If I need to have played Xenoverse or Online or something to understand the anime or even just to know a character's backstory, I really think that's a fatal flaw. Please, nothing original to video games, no Coola or Broly or Tullece. If they do go in the direction of Makaioshin and whatnot I'd actually much rather Toriyama contradict the video games than continue from them and make the anime non-self-contained.
I agree, although it can be salvaged with a decent and informative flashback. Jaco's must have left many people scratching their heads. The main issue is how they handle it, people aren't forced to have seen every bit of Dragon Ball side materials to understand the main product.
Regarding Mai, wow I think you guys are letting your imagination run wild. I really doubt Mai's role is to be a love interest of Trunks, that's not how Mr.Toriyama works. The original "romance" was all for jokes.
My main fear with this arc is also the idea of videogame stuff bleeding into Super. I didn't really care for Demigra (I liked Towa and Miira a lot more) and not that I'm big on "is it canon?" stuff, but adding things from a videogame would take me out of the illusion of "we're not just showing this to sell videogame stuff".
If they want to do a Xenoverse TV show, let that be a separate TV show; don't try plugging it into Super.
Regarding Mai: I think she's just there so Future Trunks has someone to talk to. Toriyama rule of "introduction in twos".

Yeah for some reason GT Trunks is paired up with Pan too, and it's so weird. And people wonder why I hate shippers . Least the Bulgeta fans usually are cool.
For me, that just stems from me watching GT as a child and thinking they were in the same age range and not being able to let go of that shipping idea as I grew up *shrug* Blame 8 year old me!
When Super apparently shoves Goku down our throats:
Spoiler:
HeroR wrote:The characters in Super can work with Goku and they're treated like equals to him. Goku just being in the room doesn't take away from the character. In Z, the characters were so depended on Goku that they couldn't go an episode without mentioning him in some way even by hoping he will arrived, get better, training to get stronger, our last hope, being like him, ect. Goku was wanked to hell in Z, even when he wasn't in the room and everyone else was secondary to him. In fact, this was a major issue Goku had, which is why he didn't want to do anything in the Buu Saga.

Earth's balls. Goku dies in Age 766, the Androids appear in Age 767 and kill Piccolo. It's possible Goku's death emboldened Pilaf to make a wish, making the balls unavailable for Goku's resurrection. Just one theory, I'm sure others can work.
It feels weird that people are going "YET ANOTHER EVIL GOKU" when it's only been done once. In a movie. Or twice if you reeeeeeeeeeeeaaallly want to reach with Raditz.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words? Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up! Even weirder because nobody cares about Tullece or Raditz... at all

Either the Super dragon balls or the Namekian dragon balls
There are other two options too.. What stopped Future Trunks to resurrect Piccolo and with that Kami to activate the Earth's Dragon Balls once again when his World was at peace after he killed Future Cell? Nothing! Or else, he could call Dende from Namek to be the new guardian and activate the DBs and also upgrade Future Shenlon to be able to grant 3 whises like the present Shenlon.... There are enough possibilies for Mai to wish to be younger like in the present... But I don't like the idea as her to be Trunks' girlfriend in this timeline too...

English is not my first language!
I'm still waiting for Dragon Ball in Super...
This is actually the first evil Goku they did, Tullece isnt exactly Goku, he's just a look a like non canon same level warrior type, Bardock is Goku's dad, I dont count Cell since he simply has Goku's cells mixed with others, not exactly him and Ginyu's body swap, well... its a body swap. This is the actual first time we're getting deep into literally Goku with a different personality.

I like Tullece, and I'm glad that Black Goku is shaping up to be like... a way better Tullece?

That doesn't classify as "evil Goku" they have their own personality only thing similar is some of Buu & Cell's techniques.
Perfect Cell's personality is extremely similar to that of "If Goku Went Rogue". Granted he does have the DNA of several different fighters, but at the core of Perfect Cell's character he acts how you'd expect an "Evil Goku" to act. He's extremely laid back and composed, he loves a challenge and seeks to get the best out of anyone he fights to make his battles more interesting and fun. Majin Boo is an ever more similar case. He's extremely energetic, nearly always has a smile on his face, even when causing destruction around him, has a huge appetite and has a mostly carefree attitude to pretty much anything.

I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.

I also like Tullece. His personality really is different enough from Gokû's where he felt like his own character to me at least. He's like a smarter Raditz who happens to look like Gokû.
I'm still excited for Gokû Black.
Also, while I don't watch the dub that much anymore, if I remember this right I think "Evil Gokû" was one of Schemmel's wishlist items a while back.
I just hope he actually has a decent backstory and a decent plot during the course of his saga. But knowing who's behind this, we might actually just see Turles!rehash appearing out of nowhere, they begin to fight him, they win and moves forward to the next saga...
Oh, and all of this without Goten and Trunks with their proper height.

Man, if you really want to stretch it like that, you can find 'something Goku" in anyone, lol.
I don't even remember Cell having fun in finding someone stronger than him, no. If anything, he acted more like Vegeta when he faced Gohan. He lost all his composure when he actually found a challenge. What kind of Goku is that?

Eh, still better than having Trunks date someone older than her mom (if they even are to begin with.)
I still say that when they did the wish they turned into babies which is why in BoG they look like Goten and Trunks' age, still implying that the wish was made around the same time in both timelines.

Yes but you never had an actual Evil Goku. That's the thing. Doesn't matter how close someone pretty much is to being Evil Goku, unless that's what they're called. I've seen these symptoms before. Mainly in series where you essentially have a bad sequel that is called something else, so it automatically doesn't count as a sequel. Meanwhile in an ultimate universe, GT came up with this idea and is hated for it.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
