That sounds like business as usual when it comes to Toriyama so nobody can accuse this series of not being authentic.VegettoEX wrote: Hell, it was clear from the start that there wasn't a plan AT ALL in ANY fashion, nevermind just about the Trunks stuff.

Even if the next arc lasts 24 episodes, it's still a bit too short. A good planned plot should last you 40 episode or so.
It's two cours, not three.JulieYBM wrote:According to the main page Dragon Ball Super is planned for upwards of seventy-two episodes. That puts us through another three cours. Should be interesting to see where this goes.

Also, episode 72 should air in the first half of December. This pretty much guarantees another cour and DBS airing until March 2017, at least, as it wouldn't end at 72.
A 24-episode arc for an anime-original series is very long already. Remember this is not a manga adaptation.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Even if the next arc lasts 24 episodes, it's still a bit too short. A good planned plot should last you 40 episode or so.

24 episodes are not short
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm hoping Super lasts for a couple of years at least. With a 10 year gap to fill, they certainly have the scope to do it. I can't see it being cancelled/finished unless Toriyama Sensei decides he's had enough, or the merchandise sales plummet.
Judging by the figures posted by Toei & Bandai recently, there's no danger that is going to happen any time soon.
Am I right in saying its a consistent top 10 every week pretty much?. I suppose the only other way it would get cancelled was if nobody was watching it. No company would pay to produce a show no one was watching, regardless of it being produced to sell merchandise.

Even so, it's not impossible to have an arc go up to to 40 episodes. Remember GT had Black Star Dragon Balls and Baby go up to episode 40.

Super is doing what GT should have done financially back in 1996-1997. Super is likely going to be at 100+ episodes while GT ended at 64 episodes and was made to carry on the success that DBZ had from 1989 - 1995.

Anyhoo, if the television schedule is planned out that far in advance already I hope that means the line producer is paying attention and can properly schedule some fucking staff. We need a real winner of an episode.

This should be no surprise to anyone after the financial results of Toei and Namco Bandai along with the next arc being about Future Trunks and not the 12 universe tournament. 100 episodes without doubt at least and probably way more. 100th episode will be about end of june next year.
The 12 universe tournament will also probably be the longest arc.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Kai-fied version of DBZ arcs puts them on around 50-eps average lenght. That's pretty much where a good major DBZ saga should aim for. Gives enough time for growth, developement, build-up, focus on fights, change of the course of events few times, some breaks/roombreathers etc.
Let's hope we're NOT stuck in this 10-year gap for many years to come, that would just suck. One of the defining qualities of DB/DBZ was the growth of the characters and the world constantly moving forward.DBZ_Lee wrote:I'm hoping Super lasts for a couple of years at least. I'm glad Super is gonna be around for a little while longer at the very least. And I won't lie, lasting longer than GT does feel like an accomplishment in some way.

It depends on the plot, if there isn't enough material then there's no reason to stretch it out.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Even if the next arc lasts 24 episodes, it's still a bit too short.
The BOG arc was only 14 episodes long but due to how short the story was they had to stretch everything out, resulting in a very slow arc.
The Buu arc was the only one to go over 50 with 69 or 67 (if you don't count the 2 filler episodes they left in) episodes, the other 3 were 18, 36 & 44.Basaku wrote:Kai-fied version of DBZ arcs puts them on around 50-eps average lenght.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I honestly don't care how many episodes of Super we're getting, I just hope they're good. I found the last few episodes of Super quite entertaining. So if they keep that up I'm all for more Super. I just really hope it doesn't overstay its welcome, especially if the quality hits another bump in the road.
