I'm betting Kuro Goku will be similar to Xicor in some way, especially if he poses so much of a threat that even the Omni-King will be involved.

Also, wouldn't be the first time Toyotaro incorporated some aspects from the DBAF fan-manga into the DBS manga.

What's everybody's hopes for this arc?

I hope the new arc starts with Trunks escape. Where we're actually show, at least partially, the threat. Instead of Trunks showing up out of nowhere, cue monologue about the terror, the future currently faces.

I hope we get more enemies, instead of just this Goku Black, Present Trunks to interact with Future is another hope. Opportunity to expand the lore, from the participation of Kaioshin and the Omni-King.

It's hard to imagine much more, it's very difficult to me to guess how this plot will play out.

All i really want is an excellent utilization of the cast, instead of them standing around watching the main guys fight the big villains.

A situation like this would be very ideal and attractive to me: Goku Black is a terrorizing monster from Universe 4, and even defeated the God of Destruction of that universe. He found a way to planat Sadla looking to destroy the Saiyan's homeworld. Vegeta, Goku, and Trunks happen to be there when he arrives, as they are visiting the king and finding out more about their heritage.

When the trio of Saiyans begin their fight with Black, he already somehow knew they were from Earth and sent his 5 best fighters to Earth to invade it. This could be another version of the Ginyu Force. Let's say each of these 5 fighters range anywhere from a power level of 1 million to Kid Buu level. The rest of the Z fighters such as Gohan, Goten, Kid Trunks, Piccolo, Tien, and Krillin would have to take care of these guys while Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks take on Black at planat Sadla.

Something along those lines where everybody is fighting, and the scenes changing back between the battle on Earth and Sadal would be epic.

So what!? What if it is fan fiction!? Just enjoy a good story and don't whine about these "so-called" childish rules. There has never been an Evil Goku in CANON material before. So this is a nice change of pace and original. Don't like it? Stay away.

I think people are dissapointed in the lack of creativity. We've never had evil goku in canon, BUT that's such a cliche. How many series do this? We're all probably going to enjoy it,but we could have enjoyed it much more if it was a completely unique villian which is something we haven't seen in super so far. Beerus wasn't really a villian, freeza wasnt new, hit wasnt a villian. I want to see who's going to be the next freeza cell or boo

Hold on a sec. "BUT that's such a cliche. How many series do this?" You say that like is some kind of gigantic sin. The reason its clich is because funnily enough it's one that works more often then not and such character can and have turned out to be one of series's most popular aspects. Spider- man has Venom, Superman has both Bizarro and Cyborg Superman, Batman has Hush and Prometheus, Flash has Reverse Flash, Luffy has Blackbeard, Hulk has Red Hulk so on so forth. Dark versions of heroes charters have always been popular and can be very good characters in their own right. Cliche doesn't mean bad.

Forcing creativity can actually break a series, thats kind of what was wrong with the Buu arc. Sometimes, as odd as it may seem, the best thing is going for a cliche and putting your own spin on it, make it unique in your own way.

I'm not saying Black Goku WILL be good, I'm saying he could be. I just ask that you don't turn your nose up at the idea just because its cliche, give it a chance and see how things go.

Some of these are completely different characters though. I definitely wouldn't say that blackbeard is just evil Luffy. Venom isn't just evil spiderman. I don't know the other ones, but all of them besides for reverse flash and red hulk seem like different characters. Again, I don't know them so that might not be the face. If goku black really is evil goku then it's a case where it's the EXACT same person except for the fact that he's evil. And again, I never said that this would be bad. It'll probably be enjoyable but I still prefer a completely new character.

More Blacks . Might as well go the long yard and turn this fanfiction idea, into an amazing way to have the characters face themselves. I think Toriyama said it transcends time and space so let's add to that. Each one can represent a fault that the good versions need to fix. Goku for perhaps being too careless, which in the end costed that Goku everyone's lives. Vegeta if he gave completely into his demons, and let himself be brutal (Ok this is a retread, I'd like a better example too). Gohan for being too passive, which lead to people dying. Stuff like this. Though I may sound too dark which is a fine complaint, something even more lighthearted, but getting this message across is fine too.

Absolutely amazing It would be so awesome for them to beat their black versions by overcoming their weaknesses. A reasonable way to win and character development! For vegeta he could stop overthinking.

The one I want the most, Goku who actually chose to be evil. Say something happend after he died from the heart virus and was forced to watch every one he loved murdered while he was powerless to stop it. Something changed in Goku after that point that started him down a dark path that made him into a monster.

I didn't understand your logic. Goku went to Earth and bumped his head normally in Trunks' timeline. It already happened, so it can't unhappen.

He realizes there are countless people stronger yet this doesn't make him happy like usual because now he knows he can't catch up. Until, he finds a transformation :Super saiyan devil/demon. To unlock it he has to embrace his evil side. Goku with all his naivety thought he could handle this transformation but it consumes him and he becomes evil.

Thats kind of my point. All these character are at their core a dark version of those heroes but they aren't defined by that that fact. If you want closer examples you have the Maestro, an evil future version of the Hulk. You also have Overman, Superman's Nazi counterpart as well as Red Son's Russian Superman (hero to some villain to others). You have Superior Spiderman, someone possessing Spiderman's body, has his memories and trying to be a"better" and more ruthless Spiderman.

Luffy and Blackbeard during their first encounter were shown to be almost identical in personality yet at the same time polar opposites. So they are to sides of the same coin.

