Nothing has ever hinted at any character doing anything of importance in a later stage of the story in Dragon Ball... ever. Dragon Ball has never had foreshadowing for future events or circumstances of characters. If Toriyama feels the need to the need to throw someone in the plot for the sake of relevance, he'll do so at the drop of a hat. I mean, look at Freeza.pacz360 wrote:True however nothing hints at big green doing shit in the near future.sintzu wrote:Toriyama is a very unpredictable writer so anything could happen.pacz360 wrote:If super have piccolo do something important he let that shit go.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I've seen so much more Piccolo fans complain nowadays. I feel like a lot of Gohan fans have learnt to not expect much. Besides Gohan fans DO have more of a right to complain more. Gohan's fall from fame was much larger and sudden than piccolo's. Piccolo hasn't been truly relevant since android 17. Gohan was a main character not so long ago. Plus he has the potential to keep up with Goku and Vegeta if not surpass them. Piccolo simply can't keep up so it makes sense for him to drop in relevance. Then they'res the fact that Gohan has been straight up shamed in this series. In BOG (Not including Godku and Rageta) he was the strongest but didn't even throw a punch at Beerus. Then he gets humiliated against Freeza. Gohan fans also have to listen to him getting called saiyan yamcha, nerd and even pussy just because he isn't a meat head that only cares about fighting. He has realistic priorities, so what? The guy's still easily top 10 in the universe but still gets trashed on for not being the best at something he doesn't like. Honestly if Gohan gets relevant, my favorite part about it will be seeing the haters shutting the fuck up.Gohan fans complain all the time about how much he gets the short end of the stick so why can't Piccolo fans be angry?
Disclaimer: I might get into a disagreement with you. Sometimes I might even get feisty about it. I'll never harbor negative feelings because of it though. I hope you feel the same way!Jinzoningen MULE wrote: Maybe I should start making it a point not to comment when I'm not sure of something. Too many people know what they're talking about around here.
I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I agree. I don't mind any of the complaining when it was during that period, but there's nothing new on that topic to complain about yet, so there's no point in bringing it up again. If something like it happens again in an upcoming episode then by all means bring it up as another addition to disappointment.alakazam^ wrote:It was long enough, you should let that go already.Zombie wrote:Sorry but no. No I'd say Gohan fans haven't been complaining, because there is nothing to complain about yet. He's been off screen for several episodes and chapters, that there's nothing to discuss about. If something they deem bad happens, trust me, they'll be outraged again. Piccolo fans are complaining more because their burns are more recent. If Piccolo disappears for some time, his fans will quiet down too. The heat is off Gohan as he's gone for now, and they'll be off Piccolo too after some time.kinisking wrote:I've seen so much more Piccolo fans complain nowadays. I have but this attitude of "you have to let that go already because I say so" is honestly bullshit.alakazam^ wrote:It was long enough, you should let that go already.Zombie wrote:Sorry but no. He has the right to be pissed.

He has all the right in the world to still be upset and complain. You also have the right to ignore him.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The 180 at the end of the Buu arc may have been sudden, but that blow's been gradually softened more and more with pretty much each major addition to the story thereafter. GT drove home the "Gohan's not special anymore" message for 64 episodes, 20 years ago. Battle of Gods confirmed said message 3 years ago, and Revival of F only continued the trend. It may have been abrupt two decades ago, but it's been par the course since. Perhaps Toriyama's recent comments will finally seal the deal:kinisking wrote:Gohan's fall from fame was much larger and sudden than piccolo's.
His treatment for the last two decades coupled with this comment ought to temper some peoples' expectations. Gohan is not likely to be as relevant to the plot as he was during the Cell Games, ever again. Toriyama appears to be done and satisfied with his character arc, with him as a big power player. The same appears true for Piccolo. I'm not saying "don't be upset or disappointed if they don't return to their former fame", because it's understandable to be disappointed when something you want to happen doesn't. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't expect something as unrealistic as this, to the point where it absolutely dominates your association with the series for weeks. Nobody is entitled to have the exact plot points and character usage that they desire be penned by Toriyama/Toyotaro/Toei, and this complaining for weeks on end heavily gives off the impression that people seem unaware of this simple fact. And hell, just because you were displeased with how Toriyama had a character do doesn't mean that Toriyama was doing anything out of malice toward the character.Toriyama:
But drawing Gohan’s daily life made me gradually realize he likes studying more than fighting (laughs). Later on he even lost his dōgi (laughs).
Toyotarō:
Now he’s fulfilled his childhood dream and become a fine scholar.
No but seriously Akira's a fucking hack for not bringing back my man Tao Pai Pai. We could have had the ultimate assassin battle!
That makes it sound like the Gohan fans complaining ad nauseam is something that the Piccolo fans ought to emulate.Shin wrote:Gohan fans complain all the time about how much he gets the short end of the stick so why can't Piccolo fans be angry?

