Sooo...I just essentially trapped myself into an endless mess of leveling now. Got Elder Kai ready to teach me the Unlocked Potential technique, but he can't teach it to me until I'm level 93...I'm level 86 (though getting close-ish to being level 87). So since he always wants to talk about that, I'm blocked out from his RNG dialogue right now.

...Well. This is gonna be a fun spamming of certain Quests for a while.

I feel your pain. I Was in your exact scenario not too long ago

If you haven't already done so, use a wish from Shenron to give you a free level up. Once only though, I learned that the hard way and got my hopes up for nothing.
Also I recommend spamming Return of the Great Ape Fest. Takes a bit long (around 5min per go) but with Z rank + Ultimate finish is a decent 110k. Almost 140k with those bonus events

That's exactly what I was working on doing right now, was getting the Dragon Balls to waste a wish on leveling up, yeah. Wait, so does it only work once then? ...I don't think I've ever done that particular wish before...

And yeah, that's the one I'll be spamming. I found a fairly good way to burn through that one even faster, but still such a pain, and even the high amount of EXP you get really is just a chip away at a time with how much it seems to take to get leveled up once you hit the higher levels. It's maddening. There's not any clothing items or Z-souls that also give an exp boost are there? I'm really wishing there was some kind of cheap way to boost EXP even higher, like there is in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth that I just beat recently. With a particular Digimon on your team, and equipping said certain Digimon with EXP boosting items, and having three of said Digimon each equipped with three of said items - well, you're able to level up another Digimon from like 1 to 65 in one fight. Now that's what I need here!

Return of Great Ape can be done inside of 3min. Max strike supers and use Blue Tornado right on top of them. Done right it can drop a Great Ape in one go. Two if they're feeling spry. But it is literally the most optimal move against any Great Ape and wrecks them something fierce. More so than any other move. It's the easiest and fastest way to drop them.

I've put a lot of hours into this game but never bothered getting a character up to level 99.

I mean, if you don't play a lot of PvP then what's the point? I don't find grinding the great ape mission 5000 times entertaining when there's no real payoff in the end.

Hopefully XV2 will have more PvE content beyond just grinding PQs to make your build for PvP. Even just an offline tournament mode would add life to the game.

Also, anyone else find them self occasionally just wiping their save and starting over? I don't like this 'all your characters share story progress and inventory' thing. After your first character beats the story and gets all the skills for their build the only thing for subsequent characters to do is grind XP.

Yup, that's exactly what I'm doing. It's far easier to get the Dragon Balls again than it used to be seemingly, so I've created a temporary build with my main character consisting of a fully maxed out Strike Supers, with enough remaining points left over to give a decent boost to health, ki, and basic attacks. This is allowing me to pretty thoroughly wreck the Apes, as well as handily beating a Time Patroller when/if they appear as well, all in like 2, 3 minutes tops. It's still a long, slow grind, and I would be bored to death if I wasn't doing other things at the same time like watching videos on Youtube, but it's by far the most manageable thing I've figured out yet.

Probably will not bother doing this trick to get to Lv. 99 at least not yet though. I just want to freakin' finish the training with Elder Kai, and then I can get back to trying to make all other skills and outfit pieces drop.

Xenoverse is on offer on Steam right now for £13.59 or £22.79 with all the DLC so I figured I'd snatch it up to try out the mods and also for recording purposes (Screw you PS4 and your blocked scenes)

EDIT

I guess in recent updates it's been changed. Now you go to Settings->Notifications->Blocked Scenes for Video Recording.

It's been a while since I've used my PS4.

Forgot to post about it, but after way too long spent killing way too many Oozaru, I finally got my main to 93 and was able to complete Elder Kai's training...and I gotta say, immediately going to Lv. 95 after that almost felt cruel actually.

That completed all the training though, I've maxed all mentors, woohoo! As far as stuff to do in the game goes, I've just got to finish getting all the skills I'm missing, and then even more painfully, all the outfit pieces...there's a few of both of those that will require Dragon Ball wishes too. I suppose I could try to get all of the Z Souls I'm missing too, but eh...not really worth the trouble. I'll lump that in with 'Z ranking every mission' under 'things that would sure be neat to do but I'm not about to try'. :P

Sorry for the double post, but uh...got a couple of questions (well, one question really, but brought on by two different instances) about the ever beloved RNG again.

I'm working on a slow grind through to get all the missing skills I need. As expected, it's a toss up between 'easy' and 'dear god why' due to the aforementioned RNG. I've kept Elder Kai as my mentor to try and get him to at least give me decent better chances at getting the skills I need, but apparently even that is a crapshoot. I was working on getting 'Burst Rush' earlier, and twice he gave me the 'Golden Fruit' prediction which should by all means mean I get it. One time, it gave me a Z-Soul I was missing - okay, fair enough. Second time though, I got nothing unique, just cash, exp, and some kind of capsule I already had a bunch of. So...not even his prediction is 100%, I'm guessing? It finally did drop on a third go-around (third for this time, I'd been working on that particular mission last week too), but yeesh.

On the flip side, I now moved on to a different PQ where there were three different skills I needed. He gave me the Golden Fruit prediction that time too, so I went in thinking 'well, surely I'll get at least one of them'. And I did. I got all four of the - ...four? Imagine my surprise when I look and see I've somehow unlocked 'Innocence Cannon' twofold. I...don't think there's a way to sell excess skills. As far as I knew you couldn't even get excess skills. So...yeah?

You may've figured it out by now but yup you're right even with the golden fruit prediction which significantly increases your chances, it isn't 100% unfortunately. Making the grind a even greater pain in the ass as it is :\. I was in the same boat about a year ago, he wanted to teach me unlock potential locking me out of the predictions, forcing me to miserably grind great ape fest until I was a certain level to get my predictions back...truly horrible. Just keep on trying and pray the RNG gods will hopefully bless you and you'll get 'em eventually. If I remember correctly sometimes it doesn't even have to be a golden fruit prediction, the second best prediction helped me get certain skills the golden fruit prediction wasn't giving me for some reason.

You are a brave soul if you decide to get all the z-souls and outfits, I considered the same thing like I.E creating different characters and getting them to 99 but after I got my platinum trophy ... I figured it's best not to for my sanity's sake lol so I binned it and never looked back. :)

Yeah getting All the Z-Souls and outfits was a pain. When I picked up the game again on PC I just modded everything I wanted into the game because screw grinding all over again.

Oh and here's a lol something I threw together over the weekend

The first game was announced on Fri May 16, 2014. So I hope we will get a sequel announcement very soon.

Oh yeah, I have definitely since realized that it's a horribly evil and uneven grindfest no matter what you do. It's not as bad as it was when the game first came out though, doesn't feel like, so I feel like they've done some patching to at least make it relatively livable too. When it first came out, I essentially played through everything and didn't stop until a good while after the last DLC pack came out, so...yeah. The large number of things left for me to get is evidence of how bad droprates were then. *shudder*

There is no way I'm trying for all the Z-souls (the only way I'd ever bother with that is if we really didn't get a sequel and this remained my new go-to DB game for a long, long time or something), but I do want all the outfit pieces. The really scary part on that one is I might actually need multiples of some of those, cuz I want to have various unique and fitting outfits for my other characters...so that's gonna be fun.

Oh don't worry, even if you didn't want to, you will have multiple pieces across every outfit.
