I'd so rather buy those than the crap that FUNimation released. Then again, this is DB, not DBZ. So far, FUNimation has dubbed it properly, and released the DVDs properly (unlike DBZ). So *maybe* we will get a better release from FUNi when/if they decide to re release DB in Season Sets.nathantheguitarist wrote:Why wait for a remaster (that will most likely be in widescreen, have bad remastering, and replace Makafushigi Adventure), when you can get these!

And here's a thread with some cool pics on what the boxes look like, and info and such, and links to a cheap region free dvd player.
Will they also remaster the original Dragonball?

I'm thinking I'm going to order these sets from madman and that DVD player. Got a couple of questions tho.
1. Others have actually bought this DVD player and had it play Region 4 releases? The listing on Amazon just states that it plays PAL and NTSC it doesn't say anything about region free. I thought Region Coding was independent of PAL and NTSC settings.
2. Did Steve Simmons do the translations for the Dragon Ball releases?
3. Does anyone know if most CC companies charge a currency conversion rate if we order from other countries?
I hope this DVD player works. There are a lot of over seas releases I'd love to get that aren't available here.

Clyde Mandelin does the DB releases. His work is on other FUNi shows like Basilisk, which is pretty good. Mr. Simmons said that he recommended Clyde for the DB releases. Good stuff.NinjaVash wrote: 2. Did Steve Simmons do the translations for the Dragon Ball releases?
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

He did for the "Tournament Saga", episodes 14-28, as well as DB movies 2 and 3 (Sleeping Princess and Mystical Adventure). However, like Bilis said, Clyde Mandelin is who does the translation for the rest of the series, as well as Madman's first 13 episodes and the 10th anniversary movie. Clyde's done a very good job with the series, being a spiritual twin in translating to Daimao's style (though some may argue over his translation for Hachan's structure), I know I'm very pleased with his hard work.NinjaVash wrote:2. Thanks for the replys! I ordered the First Collection a little while ago. Turns out my current DVD player is actually PAL to NTSC compatible and can be switched to any region I choose.

I can't get you a deal like $20, but animecornerstore.com has all the DB sets for $30, it meets you halfwaymasenko wrote:theoriginalbilis wrote:
BTW, off-topic, but I have only 4 more DB DVD sets to go before I have the whole series: Tournament, Red Ribbon Army, General Blue, and the Saga of Goku R4 set.

Good luck finding a good deal on the Red Ribbon Army set. It's the only set I need to complete the series and I can't find a deal like I did with the others. All of them were purchased for $20 or less. The RRA set at Zstore.com is still like $40...so I bought 39 episodes of DBZ instead.

I just wish there was a bit more consistency between the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z subs with the translation of Mazoku (sp?) to Demon Clan. In Dragon Ball, Clyde stuck with Mazoku, but Steve seemed to opt to translate it.theoriginalbilis wrote:Clyde Mandelin does the DB releases.
