Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
They got them in FUNimation's Dragon Ball dub.Wezenheim wrote:I do find it especially interesting because when Super gets dubbed in America, that means that Arale and the rest of the Dr. Slump cast will actually have English voices (outside of Arale's voice in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, I don't think they've had any). It might not go anywhere, but it'd be cool to give Funimation extra tools to maybe possibly bring the Dr. Slump anime to the states.
Definitely not intended as long-term casting decisions at the time though.
Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
Uh... most of the Slump cast appears in the Red Ribbon arc, which FUNimation dubbed. Linda Young(Freeza) was Arale(?!), Brice Armstrong(Narrator) was Senbei, and Laura Bailey(others) was Akane. I don't know about the rest, but they all definitely had English voices in the English dub of Dragon Ball Episode 56.Wezenheim wrote:I do find it especially interesting because when Super gets dubbed in America, that means that Arale and the rest of the Dr. Slump cast will actually have English voices (outside of Arale's voice in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, I don't think they've had any).
The question is, are those same actors coming back? My guess is probably not. Arale was played by Brina Palencia in BT3, who is currently Chaozu and Puer, so she is probably going to do it again. If Senbei shows up, that'll be interesting to see who they get since Armstrong is retired. And of course, who on Earth would do Senbei in Japanese with Kenji Utsumi gone...
I just finished the Penguin Village eps on my re-watch of the show. The timing of all this is really cool. If more of the Slump cast beyond Arale shows up, I hope it's their original actors. I like what Kazuko Sugiyama does with Akane.
And, uh, honestly, the only way I see Dr. Slump making any lasting impact in the west at this rate, is if Toei makes Dr. Slump Super and it gets an Osomatsu-san-esque fervor of a following. The original show is too old for anyone who isn't a curious DB fan to care.

Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
Me and my brother are currently reading through Dr. Slump, so we are psyched for this! My brother thinks Arale could become a main character in Super, but I don't think that would work that well. The Slump world abd Dragon world are too different for that to work. But I would love it if she became a bit of a recurring character, much like the Pilaf gang has become.

I've watched everything dubbed, and all of GT, Super, the movies and specials, and half of Original Dragon Ball subbed. I've also read through the whole manga and Dr. Slump. Will watch all of Z subbed once I collect the last three Dragon Boxes.

If this somehow leads to them finally bringing us either or both anime series, I will die happy. I mean, I know it almost definately would never happen... but then again, people said the same thing about a new Dragon Ball TV series...Wezenheim wrote:I do find it especially interesting because when Super gets dubbed in America, that means that Arale and the rest of the Dr. Slump cast will actually have English voices (outside of Arale's voice in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, I don't think they've had any). Whoops. I drew a blank there. Today has not been all that kind to me, I apologize! I myself dont know if the old cast will return.
I literally forgot about Funimation dubbing the entirety of Dragon Ball. I haven't watched the dub of Dragon Ball much at all, but that's still silly of me. Hah, never gonna let myself live that one down.

Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
I like Arale; I'm happy to see her return, even if only for an episode. She's a fun character. If she's in the same episode as Pilaf Gang, she's probably going to be accidentally foiling their plans. I wonder if she and Gokû will recognize each other.
Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
Yes, I agree there. Arale wouldn't be powerful enough to compete against the extremely powerful villains of the series.ther2view wrote:Me and my brother are currently reading through Dr. Slump, so we are psyched for this! Most likely Arale would only have a one time appearance in Super. However, it would be awesome if she somehow became apart of the main cast. She could help the Z-Fighters locate the last Super Dragon Ball. Being an android she would not suffer from being in outer space like the human characters would.
Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
...here's a thought. The picture doesn't show Tesshō Genda, who plays Shu. What if the Pilaf gang return, but fired Shu for some reason or other, and hired Arale as a replacement, who thinks it's all a game or something. Then, when she finds out they're bad guys... well, I think you see what I'm saying.Chuquita wrote:I like Arale; I'm happy to see her return, even if only for an episode. She's a fun character. Anything that give Dr Slump more recognition of any kind is fine by me. Arale is a wonderfully charming character and I can't wait to see how she interacts with the rest of the cast.

Arale may be an ageless android, but won't the rest of the cast be super old by now? It's been like 50 years since the red ribbon arc.

The thread has spoiler in the title, and the news is on the front page of the site. I think you're overreactingsuccessoroffate wrote:Not Cool, I'm sorry but you pretty much ruined tomorrow's episode.

Hey, if Arale-chan can return for an episode, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until Lunch returns.LordCrumb wrote:Damn, when I saw the thread title i was totally like "Launch! yay!".. then I read and was like "booooo"
It's not about tomorrow's episode, it's about the May 15th episode. Plus, the previously stated Spoilers tag and post on the front page.successoroffate wrote:Not Cool, I'm sorry but you pretty much ruined tomorrow's episode.

Re: SPOILERS Really happy certain character returns in Super
I can't remember the character's name (I want to say Tsun, or Chun, or something?), but the martial artist kid from China (that I believe is Akane's boyfriend?) was Justin Cook (Raditz/Super Boo/older Dende) I want to say.B wrote:Uh... most of the Slump cast appears in the Red Ribbon arc, which FUNimation dubbed. I don't know about the rest, but they all definitely had English voices in the English dub of Dragon Ball Episode 56.
As far as for who, if any, of the former Slump actors from DB's dub come back...I'd say there's a pretty good chance Brina would reprise Arale, and I'm more than okay with that, as I really liked her take in the game. It was certainly far more fitting than either voice Arale had been given by FUNimation before. And as much as I like Brice Armstrong and miss him working for FUNi, I never really cared much for his Senbei. I'm not really sure who I'd want to play him now though...hmm. Laura Bailey could probably reprise Akane easily enough, presuming she would still be coming back as Kid Trunks.
