The ratings tanked huh. How's Naruto shippuden doing? Or are the rating for Toei animation only?
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?

Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

I'd have said it was because of Golden Week but I don't think it affected One Piece.

Dragon Ball will rise again! We're coming for you One Piece, you suck! Seriously, why is that series so popular in Japan? The art is atrocious and pirates ain't that interesting to warrant watching 1000 episodes and reading 1000 chapters.

It's got everything and Oda is way better than Toriyama at drawing.

I definitely prefer Toriyama's art style but One Piece is the superior manga to Dragon Ball.

One Piece is superior to Dragon Ball in every way. Watch or read the series before making comments like that.

What do you mean "we"? Kanzenshuu has One Piece fans as well and tons of them at that. Also, kid? I'm not a fucking kid thank you very much. I don't care if people don't like it but give it a chance before saying that you hate it. This very response is why I hate the goddamn Dragon Ball fanbase. You just can't take one show being better statically than another. At least Oda's characters aren't one dimensional.

Neither are Dragon Ball's, the word you're looking for is two-dimensional. And One Piece's characters are mostly two-dimensional as well, character depth isn't exactly the series' strong point, despite how good it is in other aspects.

Nop. It doesn't even come close.
Oda artstyle is really ugly. Even after all these years, I still don't find it beautiful. I just got used to it.

And if we're talking about a shonen that has everything, the winner is HunterxHunter.
One Piece has amazing writting and worldbuilding, but fails when it comes to great battles and interesting characters.

A lot of people seem to think nowadays that dramatic backstory = good character, that's not true. Characters like Robin and Chopper for example still suck.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

One Piece is at the prime of its storyline. DBS is more of an afterthought. It'd be better to compare DBZ in the 1980s/90s with OP now.

You are reading the manga, aren't you? Look at the incredible details and backgrounds in almost every chapter, it's way ahead of Toriyama.

They're each just different art styles. Oda's is a little too Disney at times for me, and I don't care for the proportions he uses (Nami and Robin have waists so small it's to the point of caricature. Bulma's at least got a realistic waist size.). Oda is good at monster characters though. He wants to make a scary monster he can pull that off easy.
On hiatus.

Ratings should kick off even higher once Future Trunks returns. I have a feeling his return will draw in more people.

He's a popular character that has been on the frontlines these last years, thanks to Dragon Ball Heroes. That alone makes him one of the most popular characters among kids nowadays.
We also had him in Xenoverse. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. :)

I thought people said ratings essentially don't matter much as long as merchandize revenue is up? As long as Dragonball Super stays around the 5.0-6.0 range it should be fine. I don't see what people are expecting. Its obviously never going to get in the 8's or 9's and overtake One Piece and Detective Conan but who cares? Does that even matter?

For the heretics underestimating Toriyama drawing skills:
Toriyama in his prime > most modern WSJ mangakas

I think basically everyone would disagree with your statement. The battles and characters are the highlights and Robin and Chopper don't suck whatsoever. Unlike Dragon Ball, every StrawHat is used to their fullest and aren't worthless unlike Yamcha, Gohan, Tien and several others. Guess I shouldn't have posted about this in a forum full of people who have a large Dragon Ball bias that think that everything else in inferior. I've being contemplating just logging out of Kanzenshuu for a while because of this horrible fan base and you know what, I'm going to. It might seem like I'm just being a One Piece tard but I'm not. I'm a huge fan of the series who is fine with people not liking but saying that One Piece sucks and Dragon Ball is better without even reading a page or watching an episode? That's not right, at all. I know what the series is like and these comments are mainly from people who have never seen it or read it or have only watch maybe an episode of it. A series that contiously refuses to develop it's characters and change up it's story is better than a series that continously develops it's characters (By making them go through failures and such adding depth to them making them feel real) and changes it's story up all the time? No, that's just ridiculous. I love DB too but Toriyama's refusal to develop the story and characters further (Especially after the fact that he DID do just that in Battle of Gods but he only ever did it there as of late) pisses me off. No characters suck, Oda makes sure that every character is just as important and that they all play a vital role to the story and the journey. There used to be a lot of love for One Piece here a few years back but now it's full of new forum members who love the hell out of Dragon Ball but will lambast anything else that isn't DB. Goodbye
