Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Didn't we see a bit of blood when Frost fought Piccolo? I could have swear that we did saw purple dots of blood. Dragon Ball has been tame on the violence since GT. GT had one scene of blood while DBZ had more. When Buu killed Babidi, we did saw purple blood coming out of his head while in GT, we didn't see any blood when General Rildo blew off Dolltaki's head off. It quickly cut away before we saw anything.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Dragon Ball is kind of my hallmark all-ages material, and I mean that in the truest way -- it can really be appealing to any age group.
That said, being "all-ages" necessitates entertaining kids, sometimes at the expense of adult sensibilities. And that's totally fine. Dragon Ball has always been aimed at kids, but Toriyama's approach to that, in both full-on gag manga and his more action-oriented work, has always come from a place both of anticipating what kids will find funny/cool and a sense of personal amusement. I think both go a long way toward it playing well to any audience.
Toriyama isn't writing down to anybody. He's just trying to have fun.
GT didn't leave characters caked in blood after fights the way Z did, but it still included it for dramatic effect. It definitely had more than one scene with blood. Off the top of my head, Trunks bleeds before Baby possesses him, as does Vegeta, I'm pretty sure there's some blood in Goku and Baby's fight, Piccolo bleeds after Gohan's Kamehameha, I recall Goku bleeding against Super #17, though I could be wrong, there's definitely blood during the fights against the last three dragons (Goku getting swiped by San Xing-Long's claws, Yi Xing-Long throwing the clock, there are instances of Vegeta and Goku spiting up some blood against Yi Xing-Long, Yi Xing-Long himself bleeds a few times, Vegeta getting a spike through the shoulder) etc.
Less frequent, but not avoided outright.

Toriyama added some surprisingly brutal moments to the Boo arc, nearly all of which were toned down in one way or another for the anime. No one was going to script moments like that if the manga hadn't necessitated their inclusion.Hellspawn28 wrote:Didn't we see a bit of blood when Frost fought Piccolo? GT had more then one scene, Goku coughed up blood when punched in the gut by omega, he saw blood on his hands when he got his sight back, nouva cough blood when he was killed and so forth. GT had a LOT of blood, Z had more but....yeah Z was longer. Ball had less blood then GT and was longer, but it didn't need to add it, there wasn't many scenes accept the latter parts that would require blood.
Blood doesn't make the shows good, it is good, but not showing blood when there should be is a negative. Very bad. Super isn't bad for not having blood, it's a good show, but little to no blood is a problem in the show. It'd be better if they showed blood and I think we're gonna get some in the next episode. Hopefully they add blood to the dvd for when Piccolo's arm was yanked off.
For the record aliens having purple blood may be nice to the censors, but I think it's also a logical thing to see and looks even better. That's just me. If super gives piccolo no red blood scenes I won't complain, I'll actually enjoy it

The only blood moment in GT I remember was when Vegeta got stab by Super Yi Xing Long's spike. I remember the rest of GT being much tamer compare to DBZ.

EPIC punch to the got. Goku coughs blood.
Omega-I kill whomever I please.
My favorite blood moment in GT.

Ugh, they really "punched up" the dialogue for the dub.LSSJGODSSJ4Gogeta wrote:You can never kill me omega

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I captured all (or nearly all) GT's instances of blood above, because I have a nearly photographic memory of that series for some reason.*

What about that image?
It's just a preview for next month's issue in this month's digital V-Jump "Plus" bonus app. There's nothing about the show/series in there, other than coming with a Dragon Ball Heroes Frost card, and noting that the issue is due out on the 21st like always. This is all also on the official website.

Just looked at that as well and I am not sure how good that is on general but because it is a promotional manga I suppose it is good. I would expect volume 2 to sell a lot more as it is brand new stuff.

For a monthly promotional manga for a weekly anime, those are really good numbers, in all respect.namekiansaiyan wrote:Just looked at that as well and I am not sure how good that is on general but because it is a promotional manga I suppose it is good. With all the fuss going on and the fact that is sold out, I was expecting much higher numbers.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
It sold less than half of what the first volume of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V manga adaptation (which came out the same day, and also runs in V-Jump) did. That pulled 77,056.
Still, considering that AFAIK other recent DB manga releases (like DB SD and the Full Color volumes) haven't even managed to break into the top 50 in the week of their release (the cut-off generally being around 18,000-20,000 copies), this is an improvement.
Can't help but wonder how it'd do if Shueisha had put it in Weekly Shonen Jump instead of V-Jump. The upcoming Boruto manga is going be monthly while still running in WSJ, so it's not like they couldn't have done the same thing for Super if they'd wanted to.

That's why i said in another thread that it probably had a low first print.FortuneSSJ wrote:With all the fuss going on and the fact that is sold out, I was expecting much higher numbers.
But hey, it's not a regular manga, so those numbers are good, and could be better if it wasn't sold out now.

These sales are super low, it doesn't compare to the past and One Piece

Well it could be one chapter a week, would help both the anime and manga
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Well, yeah. It is just a promotional manga. It was never expected to nor will it ever reach the same heights as a weekly series by the original author.SuperGohan wrote:These sales are super low, it doesn't compare to the past and One Piece

Oh wow these numbers are even better than what I was expecting. I am surprised that 30,000 copies were even available, meaning i didn't know they would print this much promotional manga.
