I'm not excited about this Black Goku. I would rather a totally new character.
Between revive old villains or have evil verions of the main cast, may the devil pick his poison.

Tree of Might is one of my least favourite DBZ Movies too, so if Turles is anything to go by I'm not interested in that concept again.
But it wouldn't be the first time that Toriyama tranforms a boring concept into something entertaining, so I will wait.

It's possible Toriyama wants to tell the story of how Trunks became a Time Patroller but why would he say he hasn't even seen the final script? Surely, he knows the whole story because he's the one that came up with it for DBO, right?

Also, I'd like to point out that "Goku Black" is not named "Black Goku". As engrishy as the Japanese are, they fully know the order od "Dark/Evil/Black X". Of course, it was said that the name alone gave a depiction of what the enemy would be like, so... Either way, Goku is dead in Trunks' timeline and if they couldn't get to Namek in all those years they probably still didn't go there (oh yeah, he died by natural causes, right?). I wouldn't mind them using the Super Dragon Balls to revive everyone in Trunks' timeline, the poor guy deserves it.

I find it even more interesting that they did not write Goku Black having Goku's long "u" in mind, so like "Gokuu Burakku" but "Goku Burakku", but this could be because they had the foreign version in mind, just as they also used katakana.

I think it's time for proper name rather then just colors.

I think if Super Saiyan was premiering in Super it'd be "Yellow Saiyan" or some crap.

It would've been funny if they went that direction with the new characters as well.

Fat Beerus instead of Champa, Woman Whis instead of Vados and U6 Freeza instead of Frost.

A Broly saga would give the possibility to add a lot to his character but I think as things are right now it would not.

No because Super's main goal is to sell toys, not tell a story which is the biggest thing going against it.

There was so much that could've been done with Freeza but they didn't do any of it so chances are Broly would get the same treatment.

Yeah, I know, I guess it's my fault for not being clear enough. The point I was trying to make is that he's probably got a new and a better one. And like Gyt Kaliba pointed out, maybe now he's become better in fighting with a sword, so that would explain why he's back using one again, which I personally think would be a good idea, at least this way we'll get see some diversity in fighting styles instead of the usual redundant punch-kick-energy blast that we see pretty much all the time.

I did not disagree with you, I just said he would probably not have any substance. On the other hand, maybe Broly works once again this way. If at least his presence is somewhat stylish again.

It was not a "request". He said he based his new story on a suggestion, which is a very different thing.

That's not really true, either. Every long running shonen wants to sell merchandise. But it's not a heavy merchandise-driven show like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Precure or Pokemon where the writers have to come up with plots around the toys and new products. In Super, it's the other way around. It's not like we're getting new transformations and the likes every week, just a handful of new characters were introduced so far. And Toriyama doesn't seem worried at all about making them "sellable".

Really, don't spread assumptions as facts, especially when it wasn't even the word used.

That would be awesome!!!! Would definitely make it hard to decide if Gohan or Future trunks is my favorite character. I don't see it happening though, because we don't really see weapons often. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised though.

Gohan and future trunks fusing would be the ultimate fan service for me. I would love for him to have purple and black hair because that's one of my favorite things about gotenks design. Gohan never really had a relationship like goten and trunks or goku and vegeta. I hope Future trunks can fill that void. Future trunks coming back could be the reason why Goten and trunks havent gotten a growth spurt yet. Telling the difference between present and future could be confusing.

Oh well...
I'm liking the idea of Future Trunks returning, it could be pretty interesting if its well executed. I'm not that worried of his character getting screwed by Toei or Toriyama's writing for now until I see or know whats the actual plot.
The Goku Black does sounds lame but I guess maybe he is the one with the white hair? (And is probably dark skinned)
I just hope its not Goku possessed by something/someone.... (what am I saying... for this to involve the Hakaishins and Zen ou it must be him right? , hopefully I'm wrong )

talking about the hakaishins I just hope the story reveals where they come from, since I get from Toriyama's comment some mysteries about them and the dragon ball gods in general is going to be revealed, (and maybe, if they are born hakaishins, it shows us some childhood moments with the twin cats I can just dream )
