So about Black Goku, I'm guessing we are dealing with Goku who never got dropped on his head, and thus retained his saiyan savagery and not evil goku with a goatee. What do you all expect.

Right, but it could be Trunks' name for him rather a name he himself goes by or it could be Toriyama just not thinking things through completely. Also, with this 12 universe thing, where do alternate timelines fall into this? Are they their own universe.

My theories are:
1) A Gokû warped by a set of tragic circumstances that never befell regular Gokû. Where Future Trunks faced tragedy and came out stronger, maybe a tragedy emotionally broke this Gokû.
2) A possession; either a 'Majin Gokû' type or "Bebi Gokû" type.
3) A clone of Gokû created by Dr. Gero; a Movie 7 situation.

I feel like it could be Bardock instead, but I'm not convinced because I think if it were him they'd call him something more mysterious like what they did in DBHeroes.

The whole "Black Gokû" naming scheme is unfortunate; all I can think is "Someone sure likes throwing English words in there.".

I expect goku black to be a villain born from some type of consequences from something. I dont expect him to be the goku who never bumped his head, because that is no threat to anyone at all. Even muten roshi or his own grandpa could kick kid goku's ass. Unless goku's heart virus affected him in some wrong way and now the virus had taken over him(this is kinda sounding like venom from spiderman.) or it could be that someone in the dead world did something to goku and now he's unstoppable and could not be stopped from going to the living world and threatening future trunks's timeline.

Maybe it's an alternate version of Goku from another universe who has gone completely insane after losing to universe 7 Goku in the multiverse tournament and getting his home planet destroyed as punishment.

I could see them doing another Evil Goku story, even though we've already seen it with Turles and to a lesser extent, Ginyu.

They used the Frieza returning idea, like it was never done before, just told it differently.

So I could seem them acting like Evil Goku has never been done before, since they did it with Frieza.

Perhaps this version of Evil Goku will be a God of Destruction, and is only perceived as evil by Future Trunks.

I personally have a sneaking suspicion that this Evil Goku will probably be Time Breaker Bardock.
Since Future Trunks/ Time Patrol Trunks are so closely linked to Time Breaker Bardock thanks to Heroes, DBO, and Xenoverse.
Perhaps they could borrow elements of that plot and use it as a retelling in Super.

Perhaps Future Trunks just mistakes Time Breaker Bardock for Goku due to the resemblance and the mask.
They may use it as a tie in to the Episode of Bardock and make that canon, since he too, time traveled in that special.
Maybe we'll see Bardock's story go full circle, tying in legendary super saiyans, and saiyan god.
Then Vegeta will understand why Goku is so special.

Or what if it's Ozotto shape shifted to look like Goku. xD

No doubt Future Trunks & Bardock are very popular characters, the time patrol story seems to be getting around, maybe it's found it's way into the anime.

Plus didn't we get mention of a villain with white hair?

I'm confused by how there is another Goku because Goku died in Trunks timeline. Unless Trunks is in another timeline where this new Goku is.

Any language theories on why they're using katakana instead of kanji for this Gokû's name? Has anyone seen anything like that before elsewhere?

An evil Goku would be very similar to tree of might.

A Goku getting taken over by someone was done twice to Vegeta.

Goku having a lost brother was done with Raditz.

They've used Bardock a lot and the results weren't very good so I'm not sure if that would be a good idea either.

What about an under the red hood type of story where Goten is born early in Trunks' timeline but was thought dead after an attack by the androids ? Super has been playing everything extremely safe so I'm not sure if they'd do that kind of story.

The only reasonable theory I can and will hold onto right now (with new evidence maybe changing things up) is that it has something to do with the Copy-Sautean being introduced in the upcoming episodes. We've got an alien that just happens to have the capacity to transform itself into someone else and possesses that individual's full strength, and then within an episode or two after, we're brought into the upcoming story arc involving an "Evil Goku" with enough power to not only leave Trunks running to the present time in desperation, but also is going to somehow be a credible enough threat for the likes of current strength Goku and Vegeta.

Seems a bit too convenient for it to be nothing more than a coincidence.

That could be the case, someone who's using the name after hearing about the legendary Ssj who defeated Freeza.

Like how Obito used Madara's name.

What if "black goku" is a reanimated version of Goku from future trunks time line. You know after he dies of the heart virus, some crazy scientist (they use this a lot....) finds goku's body and reanimates his corpse O.o or made a clone from his dna or something >.>
