This is a close up from the Android/Cell arc of DBZ. This is exactly the moment where Android 17 arrived in Kame House just before the fight between Piccolo post Kami Fusion vs Android 17.

The ear could use some work and the colours could definitely be better, but I'm officially using this as my go-to example when I get asked what my issue is with the current ones.
So good. The colors are pretty bad, but man, this puts the new art style to shame. If this is Yamamuro's fault, can't put it other way, screw him.

It wasn't exactly great. Being far better animated than the first part of the fight is its only saving grace.

I like that a LOT! looks really good, coolers kind of look liek they been orange box'd a bit. Looks close to the super vegeta episodes from cell's arc. Looks really nice anyways, huge improvement. Really talented dude or lady who drew that deserves a medal.

There is exactly one good shot, the shot of Vegeta sweeping Cabba only to be kicked upward. The rest is barely animated, let alone timed well. It's much better than anything else in the tournament thus far and that's it. The fight still suffers from the same production issues all of the other fights suffer from and is no more animated than an early fight in Pocket Monster.

Is it bad if I prefer Yamamuro? Really, this just makes him that more appealing.

I like it a lot more too. A took a little bit of time and tried to make it look more like the old-school Yamamuro from the Cell arc and recolored it to fit the style of palette from that time. I filtered the last shot too since it has somewhat of a darkening filter in the original shot.

Agreed, the bottom right looks absolutely fantastic. It looks like old-school Vegeta

Yeah, that's not Vegeta's character design since Boo. I'm rather used to his later style and i think it's a little too late for that.

And that cell effect screams nostalgia. Anime just doesn't look like that anymore.

Holly hell that looks absolutely amazing! OMG. Now I'm sad. And I like Yamamuro, but this is some proof that he's going in the wrong direction with his models.

------

About episode #37, I loved it. Now I want Karasawa to be a regular animator. He did an amazing job with the Kyabe fight.

This shot was amazing. I was really hyped. Too bad the youngfella is that skinny, but I guess it is what it is.

Next episode will have Tate, right? I don't like his style with stills, but he's by far one of the best animators, right? I hope some day they'll find a proper balance between those two factors. It's so sad we cannot find a complete episode with great modeling, movement, animation and stills like in the good old days.

Now, is it me or Bulma and Hit are the only ones (maybe Piccolo too) that always are well drawn/model/animated?

Beerus and Whis almost always look good. Champa and Vados too, I suppose. I can't think of any obviously bad drawings of Goten or Trunks. Kaio has also been drawn consistently, even in episode 5, though his face is fairly simple to outline.

Piccolo looks spotty from time to time - and I'm not a huge fan of how Yamamuru designs him to begin with - but he has it leagues better than Goku and Vegeta, who are the most glaringly inconsistent, it seems. Of course, them having the most screen time could factor into that perception.

I more or less agree. The only thing I dislike about the modern style is how shiny the characters are and Vegeta being drawn taller. If they tone the shine down and made Vegeta his proper size, the characters would be just fine to me.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Just to clarify, the cel edit I did was for fun, not a serious suggestion. I don't need my anime to look like aged cels anymore.

I do not like Yamamuro's current designs, though. They don't really match Toriyama's current style and they're significantly worse than the Boo arc.

That redrawn scene done by a Reddit user does not fit Vegeta's current character growth. He looks like a blood thirst murderer.

It's nice to see a model from the Cell arc, but again, it does not fit with the current Dragon Ball. If there's models to copy from that will go along well with it, it's the Boo arc. Nakatsuru's character designs from back then blends well with the modern Dragon Ball. It might retain the shiny looks, but the production would benefit from it.

Just because he's grown as a person on the inside, doesn't mean he should change on the outside. He should look like he's been given a wax coating to look shiney, and he shouldn't have such a baby face, and he doesn't look cold blooded he looks like he's got not forgiveness in him and pure hate, as he should in that scene when he faces Frieza, Vegeta killing Frieza has so much built around it....to bad they didn't do it. I want Vegeta to look like this.
