So what was the point of bringing buu and piccolo if they weren't going to do shit in this arc

They haven't done anything yet and considering how unpredictable this arc has been, I won't be surprised if they do something when whoever jumps in the ring after the tournament.

As characters, they don't care. Even Goku and Vegeta as characters seem pretty much finished. Their job is just to interact with others, rather than actually grow themselves. The only thing they'll be growing is their power levels.

Didn't you see what happened to Vegeta's character in the last episode?? Haven't you been paying attention to Vegeta's character developement throughout the series since it started, in BOG arc??

Because you saying what you're saying, tells me that you haven't been paying any attention to what has been happening in the series.

I can agree with a lot of negative comments about DBS, but this is complete bullshit!! One of the best jobs DBS has done is growing characters and showing they're growth on screen. If any credit can be given to Super, it must be about that, because thats what they've done best. Not the plot, no the fights, no, CHARACTER INTERACTION AND DEVELOPEMENT has been the main pro of Super in my opinion.

What growth? We've seen the result of the culmination of the ending of the series. Vegeta is the exact same at the beginning of the show as he is at this point. We haven't seen him grow, we've seen the after effect of his growth. That's NOT growth. Z was his growth and change. We saw him change from a psychopath to a better person. Super didn't portray Vegeta as one thing, and then slowly change him over it's course. We're only seeing the results after the culmination of his character was completed in the Boo arc.

Super's only actual character change we've seen is Beerus, and potentially Gohan. We saw Beerus' change over the course of BOG from where he was, and what he became. Gohan we see potentially learning his lesson, and changing for the future. Vegeta is Vegeta. Goku is Goku. Freeza is Freeza. They are who they are. Goku doesn't change. Vegeta's change already occured.

I have watched the show. By all means disagree with me, but do it without the attitude of "OMG I DISAGREE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!"

Vegeta never went Super Saiyan Blue so was never in real trouble and Vegeta would not lose until the audience sees Super Saiyan Blue.

Vegeta could lose because Goku was still in the tournament and could showcase Blue.

Okay, really in love with Hit's technique. That's such a cool ability to give a character at this stage in the game, and presumably it could let him hang in against characters far stronger than him (though obviously he's absurdly strong too), unless they can perfectly predict his movements as I'm guessing Goku will do, having seen his fight with Vegeta.

Can't believe people are still getting hung up on who did what or won which matches when things are really getting bizarre and interesting and feeling perfectly Dragon Ball at this stage.

Something odd and interruptive seems to be set to take place just after the tournament. In a way, that's more exciting than the outcome many had predicted for so, so long here--that Earth would be switched to U6 and somehow have to be switched back with the Super Dragon Balls.

Also incredibly curious about Monaka--I'm starting to suspect he may be the real deal, but Whis' words earlier are pretty dismissive, so who knows? He's both hinted that Monaka may be very weak and also said in confidence to Beerus, "Don't blame me if something happens."

Re: Character growth:

Yeah, Goku and Vegeta have been pretty stagnant. We definitely haven't seen any shockers like Goku's behavior in the Saiyan and Namek arcs, or the slight revelation he has in the Cell arc, etc. Vegeta's change happened in the Boo arc and the new more protagonist-like personality we're seeing here is the result. Honestly, I don't know if we'll ever get that from Super, and that's one of the things that keeps it feeling a little separate from the original run. Though we'll see. There've been gestures toward it, but nothing like the simultaneous strength-growth and character-growth (or character-getting-more-dangerous in the case of Goku) the original series provided each arc.

Maybe Toei should have suggested to Toriyama about finally giving someone else the Kaioken while bringing it back from obscurity. That could realistically put Piccolo ahead of the Super Saiyans again and in the running for a three-man team with Goku & Vegeta against whoever the antagonist for this arc is.

If the Super Kaio-Ken is any indication, a SSGSS Kaio-Ken would still just tint him red and not alter all the colors.
