I was trying to pinpoint why and, yeah, it might be that. Whatever the case, he lends it a little more volume in his line work that helps it stand out. It might actually be the perfect match for his slightly more plasticine style.Wezenheim wrote:I think it's the bangs that help add just a bit more to it. I think his SSBlue hair is shaped pretty nicely.

I wonder who did the "rotating camera" bit at around 30 seconds into part 1. I love me some cool camera work in fights. I could definitely see some of the repeat frames being done by Ootsuka, they did seem similar to his episode 5 work.Sodhi wrote:This is the full fight in HD (1st half of the episode) for those who lagged instream

The Yamamuro shots in this episode actually looked pretty nice, I particularly like this one.

I'd be fine with Yamamuro popping in a bit more just to do stills or things with only a little motion if it looked like his stuff in this episode.

Ah nice, here we go! I adore the hand-clicking Goku does at the start. It's so fluid and filled with character.Sodhi wrote:This is the full fight in HD for those who lagged instream

As for the action, the first cut prior to the Kuririn cutaway is wonderful! That's absolutely Ken Otsuka -- it's identical to his cut in episode 5. But he gets to do a little more than that! Super finally gets some background animation. He also really nails the type of repetitive-framed fighting that I enjoy. It's the part after where I felt things went a bit downhill. The camera swishes were interesting, but the actual fighting was far less well animated; far too stiff and awkward looking.
Really hated this. The long shot looked absolutely dreadful. Thankfully the Otsuka fighting makes a return in small bursts, but for the most part, it was pretty disappointing. Too many shaking stills and camera trickery that I can't abide. It was the same issue I had with the first episode featuring the Vegeta vs Magetta fight. It's short though, so it's not the end of the world!
I'll have to upload some of the later Kaioken stuff. I really liked the cut where Goku and Hit fly off into the air! Reminded me briefly of Hisada's RoSaT cut from Z.

Yes, I noticed the background animation! Its so funny that we were talking about how much we wanted that to be a thing in Super not too long ago. Background animation is great. Even though it was brief, it was noted and appreciated. Part 1 was definitely better than part 2 to me as well, barring the Super Kaio-ken segment of course.
Also, this part gave me episode 27 vibes.

So, now that I've seen the full fight, the first of those two links looks quite good. The second is stiff and lacking impact in the typical vein of Super's rushed fights, though still (unfortunately) far from the worst the series has seen.
Two-thirds of the episode looking good plus an engaging fight from a story perspective still make for an enjoyable experience though. This was good Dragon Ball.

Even though the animation here is nothing special it's still pretty exciting through other means:

The storyboarding, editing and colour palette all make for a really exciting scene. I especially love how it fades to black right before Goku punches Hit.

Thanks for this. The Super Kaio-ken part of my stream was slightly laggy. That... that was beautiful.Sodhi wrote:Here you go ajay, if you needed 2nd half of the episode in HD

Also, did anyone else notice they re-used a shot from episode 38?

~5:18 is the Hisada-esque part that I was referring to. Pretty much everything from there on was great stuff.
Yes! I did, in fact. I guess that speaks volumes about the schedule on this one.Wezenheim wrote: Also, did anyone else notice they re-used a shot from episode 38?
Good ol' Tate worming his way in there.

I hope they're more willing to reuse shots of previous episodes now, it would really help.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #39]
I don't think they've done that before in scenes where it wasn't a flashback have they? I wouldn't mind seeing that more either. We even got another Kai flashback this episode! It was all worth it in the end though.ArchedThunder wrote:I hope they're more willing to reuse shots of previous episodes now, it would really help.
Tate gets to add his name to another good looking Super episode, go figure.

Oh, wow. That shot of Goku firing is almost identical to in Z...I don't know if this is a neat throwback or just lazy fanservice.
Maybe it's both?
Maybe it's both?
I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

The animation for this episode was alright, kinda stiff with some real Glory moments, just like good 'old dbz, what do you guys think of the NEP? Things are looking up, if only a lil bit better it helps a lot!.
There's room for only one snake, and one big boss.
