Calling all people with Funi Dragon Boxes -- Need your help!

Post by thejeremymenace » Sun Jun 19, 2016 9:06 pm

Hey sports fans, I'm currently developing Dragon Radar, a program that will sync R1 Dragon Ball subs & audio with R2 video. I want to support the Funi DBoxZ DVDs in my program, but I don't have the sets anymore, and I need some info about the discs!

Here's how you can help:
1. Download PGCDemux (either version) here: http://www.videohelp.com/software/PgcDemux

2. Put the DBox disc in your PC's DVD drive

3. Open PGCDemux and click 'Browse' as shown:
Image

4. Navigate to your DVD drive, open the VIDEO_TS folder, and select the .IFO file with the largest filesize, as shown:
Image

5. Take down four pieces of information:
  • Which box and disc you are examining
  • The .IFO you selected above
  • With the "by PGC" radio button selected, the number of the longest PGC in the dropdown box -- in this screenshot, it's PGC #01
    Image
  • With the "by VOB id" radio button selected, the numbers of the longest VIDs in the dropdown box -- in this screenshot, it's VIDs 9 through 15 (there is one for each episode on the disc)
    Image
And that's it! Please let me know if you want to volunteer to give information on a specific box or disc.

Dragon Box 1: <none>
Dragon Box 2: <none>
Dragon Box 3: <none>
Dragon Box 4: <none>
Dragon Box 5: Already taken care of!
Dragon Box 6: <none>
Dragon Box 7: <none>

The first couple boxes are a little weirdly authored, so please let me know if you are confused at any point. Thanks for your help!

I've got all 7 of them and could help out. I can start with disc 1 hopefully today unless someone is already doing that one.

Nope, no volunteers yet. I can't edit my post so it doesn't look like I'll be able to update it as it goes, unfortunately.

I'd like to volunteer for all of box 1, as I did buy it from you just a few days ago

Box 2 Disc 8 has 3 large ifo files with the exact same file size. Which one do I use? When I sort by file size vts08 shows on the top of the list.

For discs that have multiple IFOs with the same size, just select the first one numerically in the list.

There probably isn't a way, but is it possible to work the Blu-Ray season sets into this? I heard they have the best Japanese audio quality

Raw quality of the Dragon Box audio is better than the season sets and FUNi's EQ isn't anything you couldn't replicate in your audio drivers/video player. The only difference you'd be losing out on would be their noise removal, but it was never that big of a deal in the first place.

I started syncing it up myself maybe two years ago now and stopped when I realised how little difference there really was when played side by side.

The only thing I would consider sourcing from the Blu-rays is the new English w/ original score track, since from what I've heard of it, the music seems a bit higher in the mix than on the OBs or Dragon Box.

The issues with that are...
  • I don't have those discs, so I can't collect any info about them
  • It would be another 291 files to sync alongside the JP box  & I haven't even finished syncing the OBs yet
  • Blu-ray demuxing isn't planned to be implemented BUT it would be simple to add if each episode on the BD is its own .m2ts file
  • IF I added BD demuxing, I'm basically asking people to copy 36 discs with anywhere from 25 to 50 GB of data each to their hard drives (ouch)
  • Lossless audio would increase the filesize for each episode substantially
To me, it doesn't seem worth it just for that audio track.

That said, I would gladly welcome contributions if anyone has the discs and wants to index the files on the disc and sync them with the DBox!

Oh. I heard somewhere that the audio on the Blu-Rays was given by kei17, so I thought it would be a lot better

Dunno where you heard that, but it's not true. Kei's audio isn't on any release.

Lapse of judgment on my part, since I haven't looked at the early Dragon Boxes in a while, but --
Re: the relevant .IFOs, you should be looking at the .IFO with the most .VOB files associated with it. So, for example, VTS_11_0.IFO with a bunch of VTS_11_X.VOB along with it

Usually you can tell just by the size of the IFO but in this case there are multiple. Sorry for any confusion!
