Can you belive at one point that was the only version we had in America.

I must say I like Season 1 quality over the Dragonbox. The 1 dot in the sky as pointed out in page 1 doesnt bother me at all its these errors that just suck.

Well yeah. Those are the only other releases with english subs in full screen. In terms of my preferences, the only other choice would be the DragonBox singles which... aren't exactly your-average-fan-friendly in terms of money.Vegita wrote:^ You mean Funi's original DVD releases? I don't necessarily mean those as they were way too expensive for three episodes.Vegita wrote:^ You mean Funi's original DVD releases? Certainly you kid.
I mean, if they just took some non-remastered 4:3 DBZ in Japanese and threw 39 episodes of it out there on a DVD set for about $15 or $20 I'd buy that without hesitation.

If that is the only choice, then I'd agree.Kendamu wrote: I don't necessarily mean those as they were way too expensive for three episodes.

Maybe they think we'll just trash the slip covers and throw them away. So if you're the kind of person who does that anyway, I suppose it's not much of an issue...EvilGamerX wrote:You know what really brought things home....

So they wanna do an image on the side like the old VHS tapes to make a picture. Cool. But what good is it going to do if this image is under the slipcover?

Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

those season 1 images are fantastic imo.
the dragonbox does not win in terms of the grain war etc.
the dragonbox has allways been great, but its allways been a bit of a dull picture, like its got a shade of blue over it making it dimm.
the season 1 has defeated this, making the colours smooth, and the picture alive without over saturating or changing the colours much atall.
and that guy in the season 1 featurette said he tried to make the colours how he thought the artist would have wanted them.
the sky is never green, not even when its sun set.
i prefer the season 1, its just a shame its cropped.

This is complete speculation but it'd be cool if they did what the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions did, which was after you bought all three, you could send away for a display box to put them all in. I could see that happening with this, just really long.EvilGamerX wrote:You know what really brought things home....

Hope you're prepared for a lot of them, because I don't exaggerate when I say they pop up every few seconds. It's very distracting.Vegita wrote:I must say I like Season 1 quality over the Dragonbox. Yeah, the Pioneer discs were horrible. A lot can be attributed to the low bitrates and the fact that color saturations and so forth were manipulated.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Just for fun, here is the Pioneer release VS the Season 1 set... There is no contest.

I'm not ridiculing/criticizing any of you. But why did you complain about the set, knowing fully well what it was going to be like and then buy it? Only to complain even more. You're just giving Funimation more money.
And in all honesty, everyone is looking for flaws with the release with a fine tooth comb.

Well I know that MajinVejita said his reason for buying it was to watch it for himself to be able to do an accurate review of it and point out the problems with them. I believe he said that he was going to give the set away after.GI_Judd2287 wrote:I'm not ridiculing/criticizing any of you. Amusingly, the level of detail is still better in the Pioneer DVD shot. Look at the shadowy part on Kami's arm - on the Pioneer DVD there are lots of individual lines, but on the season 1 DVD there's just a blurry smudge. A clear example of the negative effects of FUNi's DVNR.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Just for fun, here is the Pioneer release VS the Season 1 set... There is no contest.
