I'm glad we're finally getting some new eyecatches:
I loved the goofy and exaggerated expressions throughout the episode. It felt very Fullmetal Alchemist-ish:

Is there a new colourist for the show? They seem less of an eye sore now, especially the skin.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Yup, I'm pretty sure the Color Coordinator replaced the one in charge of Color Design and I honestly love the new color palette. I would have loved if it was still using the Yo Son Goku palette but this isn't bad and the characters colors don't look buttfuck ugly with how bright they were. Honestly, the fact that Super is looking so much better in terms of animation makes me want to start watching it again as it seems like the animation is improving along with the story because the Universe 6 arc was just awful and this is much better.ekrolo2 wrote:Is there a new colourist for the show? Probably a nitpick, but I don't like that is the same eyecatch two times in the same episode, but whatever lolSuper Saiyan Swagger wrote:I'm glad we're finally getting some new eyecatches

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #48]
I noticed something with this week animation, regarding Super Saiyan transformation, so far (unless my memory is terribly wrong) the way DBSuper has been handling the Super Saiyan transformation the following way:
Now looking Future Trunks transformation sequence:

This sequence has some interesting (to me) camework, that accomplishes making the transition of normal state to SS1 less jarring by hiding the lack of animation and giving the feeling that there´s animation (I don´t know if this sentence makes sense but it does to me in some strange way). Moreover, the camework makes it look much better than some generic instatnt transformation sequence.
- short sequence that frames characters standing still while powering up (for a few second or at tines for more than 10 seconds).
- They display aura for several seconds while the powering up happens.
- During the powering up the hair might be given some (veeeeery) light move animation to the hair (sometimes not) while still being framed standing still.
- Followe by the next inmediate frame having them in their transformed stated.
- The result being a bit jarring transformation sequence.

That "animation" gif has no animation outside of the digital coloring and aura. The 1st shot itself is a still image that they zoom on, the 2nd is also a still that they manipulate the visible frame in order to give the Appearence of motion. Think shaky cam.Neo-Makaiōshin wrote:I noticed something with this week animation, regarding Super Saiyan transformation, so far (unless my memory is terribly wrong) the way DBSuper has been handling the Super Saiyan transformation the following way:Or sometimes all the above happens but in just a 1 or 2 seconds cut.

I know, I was just being specific about what is actually happening from a production standpoint. The fact that you have 2 still frames to represent 5 seconds of animation is kinda of low budget especially when you average about 24 frames per second for most animation. Having those still images alone probably saved them from animating like 100 frames. Pretty funny to me in terms of masking and the time/cost savings they got

Not true, if you frame by frame it most of the frames are unique with only a tiny bit of digital zooming, the shaky cam bit at the end isn't animated though.TheMikado wrote:

24 frames per second isn't really the average for TV anime, much of the time is it much lower, around 12 frames or less.TheMikado wrote:I know, I was just being specific about what is actually happening from a production standpoint. The fight was phenomenal by Super standards. The Masenko part is my favorite sequence from the episode, and maybe from the whole series so far.
You can actually feel the weight of the move, something that Super has been lacking.
And besides that, there were a lot of amazing shots and scenes, with proper usage of camera angles and an overall nice atmosphere.

Agreed.
I think that fight will be my go-to for examples of really solid conservative animation.
There's nothing in there that's particularly exceptional, but just like the unexceptional work that made up the large majority of Dragon Ball Z, it feels a thousand times better than it is due to a combination of nice art and solid layouts.
You are absolutely right that it feels weighty as a result. It's does what episode 39 didn't do, and that's be conservative while also looking good and/or interesting.

It's crazy, in general after the tournament was over the action has gotten pretty good, Goku VS Beerus in the Monaka costume was surprisingly solid, Goten and Trunks VS Grill's goons was good as was Vegeta VS the Copy Goons and Goku VS Copy Vegeta was also pretty good, especially for Yashima. I'm super excited to see what our first "important" fight will look like.Ajay wrote:Agreed.

It's kinda funny that he took your tiny avatar instead of just grabbing a larger GIF from the album I posted at the top of the page.ryou766 wrote:@Neo-Makaiōshin Couldn't help but notice you grabbed my personal made avatar. No worries, though. lol

Nah, you're right. We've gone from barely being able to string a passable fight together to finally getting decent enough stuff.
I get the feeling the next episode will end just as Black turns up, leaving Karasawa to handle the first major confrontation in the episode after.

I get the feeling that we might get a Onishi/Matsuzaka episode before the next Karasawa episode, but we'll just have to see, it's hard to say since the rotation is getting shuffled a lot now. I also wonder when we'll see Toma again, I'm kinda thinking he might be working with Karasawa next.Ajay wrote:SUPER excited, huh?ArchedThunder wrote:It's crazy, in general after the tournament was over the action has gotten pretty good, Goku VS Beerus in the Monaka costume was surprisingly solid, Goten and Trunks VS Grill's goons was good as was Vegeta VS the Copy Goons and Goku VS Copy Vegeta was also pretty good, especially for Yashima.
