PAL is only in Europe, Australia and parts of Africa and Asia. All of the older (last generation) consoles are region locked meaning that you need to mod them or buy that regions console to play their games.

And even then, NTSC games work on PAL TVs (I should know, I've imported a number of japanese games across a variety of consoles), so the other way around should go as well.

It actually depends on the refresh rate and the type of television.

NTSC Japanese games can't be played on North American consoles, right?
Just curious

Not without bypassing the region locks. You'll need a modchip or a disc swap.

Get a Freeloader for your Gamecube. Most import-friendly console ever.

Not a huge Nintendo person, but that's one definite plus I'll give them. Too bad they pulled progressive scan support. Guess I should be glad that I baby my electronics and my original PSX still works after ten years (I'm sure my Genesis would too after 14, had I not sold it).

Yes and no. XD My Saturn didn't bother to change the signal to PAL, so I got the import games all letterboxed, but, that honestly is no different from half of the PAL conversions for that system (and several systems before AND after it) anyway.
