Super Animation Catalogue 2.0
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #45]
Oh I totally forgot about the possibility of getting a new opening next week or some new bits of new animation at least. Excited to see if something does change, who animates it.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #45]
I'm curious what they'll do with the opening, I'm hoping we get a whole new opening (theme and all) in July for year 2 when the new cour starts, but just new animation would be fine, preferably large changes to the whole opening like they did in Z after Trunks showed up instead of just replacing the one bit they did for F and the Champa arc.Sodhi wrote:Oh I totally forgot about the possibility of getting a new opening next week or some new bits of new animation at least. I hope Shida will be recruited for the next opening, at least. Given how the series has next to nobody to draw on I'm cocerned we'll wind up with more of the same boring Yamamuro storyboards and key animation.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #45]
Not sure. This was the response I got:ArchedThunder wrote:Ah, so you can only edit a post so many times? So what are you going to do when episodes come out now?

Doesn't sound permanent. I know they did this before for a while, but it was put back pretty quickly.
I think the aim of the change is to preserve information and prevent trolls. There's been instances of interesting stuff being deleted by OPs, and porn being edited in by trolls.
I know they don't want to stifle threads where the main post can be updated, so I'm sure they'll come up with a solution quickly.

The lack of Shida is a damn shame, but at this point it simply looks like he doesn't want to work on the show.JulieYBM wrote:I hope Shida will be recruited for the next opening, at least. It'd be nice if he could at least storyboard a few more episodes, he hasn't done that since early F.

Again, great work like always Ajay. That chart provides a great way for analyzing how much time was spent on each episode.

Onishi came from WT. WT ended on April 3, so its my guess that he must have jumped on 39 right after his work on WT ended.ArchedThunder wrote:Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but Manabe was listed as a Supervisor on 39.Ajay wrote:That's very true, though I was talking about supervising roles rather than key animation.ArchedThunder wrote:He wasn't working with Oka, but Manabe did work on 39.
Speaking of key animators on #39, my hope is that Yuji Hakamada gets to lead an episode at some point in the future. That'd be a blast from the past.
Also I didn't realize that Onishi was an assistant supervisor on 39 as well, hopefully since he came back as a supervisor so soon after means he won't be going anywhere.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #45]
The batch of episodes from 36 to 46 has been definitely superior in quality to the previous episodes despite the schedule being the exact same of 4 to 5 weeks on an average just like the previous episodes(of course excluding the dragon part from 40 and the sloppy art from 45). Do you guys think addition of the WT staff has been the main reason ? Because WT's final episode aired on April 3 and ep 36 aired on March 27. So probably it was from those episodes onwards, that they were added to the series. I was also thinking about outsourcing but that scene has been the same right, with the exception of Wanpack handling parts of 44 ?!

Wanpack also did some stuff in 38, they're probably going to be used a fair amount I'd saydhaval_dongre wrote:The batch of episodes from 36 to 46 has been definitely superior in quality to the previous episodes despite the schedule being the exact same of 4 to 5 weeks on an average just like the previous episodes(of course excluding the dragon part from 40 and the sloppy art from 45). That will be great. Because they have done key animation for some huge anime projects. Also 44 was an amazing looking episode. Also totaled me wonder why did Toei outsource an episode from a mini arc or rather a less important arc to a reputed Japanese studio than the regular ones, because it must be more expensive comparatively ? If they are willing to spend this much on such a episode, this makes me excited for the important episodes.ArchedThunder wrote:Wanpack also did some stuff in 38, they're probably going to be used a fair amount I'd saydhaval_dongre wrote:The batch of episodes from 36 to 46 has been definitely superior in quality to the previous episodes despite the schedule being the exact same of 4 to 5 weeks on an average just like the previous episodes(of course excluding the dragon part from 40 and the sloppy art from 45). One Piece will have a new opening. 99% sure Shida has been working on that.ArchedThunder wrote: The lack of Shida is a damn shame, but at this point it simply looks like he doesn't want to work on the show.

One Piece Film Gold must also get out the way, but I wonder he didn't already finished his work there.
One Piece got such a beautiful Kaidou entrance, and we got a ugly Super Shenlong summoning. Frustrating.
No, but we still like you. It's okay.Ajay wrote: I'm not doing well this week, am I?
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

If he stopped colour matching the Orange Bricks and toned down the bloom, I'd like his work more.

Yeah, the colours are over-saturated but there's no denying that this looks like the Goku we got in Z. Correct build, pure black hair and the expression.Ajay wrote:If he stopped colour matching the Orange Bricks and toned down the bloom, I'd like his work more.
Is it even possible for Toei to re-do Super in Z's style if they wanted?
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #45]
I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Do you just mean in terms of character designs and colours? If so, they definitely could, but it would require a major staff reshuffle that's sadly never going to happen.HybridSaiyan wrote:Is it even possible for Toei to re-do Super in Z's style if they wanted?
You'd have to replace the character designer and colour designer. Yamamuro hasn't lost that position in forever, and Hotta has been colour designer for everything since Battle of Gods. Unless those two go, you're going to be facing the same super-saturated colours, bubbly designs, and plastic sheen.
I bring this up a lot, but episode 16 really is as close to the older character designs as we've ever gotten. Aside from a few scenes that I presume were done by other key animators, Iseki really did just throw out the character sheets and go with what he felt like. If he were at the helm, the series' art would be a lot like a modern twist on the Cell arc's designs.

How they never brought Iseki back as a regular is beyond me. Having him as 8th man rotation would help the production tremendously.

Well if what we learned from episode 39 means anything the problem is that scripts, storyboards and layouts aren't completed fast enough for animators to go directly from one episode to the next.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:How they never brought Iseki back as a regular is beyond me. Plus Iseki doesn't do a whole lot of animation, he was pretty active in 2013 and 2014, but literally the only thing he's credited on in 2015 is the episode of Dragon Ball Super he did and in 2016 he's only credited on 3 anime episodes so far. I'd love to see him come back but it seems maybe he has some of his own stuff going on in his life. Interestingly the only time he's ever been an animation supervisor was on Dragon Ball Super, so maybe if Toei is trying to grab a lot more supervisors for the show they could offer him the job and he might take it because of the better pay.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #46]
The thing is that iseki is not a regular in Super. He is just like Matsuzaka Sadatoshi, people brought in to give regular staff some breathing room.I dont see Iseki becoming a regular either, looking at his history. Looks like a guy who does animation for fun.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #46]
Regarding the minor shuffling of the staff, wasn't this miniarc supposed to be a part of that. Because lets be honest I think they made this entire miniarc which lasted a month, so that the key animators/supervisors can get some additional time to work on the important episodes, right ?
