Thanks! I don't know what I would do if it weren't for people telling me how best to show my support as a fan of something. Man, and I've been calling myself a fan for over a decade now. Jesus, what's been wrong with me...raf235 wrote: And you guys call yourself DBZ fans. just buy the dragonbox or don't buy anything at all.
Here's the deal. Some of us actually like, despite some HEAVY flaws, the new boxed set. The quality of the picture ain't as bad some are making it out to be (Hell, I think it looks great), and it's nice that I can actually have a ton of DBZ episodes on DVD sitting in my collection. Does the cropping suck? Well, of course it does. But for me, and the looks of it a lot of other people, the pros out weigh the cons.
YOU don't like it? Great! Don't buy it. But don't presume to tell people that they aren't fans just because they are buying the product that is readily available to them. YOU buy the Dragon Box or nothing at all. YOU be as hardcore as you want. Me? Well, don't you worry about that.
Of course everyone can buy crap if they want to. It's your money. But the problem is if you buy crap, Funi will release the rest of the crap. because they think, they are doing something wonderful. And do you think they are going to stop here? in a few years they're probably going to release dbz again. And this time they are going to call it "DBZ the really, really uncut version". And than people like you are going to buy it again. stop supporting Funi and sign the petition if you haven't already done it. the choice is yours.simon_winter wrote:Thanks! it's about time they release DBZ perfect. DBZ deserves to be released in a perfect way.
Why sign the petition? It is pretty useless. If you want to be so fucking hardcore, write a letter and send it off! And if I liked the set and could buy it, I would, it is a pretty good set, the cons still outweight the pros for me(it is just me, don't kill me) but if it was the other way around, buying it would be okay for me too. I also want the fullscreen set, doesn't mean that if I buy this set, it means that I am supporting them, it means that I just want to watch it and maybe laugh at it. Man, the only thing I hate more about Manga purist is anime purist.raf235 wrote: Of course everyone can buy crap if they want to. It's your money. Lol'ed.

And by god I will fight your right to argue thatsimon_winter wrote:The quality of the picture ain't as bad some are making it out to be (Hell, I think it looks great), and it's nice that I can actually have a ton of DBZ episodes on DVD sitting in my collection. SPECIFICALLY that
That it looks great...to you.
Because by every standard that anyone who has any idea how animation should look on DVD, or has any knowledge of what the 'remastering' process they did does to animation, they fucking murdered the video.
Arguing it looks good to YOU, I'll back you up on that, but the instant someone starts saying that it 'looks great' or any other argument, then they clearly haven't really looked, and considering most people are comparing it to years old Pioneer disks and TV airrings, it isn't a comparison they can make because they've never seen even a HALF decent print.
No, I'm not crazy, I dont expect Funi to actually properly remaster every episode when almost every episode already got an uncut release, Toei had the advantage of no commercial release of the episodes. But Funi talked about remastering it frame by frame, which clearly is NOT true. (And yeah, it's a dirt cheap release, but they still fucking claimed it.)

I assure you it's not. My setup is:masenko wrote:To jump back on topic here...
Did anyone attempt to watch the set upscaled to HD on a using an HDMI dvd player? I mean, maybe that is the Earth Shattering Orgasm we've been waiting for?
Pioneer Premier 43" PRO-910HD
Oppo OPDV971H (set to upconvert to 720p via DVI-HDMI connection)
All calibrated to reference levels, and the set still appears to be a bit too bright with oversaturated colors.

Okay, we all agree that FUNi lied. How much more are we going to argue about who is right and who is wrong? Don't tell others how to spend their money and if you don't like the way the new sets look/sound/feel...whatever, just don't buy the damn things. If you read the name of this Board, its General Discussion, not General Bitching.
By the way, I can't wait to buy the new season set.

Sad to hear that. I don't mind the colors as much as the clarity. Is the picture at least sharp and clear, or is there still tons of blurriness and grain?MajinVejitaXV wrote:I assure you it's not. My setup is:masenko wrote:To jump back on topic here...

Oh, the grain is gone. They ran the video stream through so much DVNR that a good deal of detail is gone and the show sometimes looks like a pastel painting (which is a bad thing).masenko wrote:Sad to hear that. I am happy with this release thank you.

I have it upscaled to 1080p via blu-ray player on my 60in Samsung DLP 1080p display, and it looks great. I'll agree with Corey that it does look bright, but it's best format to which i've seen DBZ ever.masenko wrote:To jump back on topic here...

I don't think any channel would show this widescreen mess up on t.v airwaves again, but if they did it would possibly air on Adult Swim... since the show Trinity Blood is shown in letterbox format all the time.masenko wrote:I'm glad to see we are finally getting back to business here. On a new note, I'm hoping this new DVD release will spur someone to put this show back on the t.v. airwaves daily. They can even present it in letterbox! Yay!
That would be nice. It would be nicer if they used the new English with Japanese BGM, instead of the original dub with Faulconer score.masenko wrote:I'm glad to see we are finally getting back to business here. I'm assuming Trinity Blood is a fairly new show. (Never seen it myself actually.) But if it is, I'm sure that it's not cropped, instead animated in widescreen.Gokuden553 wrote:I don't think any channel would show this widescreen mess up on t.v airwaves again, but if they did it would possibly air on Adult Swim... since the show Trinity Blood is shown in letterbox format all the time.

The real test of how good the new box sets are will be seen when the third set is released. Only then do we get into episodes that have already been released in the US. People bitch about buying DragonBox singles (which I personally am doing), but that's not for everyone. For those people not getting Dbox singles, lets wait and see what happens if they buy the Freeza Saga a second time just to have it in widescreen/new voice-overs. What will those individuals do then?simon_winter wrote:Some of us actually like, despite some HEAVY flaws, the new boxed set.
The real test won't begin until that happens.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
DB DBox color corrections & DBox color corrections.
