Trunks hair color?!!!

Hi, i'm pretty sure this topic has already been debated before, but I can't find the post.
Why is Futur Trunks hair blue in the Dragon Ball Super? I went back to see old Dragon Ball Z screens and he has purple hair, and kid Trunks in Super also has purple hair...

Am I the only one who doesn't really care color scheme consistency? As seen in many color pages and covers in the original manga, Toriyama has a tendency to freely change color schemes according to the balance in each panel/page, which I think is part of the charm of his art. I like the bluish hair in DBZ movie 9 for the same reason, but I've never heard of any complaints about it.

I do care about the colors that are clearly stated in-universe, though.

Vegeta's hair has always bounced between brown and pure black in the anime as well.

Much like others have said, it really does not bother me in the slightest. I'm guessing they either decided to honour Toriyama's mistake/recolour/whatever, or they liked it, and decided it freshened up the character's design. Gotta sell them toys, right?!

There's also a part of me that wonders whether Future Trunks will stick around, and whether our little Trunks might finally grow. Hair colour would certainly help set them apart for audiences. But hey, that's just my wishful thinking. I'm pretty sure growth doesn't exist in Super. Things only sag.

I'm much more revolted by seeing Mai in there. Is it just that the laziness was too strong to create a new female character for Trunks to associate with? You know, maybe give her some character development of her own? Was it really that someone felt that Mai was so well developed already that they can just stick her in there? I mean, she's not well developed at all. She's a henchgirl who has always been a henchgirl, whose motivations are completely unclear because they were never explored, and she got turned little for some inexplicable reason, becoming an 8 (or whatever he was) year old's girlfriend, making her a mental pedophile... and that's her character development. If they dive deep into her character in this arc, then why not just create a new character with a fresh start? It would seem much less creepy. Again, if Mai was one of the few remaining humans and she teamed up with Trunks, then cool. But the fact that she had that thing with Trunks in Battle of Gods is really leaving a sour taste in my mouth. It wasn't funny or clever. It's funny from Trunks's perspective because he doesn't know who she is, but the fact that she actually goes with it is kind of gross. Scratch that, it's not "kind of" gross, it's full on disgusting.

For me, passing judgement on Trunks' hair color would be like passing judgement on... I dunno, the number of paperclips that come in a box. Or the length of the clip on this pen here.

Imagine if one fine day, Vegeta's hair color reverted back to what it was in the first couple of appearances that he had in the anime. People made a big deal about his inconsistent color scheme to the point where Kai changed it and everyone threw babies in the air out of joy. Now, after having so many years put into Trunks, his hair color changes and nobody cares? It's a bit inconsistent from the fans' perspective. People criticize Super Saiyan 4 Goku because he had "pink fur," which isn't even anything more than personal preference because it's not like it was a different color than originally drawn, but people give this a free pass? It's not that I'm about to grab a pitchfork and about to start rioting by Toei's headquarters, I'm more surprised that the fans are so forgiving with Super when they've been unforgiving about these same issues in the past.

I understand that Vegeta's color scheme was weird because it was within the same series; I get that. But isn't Super still considered the same series? It certainly is the same franchise. And it's really strange that kid Trunks still has lavender hair. So with age it turns blue? It's a freaking strange choice.

I don't care too much either, but I can see that's it's very frustrating for fans who appreciate consistency. Then again, this whole thing stems from how Bulma's hair was blue in the first chapter of the manga, but it was purple for the rest of the color chapters she appeared in, so maybe expecting consistency from Dragon Ball might be asking too much.

Not sure if it's here, but I've seen that dropped plenty of times on different forums. A google search on "Super Saiyan 4 pink fur" will pop up some results including a Kanzenshuu post that goes on to say that the colors are ugly. I guess it's a personal preference, but still. No, Trunks's blue hair isn't ugly, but it is inconsistent.


And I obviously didn't literally mean that babies were in the air. Whatever, can't say anything right. Carry on.

It was just hair color... until they started basing transformations in more than one color (gold/yellow, and now blue). Nowadays, hair color is actually significant so inconsistencies in that aren't really meaningless.

Super Saiyan Blue (god I hate this term, right on up there with Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan) also causes their hair to stand. So if it were Trunks with spiky hair standing up with a blue color on it, then I'd say it's easily confused with Super Saiyan Blue (*cringe*). But I wasn't really confused at all by this. Besides, is Super Saiyan Blue (*gag*) going to be the new Super Saiyan where everyone and their mother can turn into it? I think it should be kept among a select few characters and there should be one transformation that's exclusive to Goku (and I don't mean an in-between one like Super Saiyan God that has been surpassed and will never be seen again).

That's why I said earlier that if it's not a color fix, I'm thinking it's a controlled SSB...like a SSB Base form. In Super's intro, near the end, when Goku showcases the Blue form, you can see his hair goes Blue but it doesn't get spiky(I think).
