"Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Here's the Q&A. I don't think we'll get an announcement until closer to when it's due to start on Toonami.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I love how he prefaces it with "I'm not supposed to tell you this...but I'm going to tell you this". I guess he really doesn't care about NDAs. But yeah, I predict an announcement 3 months before the air date. People have calculated the current Toonami airing to finish in November or December right? That means that it should hopefully be announced (if they follow the pattern for the original Kai) in August or September.DBZ_Lee wrote:Here's the Q&A. If nothing else it does give me some comfort hearing him speak so reassuringly about it.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Thank you so much for posting this. It's not the long overdue official announcement I would have preferred, but damned if it wasn't satisfying to hear. Now we...continue to wait.DBZ_Lee wrote:Here's the Q&A. I don't think we'll get an announcement until closer to when it's due to start on Toonami.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I suppose a decent question at this point is does anyone think they will begin releasing the blu ray/dvds slightly before or as it starts airing on tv and wind up with the home release completely out while the series is still running on tv, or god forbid would we potentially have to wait for the broadcast to finish? If I had to wait till like 2018 to get blu rays...... just completely losing my shit over the thought :p Just actually did the short math, if they never took a single break it would be 2 weeks shy of 2 years from now before it finishes its toonami run.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I would love more than anything for the home releases and broadcast versions to be released simultaneously. Add that to the fact many of us, while excited about the Buu saga are anxious to get on to Funi Super already (and Chris Sabat said he wants that). Toonami should really move the series to a weekday slot, it would do well I'm sure of that.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

The issue there is that Toonami is only a Saturday evening block. It seems inevitable that "The Final Chapters" of Kai will air on Toonami, and the home video release will happen as the Series airs - in parts.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:I would love more than anything for the home releases and broadcast versions to be released simultaneously. So basically, the first 12 episodes will release a few weeks after the 12th airs etc etc. Whilst FUNi will have got Toei to allow Kai to air on Toonami, I can't see them doing the same for Super.
Whilst Kai is simply a re cut version of Z which almost everyone has seen, Toei were probably ok with the fact that it will air late at night, at a time where kids won't be watching it. Super, however is new, and Toei will want it on at a time and channel where kids are able to see it, this is where I assume Nicktoons would be a possibility once more.
Toonami isn't suitable for Super, it needs to be aired at a time when its target audience are going to be able to watch it. And I can't see FUNi, or Toei for that matter being sat around for more than a year or so waiting for the Buu arc to finish up in order to start getting Super out.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
It really feels like they're dragging this out than it really should.. What is going on with this thing? It's been years and it's still not out or not even an official announcement.
If this ever comes out I really wish they release it on blu-ray right away and not wait for any tv release. How will they get Super out if they can't even get Kai out?

We'll probably have to wait for it to air on TV 1st.Jackal puFF wrote:How will they get Super out if they can't even get Kai out?
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Just actually looked back up the original american air dates and the home releases for Parts 1-8. Part 1 is the only volume that actually went on sale with a few episodes on it that had yet to be aired on tv yet putting it ahead of broadcast schedule. Every other Part release was typically out slightly after the corresponding episodes had already aired. That does not bode well with my feelings for the future. Anybody have any evidence or reason to believe that trend will not continue as the Buu arc rolls out or do ya think we may be in some semblance of luck? Again at that rate its gonna be 2018 before we finally have the thing in its entirety on hand.

All this TV deal stuff is probably BS to be perfectly honest. We know why it took so long, Schemmel was the last to record a few weeks ago while everyone had already recorded. Be patient, we know why it took so long and now it's getting ready to be released and all you have to do is give it a little bit more time. It might air on Toonami but that probably won't affect the home release.

TV deal isn't BS, Toei is just old fashioned.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:All this TV deal stuff is probably BS to be perfectly honest. Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
It's never been confirmed. The reasoning has been said, Sean needed to finish recording but was too busy doing F. Now he's done and it's coming soon. There is no TV deal.Kuririn Fan wrote:TV deal isn't BS, Toei is just old fashioned.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:All this TV deal stuff is probably BS to be perfectly honest. Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
We don't know that. Maybe because he knew that Boo Kai will air after the 98 episodes of Kai 1.0 on Toonami, that he had time so he can record it whenever he wants before that.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:It's never been confirmed. Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Also, we know that Funimation has had "The Final Chapters" since 2013 and has been dubbing it since then. Isn't it a little hard to believe that it would take more than 3 years before we would see any of it? Couldn't they have finished dubbing 69 episodes between April 2013 (when we first heard that Funimation had it) and August 2014 (when Battle of Gods released)? There has to be more to it than just Sean's scheduling.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Funimation announced their July releases and Kai isn't on it.
Maybe August ?

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Don't hold your breath. I would not be surprised at all if we had to wait till December or 2017.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
But that's for a release, right? If we expect a December release, I don't think it would be too unreasonable to expect an announcement 3 months prior. So that would mean we'd hear about it in September.ShaneisMC wrote:Don't hold your breath. I would not be surprised at all if we had to wait till December or 2017.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
That would sound "reasonable". As far as "reasonable" can even be applied to this situation anymore.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I would bet that CN, Toei and FUNimation execs are fighting it out, I wouldn't be surprised if they do something to the whole Toonami block because of SUPER, as DB is such a huge product.DBZ_Lee wrote:The issue there is that Toonami is only a Saturday evening block.
