Some people say "Don't criticise it until you've bought it." Others say "Don't buy it if you're just going to criticise it." You can't win.
(Personally I'd love to buy it and see for myself, but I can't bring myself to since I don't want to give FUNimation money for it =)

Well, to them I can say "I'm not going to buy a product I don't want" and "This is a Dragonball discussion forum and asx it is such I can discuss my opinions on Dragonbal-related releases whether you like said opinion or not."
Just because they don't want to read negative comments doesn't mean we need to shut up. Thosepeople can be as offended as they want but their emotional state doesn't grant them the right to shut other people up on a forum they don't run.

I'm not trying to shut anyone up. I just think it's senseless that someone would spend money on something they know they wouldn't like.

Amusingly, the level of detail is still better in the Pioneer DVD shot. Look at the shadowy part on Kami's arm - on the Pioneer DVD there are lots of individual lines, but on the season 1 DVD there's just a blurry smudge. A clear example of the negative effects of FUNi's DVNR.
Man, that's just ANOTHER kick in FUNi's face.

Mine still hasn't come in yet, and I doubt I'll "like" them over DragonBox... but I paid $25 for the thing to get almost 40 episodes worth of good subtitles (which is the one of the few things they have done right really)

Well, some of us, even though we don't like the widescreen issues, wanted the uncut season 1, just to have it. Just because you buy something doesn't mean you're not allowed to criticize it.

Actually, I meant it was nifty with all the "remastering" he did to it. :F

Dude... where'd you order it for $25? I've been looking around and the lowest price I've seen them at is $30 at Amazon... can you tell me where to find it so I can change my order?
I mean, no offense; it's not so much a matter of "I don't want to spend a lot of money on this set because I don't think it's worth it" as it is "I don't have a lot of money to spend in the first place because I'm in college and there are other things I want to look at getting as well"... ^^;

I'd say the yellow ceiling is a bit more damning in this shot. It looks like someone took a wet paintbrush and just smeared the the paint across the entire frame. DVNR hoorah!!!
On that note, aside from my general dislike of the English cast, I've gotta say that I'm loving hearing the show with the original BGM in the dub. Hopefully these new dub masters eventually get onto TV, so more people can appreciate the original score, which they've probably never heard in DBZ before.

From the side by sides I think that it looks better then the Dragonbox, The characters in Funi's release dont look as deathly pale as the dragonbox's.

On the flip side, FUNi's release seems to lose a lot of the detail found on the original masters as mentioned by another forum member. I guess it just depends on whether you prefer color over detail. I personally don't mind the paleness on the Dragon Box. I feel by keeping a lot of what is there & not replacing it with bright colors is truely keeping the integrity of the film.

Hence why I said "was". When CD-Universe had that $20 preorder price, that was the best deal anywhere to get that much of DBZ uncut and with the Japanese version. So it would've been very wise to order it while that price was in force. Obviously, I'm just getting it at Best Buy on street release day.