Whipped this up real quick, what one would you guys prefer for Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken?

I'm not sure it's worth whipping up possible colors for the "new" technique. It's been described as the seal on it being broken when Goku uses it. What if that means he's perfected it, and it loses its side effects and is no longer red or something?

It took a few seconds to do each one. I think it's fun to speculate what it might look like.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I'm not sure it's worth whipping up possible colors for the "new" technique. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I agree with all of this. He's done. I don't understand why preferring to study means, they can't acquire strength to protect their life style and family, but I suppose to Toriyama, you must be obsessed with fighting if you want to be relevant. That is his choice, and it's better than him trying to force something he doesn't feel like doing. Despite Gohan actually training again, I doubt it'll mean anything in the end. He's just not welcome as a driving character of the story no more.Zephyr wrote:The 180 at the end of the Buu arc may have been sudden, but that blow's been gradually softened more and more with pretty much each major addition to the story thereafter. Doesn't help though that even before Super, having a bunch of characters just stand there and do nothing all the time is annoying. Having OP/ED's suggesting greater importance is also aggravating. Though the most riling thing is of course, reusing the character in the form of another character. That's kind of the biggest blow of all. What with Oob and so far, Cabba essentially doing that. Hopefully if Cabba sticks around he at least shows off massive personality differences, or he'll forever be grating.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Why is everyone bringing up kaioken? Goku hasnt used that move canon wise after turning into a ssj, did I miss something?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Wow so many pages to go through in so little time. I'm so curious about the Kaioken, I thought that move was gone! The end of the tournament will be so eventful. This is so much like the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, introduce relevant characters that will participate in the main course, finish the entrée in a bang!
I strongly disagree with the claims of predictability. Goku and Vegeta would always be favorites but nothing that happened in this tournament was plain to see, there was always doubt, even knowing how the characters were holding back.
The plot suffered from the limitations of a tournament, but it always kept things interesting and moving forward.
Can't wait for the next episode, but much more than that, for the arc beyond this tournament. There, without a limiting format holding the show back, the unpredictability will be without bounds.

Honestly this whole but gohan fans or piccolo fans have more right to complain is bullshit both sides have the right to complain i all i want for those two to actually get treated with respect like in z instead being a cheerleader to goku and vegeta is that so much to ask????!!! What the fuck does gohan even study for anyway tori doesn't make it seem like it"ll benefit him or anybody in the long run.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I don't need Gohan to be a relevant fighter to be happy. I'd love to see him do something related to his smarts like in dragonball online.

Yes, yes you did.

In DBO, he publishes a book that introduces ki control to the general public. In a way, he inherits his Father's will in providing Earthlings the means to protect themselves from danger. I like it, as they both execute the same plan with different methods.pacz360 wrote:Honestly this whole but gohan fans or piccolo fans have more right to complain is bullshit both sides have the right to complain i all i want for those two to actually get treated with respect like in z instead being a cheerleader to goku and vegeta is that so much to ask????!!! I think 1's my favorite though; I've always been a fan of that deeper shade of blue.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Something like that can do but super don't even hint him doing it unless that stuff is/or will be canon that doesnt't mean shit in the end.Nejishiki wrote:In DBO, he publishes a book that introduces ki control to the general public. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Everybody has the right to complain about the path a character is taking. Nobody has to be forced to accept what the story gives us and be happy about. But when people start to post with unrestricted bias for example: "Of course Piccolo had to lose, this is the Goku and Piccolo show". Then there's no discussion and just plain whining.pacz360 wrote:Honestly this whole but gohan fans or piccolo fans have more right to complain is bullshit both sides have the right to complain i all i want for those two to actually get treated with respect like in z instead being a cheerleader to goku and vegeta is that so much to ask????!!! Because they are isolating that character, forgetting all other characters besides what their argument wants to include. I can go ahead and cry how Kuririn didn't even get to fight in the tournament. So why are Piccolo fans complain about him, if anybody got the shaft it was Kuririn and Tenshinhan and Yamcha and ..., you see my point. But my point would be wrong, if made it in these terms. I would just be whining.
Those exaggerated complains are mostly, disappointed fans that had broken expectations. The thing is the show didn't say Piccolo would win anything or that he got any stronger. They said Piccolo will fight, Goku and Vegeta were still the main characters in the opening, nobody has been promised anything, it's all very honest and straightforward.
