The Japanese audio...how long did it take to get?

So, I've become interested in how exactly the licensing & distribution of this stuff works, mainly because I am pro-dub (larger audience= more diversity, & more money in company hands), & Christopher Sabat has been notoriously open about not having the Japanese audio for recording. Obviously, this wasn't an issue for the DVD releases, but anyhow...

..How did we get Japanese audio references, how much relation was there with Toei &/or Shueisha (a la the extremely heavy supervision for the Naruto auditions), & how much connection was there overall?

Between the Harmony Gold LA dub, the Final Bout dub, the Saban dub, the Geneon/Pioneer dub, the FUNimation dub, the Westwood dub, the Blue Water dub, the Kai dub?

So, I tweeted Wendee Lee about the Harmony Gold dub..Jury's out, there.

- Final Bout, Steven Blum confirms as "match the Japanese as close as possible". Similarly for the Pioneer movie dubs. The Saban dub, Drummond just "made up a voice", no reference.

- FUNimation dub was similar, though I'm not sure how exactly they switched over. Sabat says the intro was Budokai, Schemmel says Budokai 3.

(Sabat makes a special exception with FUNimation to cast as closely to the Japanese that he can, & he rather admirably has shifted his OWN performance to match the much lighter Ryo Horikawa & Toru Furuya.)& Toei LOVES their movie dubs.


Obviously, I am not well-versed in this, & this whole history could be delineated on better by a fan of the franchise[/b ]Anyone? It's an interesting discussion.
