Could Toriyama "destroy" Super?

Post by coola » Thu Jun 09, 2016 12:35 pm

I'm not talking about making Toei to stop produce Super, he have no power to do that, but, for example, to say openly that he dislike Super, and how it tarnish his legacy. Such thing happened with Tekken movie, it tanked, because Harada (Tekken producer) said that he doesn't like this movie at all.

Toriyama is the guy who outlines the story though. The most he could do is say he dislikes the way Toei handle his story. He's already done that though and people still watch

Toriyama criticising SUPER won't destroy it, the only thing that will are the merchandise sales and nothing else.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I gotta admit, I initially thought this was saying that Toriyama is at fault for Super's bad quality.

Nah. What Toriyama says ultimately won't change the perception of Super. I mean, there are lot of people who love GT and all Toriyama contributed to that series was some character designs and the logo.

In an open franchise like Dragon Ball, videogames and card games are the real deal. Toriyama's most a character designer (my guess is that Tori wasn't about a new series at all, but the franchise required it).
I learned english listening to songs. So I don't know anything about. The day you had to learn play piano by just listening .mp3, you'll understand.

He could hurt its home video sales.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

All Toriyama has to say to "destroy" this series is say, "it's not canon to my original manga" and announce a real continuation he is currently writing and drawing himself. The ultimate reset button. Super would immediately fade into obscurity once it finishes its run.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Home video sales mean nothing compared to merchandise and toy sales, especially in Japan.

Unless Super releases a hypnotic suggestion that turns everyone who ever watches into a suicide bomber... Nah, not even then. Dragon Ball, for better or for worse, has the kind of mainstream appeal that's pretty much bulletproof against anything at this point.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.
