DB american releases

Question for you guys: Does Dragonball suffer the same zooming in as DBZ? I would assume so, but I came here to ask just in case otherwise.

I'd assume so, since in the final Tournament of DB, when Kami and Piccolo are talking to each other in Namekian, the "Namek text" is dangerously close to the bottom and side screens.

I'm almost certain that GT is the only one of the DB series that FUNi doesn't have zoomed in (because it's newer?) based on comparison shots I've seen here a while back.

Did FUNi ever explain why they zoomed in the footage? Did it have something to do with the glue on the cels... or is it just another of those random "WE BE CRAZYZ" FUNi things?

kanzentai.com (about the DragonBox remastering) wrote:When making the original masters for a series, it is typical to copy the film while slightly zoomed-in. This reduces the risk of catching the edge of a misaligned cel (ie. seeing the edge of the image). However, with time, money and new digital technology on their side, Pony Canyon has created a new print that captures more image than the original masters. In some cases this actually meant re-aligning some of the frames, which not only allowed for a larger image surface, but also greatly reduced all former traces of jitter!

OH! So the DragonBox has even more picture on it than what originally aired on tv in Japan.

That makes me admire it even more. X3
