DBZ Season 1 - High quality clips!

Post by Castor Troy » Sat Feb 10, 2007 12:39 am

It took me all day, but I finally got around to making a few clips from the Season 1 set. These are all in high quality xvid files at 848 x 480 resolution. I decided to make them that big so you can spot quite a few of the problems in the video much easier than watching a compressed youtube video.

The clips are free to use for whatever you want. I won't clutter my youtube account with them so feel free to upload them to your own youtube accounts. I also want to test out my new server so let me know if the clips work and how fast the download speed is. I'll probably keep them up for a week or a little more, but I'm sure the server can handle them.

PLEASE RIGHT CLICK AND SAVE AS

DBZ Intro 90210 :P - The DBZ logo along with the katakana in the yellow circles looks really cropped and much worse on an actual widescreen TV..
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... _Intro.avi

Episode 22 recap - You get to hear Kyle Hebert's voice with the Prologue and Subtitle I music playing. I ended up ripping the 2nd angle by accident so the japanese title is showing.

Gohan vs. Vegeta
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... vegeta.avi

Goku vs. Vegeta Part 1
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... vegeta.avi

Goku vs. Vegeta Part 2

Nappa begins the attack on Piccolo

Over 9000, the dub with the japanese music
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... er9000.avi

Piccolo's Death - You can notice the omitted holy choir music after Piccolo dies..
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... lodies.avi

Tenshinhan's last memories of Chaozu - There was no dialouge in the japanese version, but I think FUNi did a good thing and re-inserted their previous DB recorings to help the scene..
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... mories.avi

Goku begs to spare Vegeta's life - One of the most powerful scenes in the series and the music makes a huge difference in how the scene is played even if the dub dialogue isn't 100% correct.
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... etaend.avi

New and possibly final clips..

Nappa Foaming at the Mouth - If you look at his eyes closely, it looks like his eyes are watering in joy!
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... oaming.avi

Raditz kicks Goku so hard that the Japanese film master breaks - It goes REALLY fast, but it's still noticeable. Put the clip into something like virtualdub and look at it one frame at a time. You'll notice that the actual film broke in 2 and it looks pretty nasty...
http://www.vg-projects.com/castor/movie ... tzkick.avi

Well, those are gonna be the final clips for now. Enjoy!... or not..

Make sure you're on broadband since these are quite big..

I'm downloading one of the clips right now, and it's going nice. About a megabyte (or half that) per second. 15% right now =)

And just a note, these are all English dialogue with Japanese BGM? Just wondering.

I'm getting about 1.8 mb per sec from the server. :)

Yeah, they're all the dub in japanese music.

Funny, I just took a look at my downloads and it said 134 kpbs per second.
Whatever.

Still, it's pretty fast. 70% right now.

Well, the download's finally finished =)

The video itself is pretty big and it looks nice. The cropping does give it an awkard feel, although if anything it's better than nothing. Still, their remastering is pretty good if not perfect (I saw a few of those 'chilli peppers' in that opening vid, and there are a lot of artifacts in that one too). But yeah, it's cool.

But these are great clips, Castor. Thank you.

I got about 700kbps. Very nice. I liked the quality of the clips, very crisp and clear.

I wasn't a big fan of that. The voices, to me, were quite distracting to the music, which in my opinion, is what made that scene.

Where can I find that music played during Goku's speech? Is that one the new 3 CD set?

Very nice, using vlc I can make the clips fill up the entire comp. screen. and I must say the video looks much better with no black bars. Though like always the annoying dirt and grain is noticable if you pay attention hard enough. Also I like the color no more saturation anymore. anyway thanks for the clips I look forward to more

Jeez... even after watching these clips, the definitive word for this "project" was "Cinematic"... it's really evident, with all of the cropping, the nasty little artifacts EVERYWHERE... and even the jittery picture.

And something is just wierd with the color... the sky being blue during the Goku/Vegeta scenes was just wierd, and the skin tone was TOO white...

*sigh*

Wow, you should be rewarded for all these clips. If I didn't have my season set already I would worship you.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Although, isn't the opening animated/framed for wide-screen? I mean it is used for DBZ movies 1-9 too.

Nah, it's cropped just as badly for the movies as well, but it's animated for 4:3.

This is from a person who favors the Japanese version: I'm actually touched by the last clip and the other clip about Tenshinhan. I don't remember that I was touched by these moments back when I first watched the dubbed version. And I do think the music makes a difference. You know what? I might just buy the set and watch it dubbed with the Japanese music at least once! Now if only Schemmel would practice on his grunting... (Or alternatively, cut down the number of grunting.)

I only downloaded the last one because they're huge in size. I gotta say having the original japanese music really does help the dub.

Yes, I have that set and I remember hearing it on there (it's one of my favorite instrumentals!) I don't know what it's called, but I think it's on the second CD (or the first....maybe third....whatever, it's on there ^_^;; )

The artifacts flashing every few seconds are more distracting than I expected. The cropping is horrible, if you think otherwise, you're only trying to convince yourself that there's nothing wrong.

I'm never watching this dub, it erases any good memories from the pioneer dub which was simply amazing and better than hearing different types of Sabat grunt noises with now and then a good performance by Schemmel. Besides, they've done a bad job at inserting the original music with the low volume and all.

I downloaded them with approximately 400 kb/s.
Nice quality.
I also asked it in the other thread but could you tell me which regioncoding are on the discs?
Is it like the other DB/Z/GT discs still regions 1, 2 and 4?
7/5th of all people do not understand fractions.

Quoting one is plagiarism.
Quoting many is research.

By the way, when I pauze these clips I often see a lot of ghosting and interlacing. Is the ghosting also on the dvd's itself? Or are they a product of the encoding, because now it looks like funimation run a framerate doubler on it.
