So very true. FUNi may be hit and miss with direct translations from te JP script, but their re-writes for the heroes' speeches are always pretty top-notch .

Thank you DaemonCorps for the spine scan!

Well... from this, it looks like it's going to be an awkward looking 10 sets. Now it may be 9 because I think they may shrink down the "Z", but otherwise it seems they're going to be milking 6 seasons into 10... oh well... at least they're cheap.

"Oh well... at least they're cheap..." Is the official slogan for these sets. You get what you pay for! Dragonball Z! Now with MORE less picture! ...

Knowing FUNimation, it'll be full price. Which, being the fanboy that I am, will still buy it (It's those like me that FUNimation lives on ).

No, I doubt you will be the only one not buying it, and I encourage everyone who strongly objects to this release to do their part and send Funimation your letters with your reasonable objections. However I, and probably other people didn't "cave" but made an informed decision to take this set as it is.

I agree that buying these sets do send the wrong message to FUNimation in terms of wanting consistent full screen releases, however, I'm pretty sure those whom bought it usually apply to those who are just sick & tired of waiting, don't care much for a full screen release, wide screen release may not be a bother, etc., so it's understandable to see why they're purchasing. However to those whom have purchased & still want a consistent fullscreen release should still send a letter a FUNimation cause I feel that'll make FUNimation aware of those interested in the full screen & maybe they'll cave in to full screen releases in the future.

Harsh fact is, is that those of us who want full screen releases are in the minority when compared to the number of casual fans in the US (thus hence Corey's idea of writing letters to FUNi), which is exactly why we should make ourselves aware to FUNi & additional support from casual fans wouldn't hurt either. For example, despite Deus's review, I still think he should send the letter (maybe altering a bit like other members) making it aware to FUNi that there are still fans interested in full screen releases.

I, like some, will hold off on the releases & wait to see what happens in the future.

You're not the only one, bro. I'm behind you all the way! Not touching this set with a 10ft pole! It truly saddens me to see so many people caving in, especially those that initially stated they would boycott the release and then changed their minds....*ARGGGH*....talk about hypocrisy in the highest order.

I seriously hope someone at Bandai or ADV is monitoring this fiasco and that one day they'll buy the license from FUNI and do DBZ the right way! What are the chances?

*EDIT*...And guys, one more thing....

I honestly think writing even a paper printed letter to Funi is a waste of time. To be totally frank, I honestly and truly believe they did this widescreen thing DELIBERATELY and out malicious intentions, just to piss off the fans. I would not waste any time with those letters. The guys at Funimation TRULY do not give a shit.

Think of it like Bruce Lee movies. We couldn't get them by some unknown distributor for less than $5 until 35 years after he died...

So, I'm guessing it won't happen until 10 years or so until after FUNi's HD 1080p releases see boxsets.

In other words, us fullscreeners are fucked ;)

Sheesh Nathan, ever thought some of us are buying this and actually enjoying it? You're acting like we're buying a disgrace to DBZ releases, when that couldn't be further from the truth (though FUNimation's ideas for advertising this was a disgrace). How about you stop telling people what to do, considering your opinions are based entirely off of screen-caps, you hardly have room to talk. Either give the release a shot or boycott and/or send a letter, there's no need to downgrade a person for their choice of spending money.

Just got mine today, at HMV, didn't have time to check anywhere else, for I was in a hurry as well with other errands. I purchased it for 38.99, not a hard impact to my wallet, but what the hey, I envy those of you who got this set for 30 dollars or lower.

So here we go, a quick review of What I've seen so far.

Positive Opinions:

In all honesty, the widescreen footage did not bother me as much as I thought it would. Secondly, the footage is clean and crisp, and I've got to say the colors look fantastic. This is a great improvement on FUNimation's part. Now about the audio, mm..what can I say? Orgasmic it was.

Negative Opinions:

Packaging. It's well, nicely put together, but the artwork design for the set? God awful is what it is, although I do respect FUNimation for using the art from Japan for the cover. But, come on, are they blind?
The Menu screens are just as horrible. They make me cringe everytime I stare at it. Also, the booklet that is included along with this set is pitiful.

Anticipations:

Hopefully FUNimation will be re-releasing these sets with much more attractive cover artwork, as well as putting the footage in full-screen. My greatest hope is that they'll have an english voice track with original japanese music option for the films, as well as DBGT

Wow. Real mature.

You've already made your stance on the widescreen sets clear. No need to berate the rest of us who chose to buy it.

Me, personally, I bought it even knowing about the widescreen issue (it doesn't bother me) and the fact that I felt like I was getting a good deal for the set. ($32 ain't bad.)

Hm... on second thought... I don't even know why I'm explaining myself to you. I buy DBZ stuff that I like, plain and simple. You do whatever you want. I'm not complaining about what the rest of you do. If it bothers you, just go ahead and do your petitions and letters and whatnot and ignore the rest of us who buy the sets.

What would be good is if FUNi decides to put a fullscreen box release alongside with the future widescreen sets, like many Hollywood movie releases. Or even put the fullscreen version on the flipside of the disc (like some "flipper" DVDs that contain different versions on each side of the disc.) Even if it's just the old 4:3 TV masters they've used for years. I think that would be the way to please the overall majority of fans.

Either way, I still plan on buying every single season set released. Becuase I like the product, video, audio, and the price as is. Plan and simple.

iId have to say i agree with that.

Now i did also cave in and buy the sets. But honestly, I had an old Best Buy gift card, and this set was only 30 bucks, can you blame me?
I won't go into too many details since we have plenty of reviews here, but i'll say it's a but better than i expected. I didn't notice the widescreen as much, but at some points, it really is noticeable at how shitty the cropping is. Another thing I didn't like, and I can't remember if this has been discussed, is that I'm getting the dub themesong insted of Cha-La Head Cha-La when I put the Japanese audio on the dub. Can somebody tell me why? :?

I didnt notice the cropping at all, I was too distracted by the pretty image quality, and the epic BGM.
