I'm hoping they ditched the opening theme because there was no need for it. After the Yamamoto scandal I honestly don't mind the Ocean dub having a replacement score so long as its good.SX10 wrote:Ah, Nitro, it seems they didn't discuss the BGM, but my theory is that they ditched the idea of a brand new opening song. I do notice that Ocean dub's at least seem to keep original Japanese openings. I still think there'll be a replacement score though.

Thank you for all the info Quantum-Kakarrotto, and do keep us updated on what this guy tells you about the dub's whereabouts.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I would also love to hear a new soundtrack for Kai, I was never too fond of either Yamamoto or the reuse of Kikuchi so I'm personally hoping they haven't gotten rid of it. I'm just saying that the producers of this dub seem to be contradicting their own philosophy by remaining faithful in one aspect (script and pronunciation) yet unfaithful in another (music).
Perhaps they just don't care anymore since the Yamamoto scandal, and would prefer to start fresh. I can understand if that's where they're coming from.
As others have said, definitely keep us posted on what you hear Quantum-Kakarrotto. Even three episodes is better than nothing.

I'll keep everyone posted on this information, just remember to keep taking all of this with a grain of salt until we see proof of this Kai Ocean Dub existence. I can't make any promises with this guy because for all I know he can be trolling, but if he's not I will do my best to keep you all informed and ask him if he can send me the three episodes he has or find a website that has these episodes available. I'll also be looking through the internet and the Korean Internet
for anything on the three episodes mentioned.
And yeah sorry for being to find out anything more for now regarding the BMG or the rest of the voice actors for this, again as soon as I hear anything from this guy, I'll let everyone know.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I have a feeling that it's either a mistake or a cruel prank (not from Quantum-Kakarrotto, but from whoever he talked to) and we're all going to be let down, but...we must never let hope die, right? So I say we keep speculating!
I actually think I have a possible explanation as to why they (might have) ditched a replacement score. It might be a "Canadian Content Law" thing. Canada has a lot of laws in place to make sure that their TV has a lot of, well...Canadian content on it. Imported shows are not illegal by any means, and air on Canadian TV all the time, but apparently there are economic incentives in place that are designed to encourage as much Canadian content as possible. Apparently, replacing a musical score with one composed in Canada does help to make a show more easily fit the legal definition of "Canadian content." If no Canadian TV network was biting, the producers might have just said, "Screw the replacement score, it's not gonna air in Canada anyway."
Also, just one last thought...it's interesting that the person described Drummond's Vegeta voice as a cross between his original Vegeta voice and his Zechs Marquise voice........because, in my opinion, I think that's actually a pretty good description of how his Vegeta voice has sounded at his more recent convention appearances whenever he is asked to say a Vegeta line. To me, that's something that suggests that whoever Quantum-Kakarrotto spoke to is telling the truth.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

That's why I keep saying take this with a grain a salt, there are live trolls out there and as I said before until I see actual footage of this series, I'll keep my belief down to like 30% of this being true.
Also those facts about the Canadian Content Law does sound like a good reason why the BGM might not have been replaced since the supposed three episodes were shown in Korea (Again grain of salt).
I have also went through much of Korean Google(that actually exists) and I saw a lot of mentions of the Ocean dub, stuff we've already known like the opening, but I did find this offline website that apparently had downloads of the Ocean Dub Kai series, but since it's shut down I can't see any of the content on it meaning I don't know if this is false information again and only have the description which isn't very good.
We all also know if this dub is being played somewhere, there is no Buu arc as Scott Mcneil a few years ago said they haven't gotten that far.
And TheBlackPaladin, I agree that when he told me the description of Drummond's Vegeta voice it made me think this actually exists somewhere in the world. But if this does exist I'm just wondering why there has been no mention of it at all. If it was airing somewhere wouldn't Ocean Studios or someone announce that this was airing somewhere unless they plan to bring this back to North America which is why they're keeping it on the down low.
But as I searched the web I did come across this video that was posted on May 14, 2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKHUfyat3tI
It's a video of old Ocean Dub music with the new Ocean Kai theme and in the video description, the YouTuber DBAF HellStorm wrote. "The Ocean Dub Is Finally Here! I Just found it this morning it premired last week"
I checked his channel to see if he was a troll, but I saw he had videos of Dragon Ball Super reviews he did himself and other videos and I commented on his video asking if he's telling the truth or just lying to everyone and if it is airing, too specify what channel its on.
Also I found the most recent video of Brian Drummond doing Vegeta posted in 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4BcyeqJ7C8

That's some good work! I've been trying [can only surf the web via mobile phone at the minute

I feel like I'm 50/ 50 on this. I also feel like a flight to Korea.

