, don't they?Conan the SSJ wrote: Ummm...All those screen-caps are real and the Spanish-Mexican version isn't available on the first season set. When FUNi halted the Ultimate Uncut volumes at #9, they also decided no inclusion of the Spanish version on the new releases. You'll probably only ever have DBZ episodes 1-27 and movie 5 for that, sorry.

Yes, we do want the episodes in Spanish. I grew up with DBZ, and all of my DBZ loving friends were from Mexico, so it definately is something I would pay for.
However, this whole widescreen bullshit is something I, nor any other DBZ fan has asked for... And unlike a lot of people who feel this release is a good'un, I won't be shoveling out the money for it.
But the UUE dvd's missed one thing that I would've liked, and that was subtitles for the Spanish version. I know some spanish, but not enough to know exactly what was being said.

What? Japan is where DBZ is from. It isn't from Mexico.nathantheguitarist wrote:But that doesn't mean that can't put out the Spanish version, does it?
I mean, they're not a Japanese company, so why the hell are they putting out the Japanese version?
So, the point is... you post too much

Maybe there's just not enough outcry over the lack of a Spanish audio track here. Remember, we also didn't have the episodes available in Japanese for a while either. Maybe you need to write an additional letter to FUNi asking them to bring back the Spanish dub... o-onathantheguitarist wrote:But that doesn't mean that can't put out the Spanish version, does it?

Okay: They're real. Here are the time codes, all from disc 1 (these are in hour:minute:second format):bkev wrote:I mean no offense to Corey, honest. I just want to hear it from him, again, that these are real. And screens from someone else backing this up would be nice.
Piccolo's 6 appears at approximately 1:09:32-1:09:33.
The hair on the ground appears at approximately 1:05:49-1:05:50.
The ripped frame appears at approximately 50:29-50:30.
And the pepper in 'Head Cha La' appears in every fucking episode because they got lazy and used the same great remastered footage each time.
Still don't believe me? Buy the discs, see for yourself. I'm kinda insulted that someone would call me an "Anti-FUNimation fanboy" since I own quite a few of their releases for other shows and my only gripes with FUNimation on this release have been supported by fact. Guess I can't criticize a company that's trying to sell us stuff without being branded an anti

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I don't know what's worse, the fact that FUNi failed to actually remaster every little grain/scratch and has been touting the release as "frame-by-frame" remaster or the fact that people are going through and complaining about frames with a tiny white splotch that shows up for a 60th of a second.
I mean, gosh, complaing about the widescreen issue, fine, whatever, but isn't this just a -tad- obsessive? People not purchasing this set because of pieces of grain? It's not like we have a cleaner alternative that's been released on these shores anyway.

Wait, so how come you're allowed to think the former is a bad thing but nobody else is? For me at least, and I presume for others, it's not the scratches themselves that are the problem, but that FUNi's rhetoric suggested they wouldn't be there because (as you mentioned) they were doing a "frame-by-frame" remaster. It's another untruth from FUNi in a long, long line of them related to this release.Undercooked Sausage wrote:I don't know what's worse, the fact that FUNi failed to actually remaster every little grain/scratch and has been touting the release as "frame-by-frame" remaster or the fact that people are going through and complaining about frames with a tiny white splotch that shows up for a 60th of a second.

Because we've had scratches/grain for the last eleven years. Widescreen was a completely unneccessary addition.
EDIT: oop, sorry. I read that wrong, I think it's stupid, really, but the reaction here is a bit too obsessive.
It really seems like nothing that we haven't dealt with before. and FUNi lying, I'm used to it by now.

I don't see how that answers my question, but neither do I disagree with you.
If this release was in the original aspect ratio I would grudgingly accept the idiosyncracies of the transfer. It would still be a pathetic excuse for a "frame-by-frame remaster", with none of the actual damage fixed and detail removed by DVNR, but it's nothing I'd refuse to buy it over.

Well, it's not so much they're complaining because of the grain/specks/whatnot, it's just that FUNi advertised that they did some omega badass "$2,000,000" frame-by-frame "painstaking" remastering job, when clearly that wasn't done. While the principle of this does bother me, it doesn't drive me to the point where I'm gonna go "Fuck this set, bring on the R2s, I'd rather spend nearly 2 grand for unsubbed DBZ than this deal". However, it's clearly swaying many others who have a more ... retentive desire for how something's marketed and how something "should" look, no matter the price and positive issues. Clearly, I don't really give a rats ass about it anymore, hence why I still intend to buy each released set.Undercooked Sausage wrote:I don't know what's worse, the fact that FUNi failed to actually remaster every little grain/scratch and has been touting the release as "frame-by-frame" remaster or the fact that people are going through and complaining about frames with a tiny white splotch that shows up for a 60th of a second.

I'm looking for the white pepper in the Head Cha La opening in the UUE discs right now.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Not sure, someone who owns them should be able to tell you though (I think Mike has them, he could confirm). EDIT: Hell yes the pepper is still there! So pretty much it's a matter of
"Hey, look at the huge, noticable white shit on the screen! We should definately erase that off the screen for the season sets, right boss?"
"Forget it! No one will notice! In fact, just re-use the same opening over and over again to save even more time!"
