It's not an insert song, though. It's part of Kikuchi Shunsuke's score, so that's definitely a little strange. Also, has it been pulled from both episodes 27 and 28, or is it that maybe it got deleted off the foreign track for one of the episodes by accident (as Conan suggested)? If someone could check that would definitely clear up the question of whether it's a licensing issue or not.

Episode 27 - Piccolo gets blasted, episode finale.
Episode 28 - Piccolo dies, about 7 minutes in.

Also, if someone has FUNi's Sleeping Princess DVD lying around, they should check the dub track for the original debut of the song. It appears about 23 minutes in, when Lucifer takes Bulma into that big room full of monsters. I'm sure the song also appears a couple times in the original DB TV series, I'm just not sure when.

That's really strange. In the Italian dub this track isn't there as well. I watched the episode in Italian and then "W...what the?! Wait, where is this cool BGM?!"...

However, in the other European dubs (from AB Groupe) there is this BGM.

The track consists of vocals and instruments. It appears that in the Dub version, only the instrumental part is present while the Japanese track has both. Maybe FUNi has something against vocals during episodes?

Maybe FUNi got that episode with a "locked" japanese voice and music track and couldn't work around it.

This is FUNimation, we should always expect the weirdest of the weird with them...

Well, folks, I've made my decision. I'm gonna pick this set up. I still have a $35 Best Buy card from Christmas, so I think I'll use that.

I know I had already sent the letter and all, but... what the hell. After reading different reactions, and seeing a couple clips, the cons of the set don't bother me at all.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I didnt feel like reading 50 pages.

After watching the first 4 episodes, I noticed the picture jumps around a lot. Mostly during fight scenes or quick camera jumps. Tell me I'm not the only one that noticed this.

And how exactly is this a revised script? A lot of Ocean Group's lines were left in.

That's always happened. FUNimation can't fix it.

Eh, that's more of a Video Post & Transfer (the company that did the remastering) shortcoming. They could have fixed it digitally, since many other animes that were truly remastered have.

The shaky footage thing? Sure they do. Almost all of the older animes will have shaky footage. It's got something to do with the photography of the cells and how they were aligned. You don't see it in newer animes because mostly everything new is digitally animated.

Kanzentai.com (who put it better than I could) wrote:Remastering
Since the source material is the original cel photography, the picture is already as pristine as it will ever be. However, as with any film, it is bound to suffer some damage. Pony Canyon has taken the time to carefully remove all damage from the film, presenting us with a perfectly clean picture, yet never compromising the integrity of the actual animation. On top of this, since they have gone back to the 16mm films, they can create an all-new frame alignment!

When making the original masters for a series, it is typical to copy the film while slightly zoomed-in. This reduces the risk of catching the edge of a misaligned cel (ie. seeing the edge of the image). However, with time, money and new digital technology on their side, Pony Canyon has created a new print that captures more image than the original masters. In some cases this actually meant re-aligning some of the frames, which not only allowed for a larger image surface, but also greatly reduced all former traces of jitter!

Not quite. Look at the Evangelion Platinum/Renewal discs. Same thing, by going back and using lots of new digital toys and the original masters, they were able to greatly reduce if not eliminate that jitter. It's extremely evident if you compare the older releases to the newer ones.

Oh neat, a commercial on TV.
Too bad they mispronounced Vegeta.
Oh well, I don't think it was actually a commercial by Funimation, so it's okay

So I was just thinking...we have all been reviewing and disputing the presentation of the new sets but how about the actual material? I mean this is the first time some of us are seeing these episodes. What do you think of 1-39?

I for one love the first few episodes but the filler really pisses me off after that. Gohan's training is very well done in the filler but Goku's snake way journey is extremely drawn out. The episodes seem to follow a path...Gohan sleeps, pees, learns a life lesson, Goku keeps running, The Saiyans are on their way!, that's the formula for about 5 entire episodes.

Well, I'm actually watching these episodes from the set in order, and I've gotta say that I also liked Gohan's filler. As for Goku's travel to Kaio... well, I still remember them from the old FUNi dub days, but I wouldn't call them my favorite.

And yeah, Gohan does seem to pee right before learning some life lesson. And they must have re-used the footage of Vegeta and Nappa "hibernating" in their space pods for every filler episode for that Saga :?.

And for a taste of me review for the set: Each episode I've seen so far is very clear and bright as well as watchable. The only instance that lasted more than one second that annoyed me would be Gohan's lafe bandage thing being too close to the bottom screen when showing it to the brontosaurus.

Well, these episodes hooked me on DBZ. I had seen part of DB previously (the ancient Ocean dub), but while I was dazed by the quick gear-change I came to appreciate it quickly. Filler is there, but it's not too horrible (nowhere near as bad as it would get with Fake Namek, Bulma's Misadventures and Kaiosama recaping the Goku v. Freeza fight every single episode near the end of said story arc).

The balance of humor and fighting was still there (to this day, I love Kuririn accusing Piccolo of wanted to eat Gohan and his reaction), and the fights still had some thought put into them (something I had issue with at some points later on, depending on the animation team).

All in all, I loved these episodes. Too bad the next set will get off to such a weak start though.

That was entirely my point. I've only seen Evangelion dubbed and on TV, and it was shaky as hell. I'm sure that the new DVD's look really good, but my point is, can the shakiness be entirely eliminated? I have the movies Dragon Box and it's quite shaky as well, though not as much as other versions of the movies that I've seen before.

I've seen up until episode 20 and a lot of the episodes really annoyed the hell out of me. I was surprised at the amount of filler that was plugged into the Saiyan arc. I mean, Gohan running around with a bunch of orphans?! WTF?! At least I killed sometime in the boring existence that I call a life. (God I need a job.)

Really? I haven't watched the box cover-to-cover yet, can you point out a part or two? I typically pick up on that stuff, and while I've only watched about 5 of the movies so far, I don't remember anything bugging me like the old EVA releases/new DBZ set.
