Personally I dislike seeing literally a black Goku

I think this design is good(by SeeReax):

I don't really like that design. The colours really don't mesh that well. I really hope that Black Goku is just a red herring, and the character literally isn't a and Evil/Dark version of Goku. Because the franchise has already done that many times.

Here's my guess.
Black Goku is the Goku from Trunks's timeline and dying of a heart virus filled his soul with rage and this made him susceptible to corruption from something (maybe even Makaioshin) or he merged with something evil. I'm gonna bet he has dark colored outfit and he'll have an "evil" Super Saiyan form that will be exclusive to him (until Heroes gives it to Broly...) and either his base form or this transformation, or both, has a black aura.

I'm definitely with you in regards to it having to do with the dead Goku of Trunks' timeline. LightBing suggested on the previous page it could be a guy, who could wake people from the dead and then corrupt them. I myself suggested he could've become corrupted in the afterlife like what happened with Janemba, thus giving him the power to freely travel from the afterlife to the living world.

I really want it to be dead Goku somehow coming back wrong.

A necromancer could provide some interesting stuff.

If Goku Black is Goku from Trunks' timeline then he must have been brainwashed or something because the name he'd call himself wouldn't be represented using katakana if he was his normal self, even corrupted by evil. Nor what Trunks would call him. So, either someone who isn't that familiar with him gave him the name, it's some kind of title or someone having heard of "Goku" started naming themselves that.

Usually the Jump leaks start to come out tomorrow or later tonight, depending of where you are.
At worst, by Saturday we should see something.

If it's future Goku, I hope the explanation they go with is that the virus itself was some alien parasite that eventually takes over and powers him up. It'd be neat to tie a random detail like that into the next villain.

It's a Marvel storyline from the 80s, I believe. It was adapted in the cartoon series, as well.

Yes but since there's already a Goku in the story, I think the characters would think of him as the Goku they know and that would be represented in kanji when written (think about the manga). Obviously, this isn't a problem in the anime since we're dealing with sound but I feel the way the name is written also conveys feeling/intention. Just like when Vegeta called him Goku in the manga and it was written in katakana since he never calls him that and was meant to be awkward.

I don't think it's for sure; this thread has so much information and speculation intertwined, it's hard to separate between what is definitely happening and what we hope will happen. I remember a scan saying that more info would be revealed in Jump, but I don't recall if it said a specific issue number...like, they could've meant a later issue closer to the air date, unless it said it would definitively be the very next issue. I guess we'll find out fairly soon if there's anything new, but I'm not personally getting my hopes up (now watch me be totally wrong and it's like "ZOMG the biggest info dump EVAR!" )

That new Monster Hunter anime (announced a few months back) will premiere on Fuji in October, airing every Sunday 8:30 am. This is relevant to us because Dragon Ball will have new company, an anime lead-in it didn't have. I'm expecting it to be very good for the ratings.

Yeah, i'm not sure there'll actually be anything this issue either.

Anyway, some leaks have been out for a couple hours, but just the usual manga stuff. Anime info isn't a priority, so don't expect it so soon unless there is really something and it's big news.
