Funi Redubbing Parts of Frieza Saga

funi quotes at anime convention 2007

"We stride to put out the best products in the anime business, this includes the Dragon Ball series. in order to meet many fans expectations we saught the idea to convert the Dragon Ball Z series completly in 16:9 widescreen presentation"

"We will be redoing many of the dubs from the saiyan saga onward to the buu saga. This is to include and is not limited to: Frieza, Vegeta, Krillin and Mr. Popo. Christopher R. Sabat our lead voice director has stated in his recent interview that his voice has changed and we anticipated that. We will be redubing his voice overs from the saiyan saga onward."

This makes me very happy. Now Frieza saga will sound like the rest of the series. I also wont have to hear Sabet try to sound like Drummond.

I also guessing that vegeta will no longer be a "freaking genius" either.

well, if you want it that badlym, you can probably find the last Freeza disc easily enough for your shits and giggles fun.

Though if they really do a decent job I MIGHT end up doing a season 3 purchase if only to counteract the really frikkin wonky directions of some of the "Freeza" discs. Having to tell it "YES GO TO THE NEXT EPISODE DAMN YOU" is a pain in the arse.

That said I have no plans to rebuy the Cell or Buu arcs as I'm just fine and peachy with the discs I have covering them now.

Just out of curiosity, is FUNi still making English next episode previews, or did they give up on them?

Looks like they gave up on them entirely.

I have all the old funi discs anyways to relive those funny and painful moments.

I love when a company re-dubs their own shit. Its like, why didnt you use that script in the first place? I forget the name and or number of what episode I want to mention here... The one right before season 3 started, Goku is fighting those two Ginyu members... that episode has been dubbed like 4 times already...

* First time - Pioneer/FUNimation dub.
* Second Time - First FUNimation in house cast.
* Third time - UUC.
* Fourth time - Widescreen editions.

Well, to be fair, wasn't that like 25% of an episode?

Damn... Call me crazy, but I'm going to miss the badly dubbed Freeza Saga. It holds as much nostalgia for me as the original Saiyan and Namek Sagas.

Meh... the good news for me, is that the discs will drop way low in price on Amazon Marketplace by the time the Season 3 set comes out lol.

And when I'm tired of cheesy lines, and horrible script, I'll just go over to the Japanese version. :lol:

The original Freeza saga dub will be on the season sets anyway, as the second audio track.

Uhmm... that was never confirmed... It will most likely be:

Re-done dub w/Japanese BGM 5.1
Re-done dub w/American BGM 2.0 Stereo
Japanese Dub 2.0 Mono.

But even if it is what you say it is, I don't want it, because it's widescreen, and will be filtered to hell. I can live with the grain and such apparent in the original releases. :wink:

Thats a very good point we've overlooked. Still it'd be very surreal to hear "Krillin's in da house" as previously mentioned...with the Japanese music going on us.

The menus on the DVDs say "Original Broadcast Version" though.

Yeah, but it wasn't the "Original" broadcast version.

You can kindly leave me alone about it now. ;)

Honestly, I don't like the whole idea if everything being redubbed like this. Yea, there are some corny lines in there, especially from the late namek saga, but come on. Like Nathan said, this will be about the fouth time it's redubbed. There's no point in funimation redubbing it's OWN work. It just seems really redundant to me

Well to a dub fan like me its very cool ,because some of the voices were done by different people in the frieza saga such as tien. Also almost every voice actor is better now then they were in 1999, but I bet they will leave cell saga and onward pretty much untouched. They really only said that Sabat was redoing his lines, probably doing it for free. I really don't care what people say about the guy, but he seems like a nice guy who really enjoys his job and the material to me at least.

That's true. From what I've seen of him in videos and such, he seems like a pretty cool guy. Very down to Earth and out going.
I don't have a thing for him or anything. Just my opinion.