Well if its a matter of personal taste then your more then entitled to your opinion, I like new characters myself but I have always wanted a true evil Goku, fingers crossed he's done well.

Ehh I guess I'm excited? I like Future Trunks a ton obviously, he was one of the great parts of Cell Saga, but bringing him back when there already IS a Trunks who's way overdue growing up and recieving proper character developement makes me concerned. Seems like easy way out to score points with fans, bringing back fan-favourite.

Not to mention potential time-travel mess. Toriyama made it work more or less with Cell saga, but he still didn't avoid some small mistakes. For the most part the logic of the plot held together and he didn't run into paradoxes. Going back into time-travelling concept and adding more to it is very risky. But we'll see, like I said, he made the right call first time around creating separate timelines instead of trying to work within/around grandpa-paradox issue.

As for Black/Dark Goku lol. Sounds awful, I hope it somehow manages to turn out surprisingly amazing but not getting my hopes up. Ain't no one should be surprised why people think 'fanfic' when it comes to evil clones/dopplegangers/counterparts.

Well, technically, last time, he didn't come to the present timeline to ask for help, it was Future Bulma who wanted him to go there to prevent the Androids' invasion so that there could be at least one peaceful timeline where everyone is saved. So he actually came to help, not to ask for help.

Intresting thing that popped in my head. The only fighter who wasn't killed by the Androids in the Cell arc was Goku, who, as we know, died from the heart virus. Maybe that virus ties in with this Black Goku thing, like somehow taking over his dead body, ala Baby. I think it will be interesting to see where he comes from and the fact that Goku is spelled different than usual in regard to Black Goku might also mean something in the long run. Hm... I am trying not to get exited over this character, since I will probably be dissapointed eventually, but speculations for me are sometimes the most fun part of a story, so it is kinda hard to not get hyped since I love doing it

Question for guys who were along for the ride when the series was originally running: Were there this kind of announcements/future tidbits being thrown around by Toei back then too?

It's likely Black Goku is Commander Black + Goku once their DNA is combined to create a new warrior? Or it really is just Turles remastered for 2016

This arc will probably end up being a different take on Xenoverse.
Some predictions:

Future Trunks has a new form

Black Goku is not the only 'Black' character

Universe 6 characters are also involved

The guy controlling these 'black' characters ( Z-fighters. Beerus and Whis)who are all supposed to be dead has been taking the skill and power of the current timeline characters slowly as they are best version of the everyone so Trunks has returned to tell them they are gradually getting weaker. This is why Whis and Beerus are struggling as well

Piccolo eventually fuses with Black Piccolo

Champa helps them as he is not affected and this is him helping Beerus because he got a new earth.

It mostly will not take place on earth.

Even though Toriyama new style of making everyone skinny infuriates me, I'm glad he's still a fantastic stylist. Future Trunks looks great!
I love how he shares the same scarf than Bulma. He had a blue one in GT, so I will take this red one now.
I have to admit I didn't notice the blue hair at first though.

I wonder if Future Trunks will convince kid Trunks to grow up.

There’s some confusing bits with time changing here and there, but just bear with me. It should definitely turn out to be a fun story!

Excited Future Trunks is returning, but what the deal with red scarfs in DB am I missing something?

I don't really see it as a big deal. The only other character who has a red scarf is Bulma.

3. If Toriyama was going to due a fan story about Evil Goku, why not just use Xicor? Toyotarō is Toyable isn't it and Toriyama joked about using his ideas so why not? Everything else is lining up with AF so they should have just brought in the face of AF and make Xicor Canon.

Xicor is not Toyotaro's original character. He is a old fan fic character that exist on the web for ages before Toyable's AF in 2007.

Xicor's name and parts of his Origin are not Toyotarō's but the design is. Take the look maybe change the name and create a new Goddess as the mother and it works the same.

I just had a thought, thinking about Trunks interacting with characters and versions of characters he never got to meet before - #18. He left knowing Kuririn had a thing for her, as well as sort-of realizing (maybe?) that she wasn't as evil as the Androids in his time were. Still though, I'm sure his reaction to the fact that she and Kuririn actually did get together, much less had a child, is going to be glorious.

I don't mind seeing Future Trunks return. It does feel like fan service but honestly that seems to be the main goal of any old franchise that gets a continuation. The sagas in Super have been pretty short compared to the sagas in DBZ so it's probably going to be like 10-15 episodes at most. I just hope it has some significance to the overall story and doesn't feel like a filler saga before the tournament.

I'm not sure what to think of this Black Goku. I mean it's not the worst fan fic cliche we've seen in Super so far so I guess that's a start.
-Alternate universe version of Goku who never hit his head? (Unlikely since his name is Goku and not Kakarotto)
-Possessed Future Goku? (He's dead but he could IT back to the living realm since he's evil and wouldn't care about breaking any rules)
-Gero's backup backup plan and a clone of Goku? (Cell had Goku's DNA but maybe Gero decided to make one clone from Goku's DNA alone)
or all the above...
-Clone of baby Kakarotto who grew up to become a good guy, changed his name to Goku, and then possessed to become evil again?

Maybe Toiryama will surprise us and come up with a different idea or maybe it's a parody of one of these. I still like to believe that Toriyama occasionally read some fanfics or fancomics and if he sees an idea that's really common then he'll parody it in a new story.

Something else I'm wondering is how strong he'll be. I hope it's not like RoF where the villain is only stronger than the Z fighters but still way weaker than Beerus. In the description, it said something about the Gods of Destruction and Omni-King so maybe this Black Goku isn't the only villain?
