Because lets be honest I think they made this entire miniarc which lasted a month, so that the key animators/supervisors can get some additional time to work on the important episodes, right ?
I think it's possible that this bit of in between was entirely done so they could improve for the next arc. It also seems like they could have been experimenting with the show a bit too (this is all speculation mind you), I mean we had some interesting things like 44 almost being entirely outsourced, it seems like episode 45 might have been an experiment to see if Kitano could be a relief supervisor and 46 was an action heavy Yashima episode with quite a few animators, they could have also done some stuff with 42 and 43 that was less obvious as well, but I guess it is worth noting that those episodes had a fairly large amount of animators for the kinds of episodes they were. The biggest question is how much time was spent on the scripts and storyboards, if they were done rather quickly then that definitely lends more credence to the idea that these in between episodes exist solely so they could try to improve for the next arc.
Either way the NEP looks incredibly polished and there is a lot of animation going on, so fingers crossed that just like how we saw the quality go up from the F arc to the Champa arc we'll be seeing another bump in quality.
But with this show it's best to not expect something like this, but it doesn't hurt to hope.

Ep 46 had decent animation, it's still miles away from dreadful ep 5 and Base Goku vs Freeza. It was much more enjoyable than 45.

I also think NEP looks like it's from shida, it's very fluid, but we will have to see.

So what are the chances they will fix Trunks' hair in the actual episode?.
There's room for only one snake, and one big boss.

Trunks's hair doesn't appear to be an error.

Man, that new preview has me so excited. New tone aside, I'm looking forward to some polished Tate work. If there were ever an episode that could make great use of ability to draw expressively, it's this one.

We've only had such short previews, yet I feel like I've seen so much already. Super excited to see how the full thing plays out. Really hope he has some good key animators working alongside him.

Also I think its the first time/or after a very long time, that a Supervisor will be having 8 weeks to work on an episode. That mini arc served its purpose I guess.

We really need a well animated episode for the reintroduction of Trunks after the travesty that was Super Shen Long's summoning.

I completely agree. Seeing the end of Episode 46 and this new trailer has really hyped me up. I don't really get the feeling they wasted all the good cuts on the teasers, either, so this is probably going to be great.
I really have high hopes for this new arc now. That'll probably come back to bite me, but for now my expectations have been raised.

I'd also like to point out by that Goku and Vegeta shot that they've changed the color palette, it's not longer over saturated!

The episode looks so good, I really hope this is a big turning point for the series's visuals.

EDIT: So Toriyama starting writing this arc in Autumn and finished it in February, the large jump in quality makes me think that maybe Toei actually got ahead of Super's schedule and started some preproduction of this arc alongside the Champa arc. I'm definitely interested to see who wrote this episode and who did the storyboard, if both are new people (or at least people who haven't done much work on the show recently) that would be a big sign. Maybe King Ryu was made composer during the Champa arc solely to keep that arc's story on track while they had some other writers work on the next arc. I don't know how much more speculation I can take! I can't wait to see the staff, that will tell us so much!

I hope this arc is doesn't have any rushed episodes, I would like a consistent arc (quality not style) from beginning to end. Some nice backgrounds would be appreciated, a destroyed city looks really cool to me, it has the potential to get boring quickly thou.

I made an image showing the new color pallet.

Such minor changes make that new image of Goku and Vegeta look so much better than the older stuff in Super.

The cut with the shadow running is definitely Tate Naoki. It matches what he did for Disk Wars: Avengers Episode #16.

Is there a chance that the colors are like that only for this upcoming episode or is it a definite permanent change?

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

It was from a shot of Goku and Vegeta on Beerus's planet, so these are probably the colors going forward.

It kinda just looks like someone turned up the brightness on them. I feel like they may just be reacting to something bright appearing right in front of them. Could be wrong, but would be odd for the colour designer to change something like that when everything else looks as normal.

Those Trunks shots look amazing without the annoying highlights.
If only there were 2 tones of shadows!!

The shot of Goku on Earth is using the same colors as the shot of him on Beerus's planet. Well the colors are ever so slightly darker, but still way less than older episodes.

Interesting. I guess we'll see, then!

I wouldn't be opposed to some colour changes, that's for sure.

The highlights on the face seem a little less obnoxious.

The color of the highlights and the base color of the skin are a lot closer to eachother now, so that definitely makes the characters look less greasy.

EDIT: Using the colors specifically from the shot of Goku on earth I edited the colors of Goku in a previous episode.
The left is the episode as it aired, the right is the edit using the new colors.

Of course this is just a two tone shading image, but it really shows the difference in colors.
