BOG and especially ROF were 2 movies that a lot of people wanted to flop. In the end, both were a huge success.
Kai is also not that loved on Internet by the old fanbase. And couldn't be doing better in Toonami ratings.
They just need to advertised it well.
Truth is, Super becomes more enjoyable if you know that Dragon Ball is not only DBZ, and the stoy started 153 episodes before it.
Definitely this.
People said Kai wouldn't do well and yet the ratings have been pretty good. ROF is loathed by a lot of people here yet it was a major success.
Like you said as long as Super is advertised well I can see it doing fine.

Give me a break. The internet said the same thing about Kai and that garnered the best ratings Toonami has ever gotten since it relaunched.
To be frank I don't know why kai garnered the criticism it did. It was a worthwhile adaptation that was very enjoyable when the subs came out weekly, even if manga purists shit all over it. It's not the same with super, it's simply a horrible show and I'm pretty sure the west will be less forgiving. I'd be willing to do a ban bet on it.

I wouldn't be so sure mate gt back then sucked but still do good ratings for toonami also its dragon ball even if super is mediocre piece of shit it will still bring major ratings for toonami if kai got good rating then super will do to.
I swear that when Kai aired on Nicktoons it garnered a pretty good young fanbase for the series? I wonder if they could market Super to that group seeing as they might have gone on to become Dragon Ball fans.

Kai on Nicktoons was a huge hit. So much so, that Nicktoons were desperate to hold on to the TV rights they had for Kai before it expired.

I'd much rather it get broadcast on Nicktoons or some other children's block to have a history with Dragon Ball, although as I understand it that's not very likely.
It's unfair to compare Kai with Super. The people hating on it either hated on it cause it didn't have Faulconer, some of the voices were different, or Nicktoon's censorship, which had nothing to do with the show itself. So basically, some people expected DBZ copied + pasted. Despite this, it's the same story, only with refined dialogue, so naturally, it's successful whereever it airs.
People hate on Super cause it's a flat out bad show in almost every category, from characterizations to animation to battles to art to tone to music and so on.
Will it be successful if it replaces Kai's slot? Of course. Any decent shonen show will. Will it be as successful as Kai? Probably not. I'd prefer to see a dub of the Final Chapters over this travesty.

Unlike Kai, which is pretty much just DBZ again to your casual fans, Super will be 'new DBZ'. So yeah, I can see it doing pretty well on Toonami. The first two arcs, admittedly, might be a bit of a struggle though, depending on how many of said fans have already seen the latest movies or not.

I'd be all for that too, of heck, even both. Air an "edited" version (wherever edits might be needed) on Cartoon Network, or Nicktoons, or wherever, and then air the uncut version on Toonami.

If they start with Champa arc, I'd be surprised if it didn't do well. SSJ Blue with Kaioken with Sean Schemmel screaming? With BoG arc, I can see it doing OK, but I feel like a lot of people will give up during the shitty Goku/Freeza fight, and not even get to the best part.

How do they air this in the US? Is it weekly? Daily?

I am a huge fan of Super, but it won't ever become the new DBZ. DBZ was more than anime when it aired, it was a global mainstream TV show. It was more mainstream than all anime combined. Tons of people who watched DBZ were not even familiar with anime in general. Super isn't bad but it can't be DBZ.
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?
Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

You misunderstood me, I think. I'm not trying to imply that Super will become a huge hit in-of-itself the way DBZ was, but for most casual watchers, I would guess 'brand new material' would be a lot more intriguing than 'here's the same old thing again only not really' like Kai.

I'm conflicted... On one hand I personally think it's a god awful show that simply won't survive the scrutiny of the general public but then again... the general public have a tendency to be pretty fucking stupid at times so who knows, maybe they'll just eat it up and not think about what they're watching.
At the very least the regurgitated BOG and ROF arcs will lose ratings, people who've only seen those movies once will probably think "hold on... haven't I seen this already?" and probably switch channels.
From what I've seen of the post Freeza material it isn't good enough to save Super, the show offers nothing interesting in terms of story to really keep people hooked.

I'm referring to the people I've seen hating on it online. I guess I'm included in that list. *shrug*
But hey, I never said it'd do poorly on Toonami, just not as well as Kai. I might very well be proven wrong. We'll see, eventually. I maintain, I would rather have the Final Chapters dub over this.

Funimation said at A-Kon 2015 that they want Super's dub to be perfect as possible. A longer wait won't be a bad thing since they can take their time to dub the show instead of rushing it to catch up with the Japanese episodes.
According to a Toonami Pre-Flight episode lost to the ages, it isn't a sure thing that Super will air on Toonami because you bet your ass other networks will be after it.
Dragonball GT was a ratings juggernaut for Nicktoons, and that's GT.
