Hey that shot of Goku holding Pan kinda looks similar to Masunaga's art style. I'd freaking love to see him come back. His style was quite a bit of a departure from Toriyama's but it conveyed some brilliant expressions. Though, I don't think his art style would look the best in the digital age. It looks strictly like something cel animated.

I am confused about something. What is it meant by that this arc has been in production since 4 months?. Like were they working on the episodes already or something else?

Probably just planning, writing, character designs...i mean, the only way they could literally jump ahead and work on two batches of episodes at the same time would be getting a completely new staff for the new arc.
But maybe this explains why Morio Hatano took the director's seat? I don't know..it is possible they had Chioka dedicated to it, the timing would fit.

I think Hatano took over as early as the Golden Freeza arc. He has not boarded or directed since #14. I think he was not credited for the role for so long for the same reason King Ryuu did not get credited as Series Kousei.

If Chioka is not directing a new film maybe he has busy working on the story for this new arc?

The left is the episode as it aired, the right is the edit using the new colors.

Of course this is just a two tone shading image, but it really shows the difference in colors.
Looks like Battle of Gods' colour palette. Match it to when Goku first puts his gi on and I reckon they'll be identical.

We'll Toriyama started writing the Future Trunks arc in Autumn and Kei17 said Toriyama was iffy about staying on the show and they had to pitch the idea for the arc to him so that could line up with that, Toei could have been planning the Future Trunks arc as the arc where the quality would improve to keep Toriyama on board and they were just making the Champa arc as good as they could with what they had, and Hatano and King Ryu were put in charge of their respective parts of the show to keep it on track until the Future Trunks arc was ready.
I've never been so interested in seeing the non-animation staff of an episode, it will tell us so much.

Just did and nope, different colors. In BoG Goku's base skin color is a little more on the white side and shade 2 for it is more desaturated, his gi is also a darker orange. Seems like they decided to just go with a completely new palette for some reason. I wonder if there have been complaints about the colors in Japan as well.

It's kinda crazy just how dark and contrasty the tones were in Resurrection 'F' and Super. No wonder Resurrection 'F' was the first time those highlights truly bothered me. Assuming 47's colours are what we're going with from now on, that's definitely a change for the better.

47's are easily the most natural looking of the 4.

Looks like a lot has changed for the trunks arc. Lets hope the animation gets an upgrade too. #47 is looking awesome so far.

Well, as we've been discussing a lot of things are lining up that would make it seem like this arc may have had some actual preproduction compared to the other arcs, but it could all just be a bunch of coincidences, we just have to wait and see.
Expect the worst and hope for the best, that way if it was all coincidental we won't be too bumbed out by it, but if we do get a higher quality show from this point on we can be pleasantly surprised.

Let's just hope whoever made those late changes during the Champa arc has stopped doing it, since it seems that was the big reason why that didn't reach it's full potential.

It will be interesting to see how the art and animation turns out for this arc. Its looking much better than the previous arcs that's for sure. Just saw Ajay's video on budget in anime and I totally agree. Let's break down #47.

Considering skill, time and workload, one thing's for sure that they had much more amount of time than any previous episode. Its something like 8 weeks I guess. Regarding skill, we have a very good supervisor like Tate on this one, though it will be interesting to see how many animators they have on this one and how skilled they are and who they also outsource it to. Regarding workload that I really cannot guess. But one thing is for sure they have at least time and (probably) skill in their favor.

Also one more important thing, since its #47 it will be interesting to see whether Hit shows up, lol !

Hooray! I loved his work on Episode 39, and I hope he provides more of the same for the Future Trunks arc.

Otsuka Ken probably did the new shots for the Opening again.
We should get new visuals this week.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

He said he's scheduled to work on Super, so I assume that means he hasn't started, so it's probably an episode.

Episode 47

Image

Animation Supervisors
Tate Naoki Ishikawa Osamu

Key Animators
Tate Naoki Hoshino Mamoru Naoi Masahiro Mura Shuntaro Nobuzane Setsuko Ishikawa Osamu Asanuma Akihiro Nagaki Tatsuhiro

2nd Key Animators
Yasuda Youko Yokoyama Miyuki Tu Yeong-chaek

Ooft! Those Tate cuts were awesome. He drew so much of that episode, I cannot believe just how fast he works. So happy. Will WebM those parts as soon as I can.

Seems like the colour changes were just an error with the preview. It all looked the same to me.

Shimanuki up next week, I believe. Couldn't quite get a good read on the style, so don't take my word for it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the new intro animation was very bland, but it was just Hamano and Yamamuro doing some quick drawings. It'll do.

Tate once again delivered the goods for Super. Simply awesome work, especially with the Goku Black reveal.

Tate delivers once again! His cut with Trunks & Black near the end was brief but really nice. Shame about the colors being the same. I can't help but notice that Inaba Jin hasn't done key animation for a few episodes, maybe he's actually going to get more time for the next one he works on?