That's a serious good find Quantum!
I wouldn't have expected for the Ocean Kai dub to end up like this. I know nothing official has been found but 99% of the evidence that's being presented here seems to be true! I know that we're not supposed to get our hopes up, but I seriously can't help it right now!

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
All this new info is pointing in the direction that this dub has been released somewhere somehow. But it still feels sketchy since we still have no official announcements that have been made, the voice actors are still being quiet about this. I don't know if they are actually showing this in other countries and still holding off on announcements here in North America because they plan to show it here. It does kinda seem possible that they could show Ocean Kai in another country same as how Asia is making their own English Dub of Dragon Ball Super. For all we know, the Ocean Dub of Kai could of premiered on Toonami Asia right under our noses.Bansho64 wrote:That's a serious good find Quantum!I wouldn't have expected for the Ocean Kai dub to end up like this. Remember everyone to take all this info with a Grain of Salt since the past 6 years we've been hearing that this dub will be released soon by some actors, so this could just be another spark of something.
Also some new info I found from a comment on the Asia English Dub news about Dragon Ball Super. "if it's not Funimation, it wouldn't surprise me if this is an Ocean dub. They've produced a couple of shows predominantly for broadcast in South East Asia."
Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/dbz/comments/3 ... a_will_be/
So maybe Kai Ocean might be somewhere in another country if this comment is true...Again grains of salt

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I truly don't mean to contribute to any sense of crushed dreams if it turns out that this isn't true, but as for the whole, "This hasn't been officially announced" thing...that is a completely valid thing to keep in mind, and not something to be discarded. However...
-From what I understand, the Westwood dub of DBZ (aka the post-Saban Ocean dub) began airing without any sort of formal announcement. UK TV viewers just turned on their TVs one day to randomly find a lot of the old voices back.
-The Sumitomo score for the Buu arc of Kai has only received one official release: it is available for download on iTunes, in the French section only. And it was never advertised or announced, we only found out about it when somebody just randomly stumbled upon it and reported it to Kanzenshuu.
So, a random release, in a random place, without any sort of announcement, is not unprecedented for Dragon Ball.
Man....I'm really, really, really trying not to get my hopes up, but........could this........could this mean that the Great Breaking of the Cycle might truly be near?

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
True that the Westwood dubs were released unannounced so this could mean that the Ocean Dun of Kai could have been released without any sorts of announcements and we all have to remember that Toei has been hitting hard with copyrights on YouTube and other sites so maybe any posts mentioning this dub could of been taken down by Toei or by bots.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I truly don't mean to contribute to any sense of crushed dreams if it turns out that this isn't true, but as for the whole, "This hasn't been officially announced" thing...that is a completely valid thing to keep in mind, and not something to be discarded. The site says it's at:
Tampa Convention Center
333 S. Franklin Street Tampa, Florida 33602
Not bad! Richard Ian Cox said he only goes what he's invited to and mentioned earlier he did have a con appearance but couldn't tell anyone at that time. Strange.

That's about an hour drive away from me, I might be able to go depending if I don't have anything planned and if I have enough for tickets. So I might be able to ask about the Ocean Dub or maybe at least get them to do the voices of their characters so I can hear what I would of been like.

Richard Ian Cox seemed very reluctant to talk about Kai the last time someone mentioned it at a convention panel. He might be more open to talk about it if he's not in front of a big audience but even so, I would be smart about how you ask him to do his Goku voice. If it were me I'd just ask him to say "Kamehameha", "Kaioken" or something else Goku would say, he'll either jokingly play dumb and not know how to pronounce it or indulge you and give you a live sample.Quantum-Kakarrotto wrote:So I might be able to ask about the Ocean Dub or maybe at least get them to do the voices of their characters so I can hear what I would of been like.

I agree with this fact, that's why I might ask him off the record without video recording him and just taping his voice if I can. I just really wanna hear his Goku too see how his interpretation would be like. Those fan videos don't cut it anymore.NitroEX wrote: Richard Ian Cox seemed very reluctant to talk about Kai the last time someone mentioned it at a convention panel.
